Dave's appeal is not only his story telling ability, but how he made it coming from relative poverty on the road during the early days. He wears it like a badge of pride as he should do because it's him that made it on his own along with his bandmates. The carmaderie early on is what saw them through. I only recently discovered how awful Eddie and Alex had it growing up emigrating from Holland to the US. His mother apparently was horribly treated as an Indonesian domestic worker back in the 50s at the height of Dutch colonialism in Africa. RIP Ed.
Thanks Dave. I appreciate the literal lifetime of entertainment and music and songs to go with the days in our lives and in mine from back when I was a teenager. Shit, 12 really when you guys hit the scene Nationwide, hell, worldwide and dude you still are same old Dave. man and thank you
I met Dave outside of the old Mothership station WMMS in Cleveland, he stopped there to do the show "Westwood One" and was as good in person as you hear him now. You and VAN HALEN were the soundtrack of my high school and continue to be in my 50's. Love live the Mighty Van Halen!
Thank you so much for these stories. Pure gold! Diamond David Lee ROTH is to rock & roll what Frank SINATRA is to crooners singing big band jazz standards. Diamond DLR is one of the most intelligent lyricists of my generation, and one of the most fun and entertaining live performers in rock history. Diamond DLR and King Edward VAN HALEN were one of the most talented songwriting partnerships in rock history. VAN HALEN concerts were a PARTY with Diamond DLR as master of ceremonies.
Mr. Roth, I don't know if you read the comments, but I want you to know, what a Major Musical and Life Influence you are to me. A "moment in time" with you, is on my "Bucket List"! I hope my dream comes through! Thanks, Mr. Roth, for EVERYTHING! Sincerely,. Jeff
Your stories of the past bring back memories and feelings of the 1970 era when things were less formal and more fun (in my opinion). You definitely have a gift for story telling. We are all waiting to hear more! ❤️ 👏
Mr David Lee Roth just the fact that possibly could read this with your own eyes is overwhelming for me you've always been one of the top performers I've ever seen in person I saw your great performance 1985 in St Louis at the checkerdome.. you're one of a kind awesome!!!!
So nice Dave! And your song is stuck in my head now, in a good way! The sign of a good one! Love you so much, thank you for making my life a better place to be since 1978
Such a fascinating guy. The best frontman in history with the most influential guitarist in history - lightning in a bottle. Never change Dave, please never change😎😊❤️
This is pretty awesome I never thought 20 years ago I'll be sitting around listening to David Lee Roth tell stories about early Van Halen please continue and start from the very beginning...lol
These stories are great! Our little rock group had a few similarities like these; Back in the day, those hungry, 'golden years' were essential to being creative. Thanks Dave :)
@@warriorv9359 yeah any year between 78-84 with Roth would be awesome. The club days had to be a blast. Yes grateful I saw eddie twice on their 07 tour when they got back together. It was pretty cool. Me and my pops had a good time. I regret not seeing them on the last one they did. The year you went. They played more deeper cuts. EVH for life baby!
So great to hear your voice and stories Dave! Noel called me a couple of months before he passed. How lucky was I to speak with him even though no human is perfect. He sure had fun with you guys! Love and Peace! ❤🖤🤍
heck, i think i heard this, way-back-when, or is this another mandela effect, or another potential lo rez sun-set? awesome, man~~~~~ [sorry: lost my exclamation pointer in a key-boarding-accident~]
It's rare to have a comment section on any channel. Just saying... Love ya Dave. Always. United for love of Dave, VH, time. I know nobody here, but I bet if we met in the 80's we would be friends. Love ya all. Love Wolfies Mammoth. God bless you all.
Dave could talk about dirt and make it interesting. I don’t understand Dave hater’s…so what he is out there. Great job on talking about life. Some people just see how he sees life and experiences. David is full of life stories and that is what about. A one lap race 😊
Fontucky - when 210 ended at San Dumas, you have to take Foothill all the way after, it was like Wild West 😂 Rancho was gang neighborhood 😅 Thank you Dave for the memories!
My brother is a drummer and in the 80's played clubs around the midwest. Clubs had different rules if a fight broke out. Some said to keep playing and others told us to stop until they kick the offenders out.
I remember 40 years ago listening to a radio interview with VH talking about a crowd cheering on a couple banging in the back of a pickup. The story I remember is that they stopped and got dressed when they realized everyone was watching and the girl stood up in the truck and started "boogeyin' with her pants on backwards". Either I'm misremembering a variation on the same story or it was common behavior for girls to dance wth their pants on backwards in the proximity of pickup trucks.
Just got some sun on my body and now listening to "The Diamond". Dave telling stories is an anti-depressant🙂
I agree 100%. Been dealing with a lot of that lately. Dave's stories always cheers me up.
AMEN
It is!

You hear when Dave reminisces about early VH, how much he loved those guys?! He really did love them!
Thursday lunch with DLR is like Friday night cocktails! 💕😎
I am so stoked about The Roth Show being back, thank you Dave!
I've Never listened to someone that sounds so genuinely happy . What a life he's had. Long live diamond Dave!!
It's good to hear his voice and laughter. He sounds like he is still 25 , yet he is almost 70?
No he's always sounded like he's pushing 70. That's why we love the guy
Six minutes in... Magnificent. Long live Diamond Dave. 💎
Priceless
Great episode Dave! Love to hear stories from the golden years
Dave has reached "National Treasure" status after decades of being a legend.

DLR tells a story with so much vigor and his laugh makes me smile!❤
Love your show Dave. You are, hands down, the most interesting man in the world!
Man I LOVE hearing the old Van Halen early days stories!!! Thanks Diamond!!!
I finally got around to reading Van Halen Rising and learned about the important role DLR played in moving the band forward even when they faltered.
I met Dave outside of the old Mothership station WMMS in Cleveland, he stopped there to do the show "Westwood One" and was as good in person as you hear him now. You and VAN HALEN were the soundtrack of my high school and continue to be in my 50's.

“I can bond with a fire hydrant.”
That made me laugh so hard my Yorkie got startled and farted.
Whether you love him or hate him you have to admit he is entertaining as hell. Plus one of the greatest front men in rock and roll ever in my opinion

It's a privilege to listen to the Dave tales every day. Thanks, Dave. Always laughing!
Dave is probably the best representation of freedom. Average people would need 100 lives to build such a repertoire

So refreshing listening to someone who can tell stories from the past without being politically correct…
Yup, different times, and out of context, some of its probably horrifying to this new generation…..
