Huge Congrats Scott on releasing your new course. All of your courses are super great and super knowledgeable ! Can’t wait to take this one! And Huge Thanks to Warren for promoting such a great talents! You Guys Rock! 😀👍🔥🔥🔥
for 32nd note double kick i found 90-110 range sounds at the very least, realistic. and when it comes to single strokes (that means traditional blasts) no more than 90 on cymbals while 80 on snare is the best way to go (that also depends on whether the library splits between rimshots and center hits, too). also for dominant hand it's always 8-16 velocities higher than the other hand. at least that's how i approach metal drum programming anyway!
Very much depends on the tempo! If it's very mid-paced like at 120bpm, it's quite realistic to play loudly since it's so slow. But the faster it goes, the lower the velocities have to come down, so you make good points!
I'm no a metal guy but I watched the whole thing. Very Nice. If I tried to play that on drums there would be a lot of sticks hitting mics and rims. So, need some samples of the mic getting hit by a stick to make it sound like it came out of my shop.
I wish my neural transmissions worked like I want them to for drumming. I love listening to people in control of theirs. Maybe I could use something like this to practice narrowing my spark plug gaps in less hours than usual on any day. Meanwhile I need to check on a few drummers in my instagram feed I have missed for almost a year now. It's an ongoing puzzle of how to grab time metaphorically and physically. 🙂
Wow this was really great, I don't use Reaper but Logic and I'm still new to programming drums. I'd love to include more of a metal soud into my music, so this was perfect for me.
Was exceptionally busy putting MDPM together, took a metric ton of work... but now I'll finally be able to do something else. We did get the vocals for the track, though, so we can finish that ;)

MY surprise! it's like i just made plans to get stoned during break and not make it back for lab after lecture lol that's to say ima pull an all-nighter. I'm really interested in this course. Drums and percussion are definitely the area where my musical knowledge is weakest. I'm not looking to programme metal drums per se, but was interested to know whether this course would help with other styles of music?
@@samuelellringmann3424 It always makes me think, "Am I watching a video about drum programming or am I just overhearing every conversation that ever happened at a rave? We may never know."
Just curious, for the people bagging on the fact the drums are programmed, how do you feel about using an e-kit and playing through a sampler? Still blasphemy? Or better?
Hey comments. Anybody wanna connect and make a metal song? I can do vocals/screams like Corey Taylor obviously not as good. I’m an edm/hip hop/trap/dubstep producer mostly but I wanna make a metal song so gawd Dan bad but I can’t play any instruments to make a good instrumental
I do this on my solo stuff because I don't have access to any drummers with time and inclination to play on my stuff, lol, BUT I would trade programmed drums for a real human player any day of the week. Its just... programmed. And all the humanisation and velocity edits cannot change that. Its soulless, gridded and lifeless and more to the point passionless.
I'm also a drummer, and many guitarists need to understand how we play drums so that when they come up with musical ideas and then transition to find a drummer to play the parts, they are realistic and complete, which can give us drummers a much better idea of what they're looking for.
@@ChernobylAudio666 i just do generic beats and fills and let my drummer write his own parts based on the feel i prototyped. that seems to communicate the ideas clearly enough.
Nobody is getting rid of the Drummer Billy, this is for people who done;t have a drummer, working from home studios, who don't have access to a rehearsal room, maybe even still live at home with their parents or in a studio apartment or just want to create great demos, again without access to a live drummer.

If you can do that all why do you need any band at all. Just create the "music" you want, whether this sounds like the real thing is debatable. I am starting to wonder if audiophiles know they are listening to a computer as opposed to real music. What I can say it has absolutely no character at all. It is just a bunch of noise with no real dynamics at all. If you think about it I spent over $200K on a reproduction system for the enjoyment of music. Maybe I should have bought a mixing desk and a PC and a set of headphones and make "music"and sound like I think it should. Do I make sense? I am of the opinion just kill Phil Collins and make any drum solo you want. Poison every guitarist or better still kill all musicians, they are not needed at all any more. I am sorry, but my interest in hi-fidelity is fading at a rapid rate because I don't know or recognize what I am listening to any more.
Hello Nico, firstly this is Modern Metal Music, nothing 'audiophile' about it. This video is for people who don't have a drummer, working from home studios, who don't have access to a rehearsal room or a live room with loads of mics, maybe they still live at home with their parents or in a studio apartment or just want to create great demos, again without access to a live drummer. The kind of music you want is heavily represented in other videos on Warren's channel, what I love about his channel is he's not a snob, he brings people together. Maybe check out some of he videos involving Strings, Brass sections and tons of other videos Warren does, rather than find something you hate to comment on? Wouldn't that make more sense?
@@klauth_Yksyn you identify with audiophiles? Don't understand why someone would want to programme their drums who doesn't have the access and money to pay someone like yourself to track them? There are MANY genres other than Modern Metal, (you should know that if you're a professional drummer) that use live drums.
You mean the Master of Puppets album by Metallica? The one where Rasmussen had everyone detune slightly and play to a slowed tape, and then he sped everything back up again? It doesn't matter how it's done, only the final result matters. If it sounds good, it's music my friend. :)
@@ChernobylAudio666 Yeah Rasmussen did do that. I think todays possibilities are great. We're able to create complete songs, even if you don't have a drummer. Furthermore, I'm just assuming that this is just a small part of the complete picture and that you would bring in some dynamics tricks in order to make it sound more organic. Anyway, for people who are starting out, I think it's a great lesson. I do prefer real drums but, as said, that's not a possibility for many people. Keep up the good work Scott!
@@ChernobylAudio666 says a guy that was how old, when that song was cut? Too many pro tools jocky's...posing as pseudo "Engineers"...driving metal into a fake realm.
Back in the day, I was working in a recording studio on a big label record. One day the money guy came in to see how the sessions were going. Big LA exec. We were sitting on the couch in the lounge and the video for a new Metallica song from the black album came on MTV. He asked me what I thought about it. I loved the "real" Metallica and hated that album and their short haircuts and I told him I thought it sucked and they sold out. What he said was, "well I like it, and some other people seem to like it too". Whoever that guy was, he taught me something about my opinions that day. Funny thing is, I like that album now. (Baterry is way better tho, imho ;)
