In this Wo Long Fallen Dynasty review, we'll be looking at what the game is about, what kind of graphics you can expect, and whether or not it's worth your time and money.
Before we get started, I want to mention a few things. First of all, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is not for everyone. Its a Dark Souls action game with. Secondly, the game does have some technical issues.

Thanks for the review, I kept my hopes in check for this one and I'm glad I did. I don't have game pass so I'll definitely be waiting on a deep sale. I've heard it's only 30 hours long which is surprising to me. That ui looks terrible and I'm also surprised about the difficulty, It definitely looks like they took 2 steps forward and 3 steps back when comparing it to nioh. Keep up the good work ACG. 👍

You are one of the few reviewers I trust and have been 98% accurate as to what I enjoy, thank you so much for your hard work and putting these reviews together, you saved me money and disappointment and have also introduced me to games I would have overlooked, so thank you very very much!
I would not base a whole purchase on a single person opinion, this is his personal opinion and you could feel differently if you play the game, watching reviews is important of course, but i would consider try the demo, the game looks like hella fun and the bad things that the reviewer points out you maybe wouldn't even noticed them. Not every game has to be a masterpiece to be a good game.
...I don't know if we can say the voice acting is bad, if you only listened to it in English? I mean...this is a Chinese inspired game, it's default language is Chinese when you first play it. I would even take a guess, the Japanese voice acting would be much better, because it is made by a Japanese company. I like your videos Karek, but don't you think this is a bit of a strange thing to nitpick? we don't expect western games like assassins creed to have stellar Chinese voices. Why should we expect Wo long to have good english voice acting? (Honest question)
This game seems too noisy and busy. Too many fast action scenes, stats, and particle effects.
"The voice acting is great if you think the height of voice acting was ThunderCats and heavy breathing." This line cracked me up!

Not so sure about the easy souls game part. Game seems difficult enough for me. I find elden ring to be more approachable. I see small windows for dodge and perfect parry vs elden ring or bloodborne. Maybe I just live in backwards land idk
I feel like the caveat to this being an “easier” Soulslike is going to be how well that you can use the parry mechanic. If you’re good at identifying the timing and rhythm of enemy combos, you can trivialize a lot of the content. If you can’t? Hope that you bought controller insurance.
That's kind of why I don't want to get this game. If it's anything like sekiro, it becomes a boring joke when you become literally untouchable.

The first demo was really good imo and convinced me to try it even if the second demo wasn't so good
They somehow made the Nioh 2 menu UI even more convoluted with stats and those chart colors look awful
I had no trouble with Nioh 2 but yeah...this is sadly a backstep

After playing the demo, I had a really fun time (I suffered performance issues on my 3070 that vanished after I capped to 60). I understand ACG's review on the game and am worried about the longevity of it especially since people complained that the stance system is gone. However, I'm also the guy that played both Nioh games for the setting and aesthetic and as someone who grew up playing Dynasty Warriros, the Three Kingdoms setting + souls-like formula is something that really interests me. I had no problem with the voice acting since I can just read english and listen to either Chinese or Japanese. I'm quite excited.
Yeah the demo had performance issues like a 60 fps cap but the frametimes were quite bad with constant dips and I have a higher end build. The release version has 120 fps cap and while not perfect as far as frametimes go it's way better and quite enjoyable. I'm liking it.

I share your sentiments. The ancient Chinese theme is a favorite of mine, the Han dynasty most of all! Souls games look amazing, but I never had the skill for them. Having an easier version like this is just what I need as an introduction for the genre.

