  • Drums are the foundation that all heavy metal, speed metal and extreme metal is built on, so getting natural sounding drums is very important. In this video from the Cubase Collective, Mendel Bij De Leij looks at programming drums, creating different types of classic metal beats and using the Logical Editor and macros in Cubase for humanizing drums. Metal drums production is a unique art, which this video will help you to perfect.

    • @assshakerstudios549

Do you have a di track along with your other guitar tracks recorded? Because editing heavily distorted tracks is a pain in the ass without having a di track to reference! I always record a di track for this purpose(and of course possible reamping, or plugin reamping later), as when you look at the wav tracks of recorded heavily distorted guitars it's all compressed looking in wavform, making very hard to edit transients, etc. So you use the di track as the reference, and group the tracks via the di at the top usually. Then edit using the di as your visual cue point, so when you edit on the di, everything else is edited as well on your distorted tracks. It's way easier to edit this way, and everyone I've ever worked with does it this way as well! If you don't have a di track(the di being a clean non processed track, just clean guitar straight into di then interface/preamp, but no compression or anything else but a preamp, for those that don't know) well your fucked then and editing will be very difficult. Might wanna retrack it tbh! Also don't move everything to the grid!!!!!!!!! After you fix phase issues(I'm assuming you know how to do that?)only adjust things that are off by over 70ms or more. Everyone's got their own little number or range per say, and it's really hard to define it without actually looking at it so don't take my numbers as rule, it's not even close, just a generalization meaning, if it's not really noticeable, don't touch it! All of the best albums in the world, none of them where on the grid! So if it ain't broke don't fix it basically!

@@kaspaking I figured it out. For me in cubase 10, when you select a drum bar, like one you just made or one that had drums. The panel pops up on the bottom and it shows you a small view of your drum keys. On the bottom of that there a tab it says piano keys o believe but there's a drop-down arrow, click that, select drum map, and boom. There ya go. But you have to do it every time you close that lower dialogue box.
