My daughter currently lives in Vancouver in the Coal Harbor district, her husband is a Canadian officer. Five months ago I sent her 10 German tilt and turn windows and two patio doors that also tilt and turn. 300 euros per window, 400 euros per door. I was able to handle freight via NATO for little money. My son-in-law just had to pick up the cargo himself from Vancouver International Airport in a van. It took 3 days to install it ^^ Kind regards from Germany
I assume you'll find an importer or perhaps even a production, an US branch of a german window producer in North America. In 2014 I was able the find a branch of a German producer in Bangalore South India. :)

Winter tires have a better grip, not only on ice and snow, but also on wet streets with wet fallen leaves, which makes it slippery!
On wet streets yes to some degree, like when you compare a good winter tire to a bad summer tire, on wet fallen leaves, no, only spikes would have a better grip on wet leaves.

There is also something called Rolladen (not to be confused with Rouladen) - a rolling/roller shutter installed in front of a window. A room turns almost black when it is lowered, even at noon.
There are a few advantages that Kippfenster have:

No, sometimes the opposite is true.
My neighbor on the ground level locked herself out from her apartment when she took the trash out. Luckily her windows, two panels of it were in leaning mode. The handles were in the middle, close to each other. So she came up to me, asked for a chair, I gave her a ladder. She reached through the gap of the right side window for the handle of the left side window to close then open it the normal way. Then she climbed in and the issue was solved, but it could had been just as easy and fast for an intruder to break in.
There is also a zero skill method that involves a hook and a wire that you place on the handle from the outside of a leaning window, and some other wires, and you can open that single leaning window in 20 seconds.
A bandit can open Kippfenster with a screwdriver 🪛 even when they are closed and not gekipped.🤓

@@traylor2502 it's super rare to have 2 such windows next to each other tho. I've only ever seen double windows where one can kipp and the other can only open fully with a lever on the side
To understand the benefits of tilted windows, one has to know that in Germany (and most of Europe, I would say), residential buildings generally heated via radiation (either metal radiators often below window, or via a heated floor). This is in contrast to North America where most often forced air systems are used.
At least I think that is the reason why airing out your home is much more common thing in Germany. And tilted windows allow you to let a little bit of fresh air in, which often can be just what you want. It also allows you to leave the window ‘open’ when it rains, at least for lighter rain.

Winter tires are not only good for snow! winter tires are also softer so they work besser when you use the breaks
Something to add, as he mentioned in the video, they wear out faster, because of their softness. They also can't go as fast, as they can disintegrate at high speeds (like 170-220 km/h depending on your tire), which is why you sometimes see a little "speed limit" sticker on your dash when you get winter tires. They also all have an intended direction of rotation, so be careful when changing your own tires that you don't put them on backwards, or else they can't fling the snow out of their grooves.
The most densely populated belt in Canada, on the east coast, is about the size of Japan (best train density). Of course, the aeroplane is better from east to west. I use public transport almost every day, but that's a few kilometres a day, like you do by car.
Size matters less than you think, but car lobby does. I recommend the channel Not Just Bikes by a Canadian who lives in the Netherlands when it comes to the differences in infrastructure North America vs Europe and why it is that way.
A _fast_ train system connecting Montreal with Toronto and US cities like NYC, Detroit, Chicago is _absolutely necessary_ in times of climate change. Also I heard, there are some plans to connect Vancover southwards via Seattle to Portland or even Eugene.

The October to Easter rule is not quite the best, since easter is not on the same date every year, and especially in April the weather can get quite chaotic and cold again before it finally truly gets warm, so the best thing to do is to keep the winter tires on from October to the start of May