Something. I mean compared to nioh 2 be a masterpiece and stranger of paradise being a flop of a game. Well needless to say this a stranger of paradise reskin. End game is the most boring of their games. Here go try and get some 5* gear but it's so rare that you can't even make a set with it. Thanks? I guess. Break into ng+ in nioh 2, you get new enemies to fight and better loot. Nope not here. I mean there's like 6 enemy types. Trying to get a critical blow with multiple enemies.. Oh yeah good luck there. Hard enough to switch to the target let alone you take a hit and makes it so you can't get the blow
Team Ninja’s boring level design makes me worried for their open world game (“shadow of the Ronin” or wtvr it’s called)

I don’t remember them ever being really good at level design. The most impressed I’ve been in regard to this is Ninja Gaiden 2. The futuristic city blew kid me away but they’ve never really been good at level design.
The only downside you mentioned that bothers me is unpredictable miss input. Everything else, like morale , Nioh-like complex system, etc. are actually plus to me. Having feeling that I’m really going to enjoy this one 😮
"miss input"... I felt when playing the Demo so many times that I hit the Parry button, but still got hit nonetheless. I thought the timing must be very tight and thought that difficulty of pressing the button in such a tiny time window is way to hard for me. So I guess it might be that miss input, didn't happen allot but it did happen.
@@Momoka7 Same thing for me. Sometimes the parry just did not initiate despite clearly pressing it. Whether against normal or red special attacks.
I found that the more offensive you are in the first area the easier it is. Rushing in like an idiot rewards you
miss inputs are a huge no go, until they fix that is a no here :/

I think the only downside you mentioned that bothers me is failed inputs. I had that happen in the demo pretty often for healing and its pretty annoying. Hope they can address that quickly.

No idea what's going on but between this and Stranger of Paradise it really seems like this team is taking multiple steps back. I can't believe how poorly these games run when they don't even look like they would come close to stressing last gen systems.
Yeah.. It’s a bit odd right? I think they have been siphoning more team members for rise of ronin as they game is now in its last year of development.
Nioh 2 has a damn 120fps mode lol no idea why these run so bad.
@@morriganrenfield8240 now if ya play with it more focused to frame rate that choice smooths game while other legit makes it so that the story is focused so playing with the priorities for frame rate seems to fix the issue for me I was having huge trouble with the story prioritized and the first boss legit is a skill check but he is a skill check to make sure you know how to use block and deflect
I'm a straight up sucker for hack n slash games. This game and Space Marine 2 are at the top of my list for 2023 definitely picking up.
looks so bad. gaming is done i think. no more good games are being released. only copy pasta's with different skins...
But a lot of games have been copy and pasted that turn out good. you just aren't trying.

Hey I really liked your Atomic Heart review. I almost didn't get the game because of another reviewer I like who didn't recommend it, but you did so I got it.
Afterwards I noticed that you where playing the game as an immersive sim using all its systems while the other reviewer was trying to play it like a Doom game.
I dont know why I posted that here, but I'm just saying I respect your reviews more than anyone else.
He does go in depth and usually plays the games as Intended and why he usually avoids the frustrations of rush through the game bros to get reviews out.
Man. I'm really looking forward to this game, but I do not like that HUD or UI at all
I have so much fun with this one. The deflect mechanic is something to get used to and focus on and i got used to it after dying multiple times during the first few hours lmao
I like the style of this game, but some of the pitfalls that you mentioned are making me a bit doubtful. Especially when it comes to the repetition. Gamepass helps in this regard. At least I'll give it a try eventually.
After beating the demo I placed my order on Steam, despite the stutters (which were dreadful) I had fun with it and the South African pricing was quite fair. The day after I pre-ordered the base price increased to over the previous Deluxe Edition pricing, and the base price is more in line with Elden Ring, which I think is a major misstep given the issues (and support saying "we can't promise that we'll fix these issues")
I did have an issue with voice volume, whether stereo or surround, at the start of the demo blindfold guy was yapping away and I couldn't here anything he said and of course in battle not bothering to keep up with the subtitles, something is not quite right with the voice volume during gameplay for me.

