It’s 5:38 am on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Indianapolis Union Station, Indiana.
We see Amtrak train 51, the Cardinal, which operates from Moynihan Train Hall, Penn Station, New York City to Chicago Union Station, undergoing its crew change.
We see our new locomotive engineer boarding our General Electric P42DC d-e locomotive, then walk the length of our train.
Only six trains per week call here, Amtrak’s Cardinal, train 51 and 50.

When I was growing up we used to ride the cardinal from Hinton to Chicago to visit family. Good memories... except the year we had an engine derailment and were stuck in Indiana for 8 hours waiting on another train to pull us the rest of the way. 😃

Hey Russell, thanks for the AMTK #51 coverage @ IND. Yessir at 0545 hours, it does indeed look like a lonely place. I have yet to travel in the Viewliner sleepers as of yet, I'm hoping soon.
Okay #51, let's highball Indianapolis on signal indication, OVER - Here we go on a clear - On a clear, thanks, OUT 🚦🚦

This means a lot to me. I have lived in Indianapolis my whole life. Not as lonely as you would think. Hoosier hospitality and the sycamore trees and new mown hay help.