@@trippyChief I think there is a path in the other direction that leads to more enmies and then a first boss, thast where im up to now but im playing what i assume is the full game througgh game pass right now. That tiger thing is wayyy too hard but i get whyt ehy had it there to mess with you.
@@trippyChief so the tiger thing in the demo my suggestion would be to level up and get a spell or two, the npc guy distracts it quite a lot. Also if you're close it'll try it's combo which is a bit intense to dodge, further away it'll try lunge which is also slightly dangerous but perhaps slightly easier to parry
Honestly kind of disappointed with this one. Got it on PC with Game pass but it just lacked... oomf? The novelty wears off quickly... And it just didn't do anything really.... dunno just didn't have the magic? Plowed the first couple of bosses and just put it down. The performance was also so abysmal on a 2400$ PC that I ended up playing it on the Series S... and man the Series S makes this game that doesn't look all that great to begin with look like a ps3 title...
Dang. Havent played nioh2 for a while. Booted it up and forgot how to play a bit.. This is an easier version of that.. Maybe not as crazy w the speed and dps. But boy oh boy..jiggle physics 😚👌

It's kinda crazy. The character creator is next level compared to the game's general presentation.

It's because this character creator is reused in multiple games. Dynasty Warriors, Wild Hearts, Nioh, this. They all use the same one.

Played the demo and I was so bored and brought back to the horrid level design, lackluster enemies and atrocious UI and loot mechanics of both Nioh games. I'll be saying no thanks to this one especially after hearing that all of my concerns from the demo continue into the full game. That healing thing was a problem in both Nioh games as well.
personaly, i had much more fun and better feeling from combat in 30 minutes of demo than in entirety of sekiro

Just finished the demo and had a lot of fun plus this game got me interested in the three kingdoms era. Already pre ordered this and might give sekiro another shot
They did want you to rely on blocking they wanted to maintain the elegance of Chinese martial arts. Deflection is a good deal apart of that.
Awesome review as always. I’m a massive fan of Nioh, and when I played the demo I fell in love. Honestly, just give me a decent story with some familiar but a teeny bit different gameplay that works, and I’m in. I’ll be playing this for a long while.

I am so sad to see the state of the game on PC. I’m playing via Xbox game pass on PC and there is just a tremendous amount of issues. Another shitty port to PC. I guess I’ll check this out three or four months if I don’t forget about it by then.

Well i tried it via gamepass i dont think i have the mental capacity for ”git gud” games at the moment i died like 15 times to the first demonic enemy, seems kinda cool but i’m a bit tired of these brutally difficult games right now

This is such a bummer to hear. I like nioh for the first 40 hours i put into it but I stopped playing and couldnt get back into it. The menus and systems are all so convoluted.

Feel like this game will be good and worth a play through but I don’t think this will be anywhere near as deep as nioh or anywhere near as complete a game I loved the atmosphere in nioh games hopefully they add some depth to the combat in dlc
It's for sure dumbed down like no ki pulse and weapon stances but it's still fun

@@malazan6004 yeah this game was just far from what I would expect from some of my favorite developers very disappointed in this game it’s fun first play through but after that it starts to get boring because there is nothing to do it’s like nioh just dumbed down by far in every way

I've been playing the recent demo quite a lot. I'm a huge fan of Nioh and this feels like a dessert to the Nioh 1/2 main course - like a warm, familiar place but with enough variance and novelty to keep me interested. I'll definitely get it somewhere down the line.
Really a demo feels like a dessert? No way... I like ACG but he tends to only briefly play games, not based on New game +. Nioh 2 was also super easy until you unlocked the hardest modes.
Your description allowed me to skip the game entirely.

Just know the first boss is absolutely fucking insanely challenging. After that boss 2/3 were cake. I think it's why I enjoyed the demo so much. I felt such so accomplished after that first boss lol.

@@angelodewit2197 Above minimum reqs. Steam was full with people with PC's mid to high that had the same issue.
You're not gonna tell me that this game won't run on my PC when I run Hogwarts at 45fps on medium settings (it has higher reqs than this game) and Nioh 1&2 ran at 60fps. (i5 2500k OC'ed at 4Ghz, 980, 16gb ram is what I got).

Normally I jump on Souls-likes like they're grenades and I'm honorably saving my comrades from a certain, explodey death, but I think I'm gonna wait on this one. Not that it doesn't look awesome. I'm sure I would love it, but there are just too many games to play and I have so little time. Gotta make cuts somewhere.
This is one of those times that I think game pass comes in clutch. Because there’s no way I would spend full price on this title but I also don’t wanna play it two years down the road.

Looks good, but honestly, I would've been happier if they dropped Nioh 3 instead
Easier than any others? I found first boss in demo harder than in many other games, especially Nioh.
I felt that in the beta. Nioh you can just dodge your way out of just about everything but Wo seems to force you to use the dreadful block.
@@chickmagnetwampaone I don't even use the block. for the latest demo, I felt the game just want you to dodge and parry. Blocking never came to mind after that.

This game sounds complicated. There's no reason for all these things in an action game.
I’m just not seeing anything in this game that makes it a day one but. Or a buy at all. It’s not Sekiro. It’s not as vast as Elden Ring. It’s buggy. And I’ve seen it all before. It’s a pass for me. Never been a fan of the Nioh series anyway. Looks great though. I’ll wait for Black Myth.

Problem is as a souls fan I can no longer play other games...This is a downgrade from Nioh 2 and a lazy attempt. But it's fun..
yes big downgrade,no stamina,no stances,no weapon masterys...

If I didn't have gamepass, I'd definitely buy this game. Really enjoyed the demo.
Hated the demo personally (convinced me not to waste my time with it), but to each their own.

@john h This is classic passive aggressive, please stop. Nothing wrong with not liking a game. I also played the demo. I feel like wo long is too counter/parry focus where you have to parry most attacks for the stagger bar, and I am more of a dodging guy.
Well.. I was hopeful for this game.. wanted nioh 3 not baby first nioh

Strange. The first review I found really emphasized how much the game pushes you to use the Parry over the Dodge.
i think by the dodge he means the parry, since they are both on the same button
One of my only issues with this game was that dodging felt largely useless since you can block or parry any attack in the game as it is. But it’s fun and that’s what matters to me.

Played through the demo three times now, I've had zero technical issues on PS5
I've played through the demo twice on Series X and had zero crashes or performance issues
Played through on Series X.
Only thing I encountered, were slight framerste/stability dips here and there…

As a huge Nioh Fan this is sadly a backstep. But I'll buy it of course because I love Team Ninja and want to support this studio.
It's still a good time it's certainly not average or bad imo
@@malazan6004 I agree it's still Team Ninja therefore the combat is excellent! However Nioh 2 is an absolute masterpiece still.
I didn´t think their games couldn´t get even more complicated and obtuse than Nioh. Don´t care much for the chinese theme and the story so I´ll sit this one out and replay Nioh 2 instead.

Damn, the heal button not working consistently was my biggest gripe with the demo. I think I'll wait for a couple of patches before buying.
i did play the final demo 4times ... i didnt experience this problem not one time ... (PS5) ...
They fixed it in the second demo, it was bad in the first demo but I’ve beat the second demo twice now and didn’t notice any issue with healing…..edit:well I didn’t notice it in the second demo.

I’m currently dealing with a MASSIVE issue with this game, making it unplayable, got it for PS5 a day early and have been playing it through today. The deflect and dodge share the same button and for the first 4 hours there were no issues.
However, now every time I press ‘O’ it only dodges so I’ve had to fight a few bosses without having the option to deflect. Incredibly frustrating. What’s MORE annoying is that I moved back into the tutorial section to see if it was something I was doing wrong but now I can’t leave the tutorial without completing it. It asks me to deflect and my character just won’t do it. I’ve tried adjusting the controls but ‘Dodge / Deflect’ share the same binding no matter where you move it to.
This game has been so fun to playthrough I’m just so frustrated with this issue. Praying for a quick patch fix.
I might be mistaken but from my time with the demo it seems that your equip load determines if you can deflect or not. I was stuck with only rolling too and noticed my equip load was red. After equipping lighter equipment I could deflect again. I guess it works with only green/yellow equip load?