The size thing is a resulst of how we use maps ^^
Mercator-projection is the key here, one basically puts a lamp in a globe and "draws" the lines on a cylindrical paper around the globe ... therefor the more one comes to the poles the areas get stretched ... never wondered why on a map the poles (one point) can span the complete side of a map? ^^
The double decker rail cars is one of the very few innovations that survived from the former GDR (East Germany), and were originally from 'Waggonfabrik Görlitz', which is one of the few gems surviving the crunch after the iron curtain fell.
The double decker trains are mostly used in regional transport. Only a very few intercity trains use such cars.
We got winter tyre weather the last week again in some parts of the country (after we had the first summer days before). So the "O" rule did not work out well this year - the cold came only after Easter. But in many regions you go fine with All Year tyres - not as good in snow and ice as winter tyres and not as economically in summer as summer tyres (they cause a higher fuel consumption and wear down quicker on dry roads than summer tyres).
There are several advantages on tilting the windows: First of all you won't get much rain into the window if you leave it open while it's raining outside. Most wind will have little to no effect on your windows unless it's very stormy outside and the worst that can happen is that the windows are sucked closed by the wind. Burglars can't enter your house through a tilted window unless they use force or tools in which case it doesn't really matter if the window was closed or tilted. And so on.

I didn't realise that kohlrabi was a German thing. I don't eat kohlrabi often, but I never thought about whether you can get it in other countries.
If you visit your dentist regularly for a check up (at least once a year) for a mininum of 5 years, healthcare will contribute a higher amount of money for your dentures. Spaghetti ice is quit simple but it looks so nice. I love it and i'm wondering that this isn't known in many other countries. There are even different sorts of sauce avaiable.

This tilting windows do have a third stealth mode which even most Germans have never heard off 😉
Put the grip in the middle between the open and the tilt position and the window will stay shut but open around 1mm all around to allow some airflow without causing a draft. Very clever!!
i havew never seen a non-tiltable window before leaving germany. they're pretty much the go-to standard here and they are everywhere.
When I was visiting Canada I used double-decker trains from Mississauga to Toronto Central (GO Transit), so they're at least not unknown. On the other hand we used the Sea Bus in Vancouver. Never made it to Vancouver Island though...

Tilt 'n' turn windows have been the standard windows in practically all of Europe for I guess at least the last 60 years or so.
So maybe it would be even more expensive if you had a different kind of window installed.
Winter and summer tires have different grooves to provide the best traction.

it's not so common at least, as the houses have very good insulation (compared to the US houses at least) and the hot summers where not so common (or just few days not long enought to heat up the houses) in the past.
But with increasing summer-temperatures and availability of "heat-pumps" (which can pump in both directions) full climate control in Germany is becoming common also.
The Italian inventor of spaghetti ice cream in mannheim angered later, that he had forgotten to make a patent on it. Nowaday they serve it very delicious in high quality, to differ from other ice cafes.
Here we have the red double decker train running from Karlsruhe to Lake Constance,
a very touristic panorama tour, specially in summer or winter, with lots of bridges and tunnels and touristic hotspots.

why not? Because you sit hours on the train? Living in Norway, we have a train from Trondheim to Bodø (from the middle to the north) , which takes 7hours and in Germany , the overnight trains are very popular, going from Hamburg to Austria or to Paris.
Those windows are even more modern nowadays. You can open them in different ankles. It is standard here as long I can think.
Winter tires are more complicated, the tread is just the “icing on the cake” and “only” have an impact on driving behavior down to -25 degrees Celsius. At even lower temperatures, the air humidity is so low that snow and ice begin to "stick" - the fine rib structure works like "sandpaper" where the tire grips the snow with hundreds of small "claws" as it rolls, or in other words like the bristles of a rotating wire brush. These are always related to the direction of rotation. The winter tire also has more water channels to allow dew water to drain away better and finally the rubber mixture is structured differently, it remains soft at minus temperatures and does not become hard and brittle

I agree with Rachel, the good thing is as a women in Germany you can go to a gynecologist for cancer screening but also to other specialists and it is paid for by your health insurance company. 🙂🌹
And catching things early is sooooo much cheaper for the system in the long run! Same goes for prenatal care, it actually saves costs to society.

Hi - since the beginning of 2024, only M+S tires (mud and snow) with the additional distinction of a "snowflake" are permitted in Germany.

A good Kippfenster is about 400-500 Euros. Including installation it's about double. And before you ask: They're mostly made of plastic. You can get wooden ones, if you wanna demonstrate how nature loving and environmentally friendly you are, but they won't last as long and you have to use wood stain all the time.
Yep, winter tires are softer, cause rubber gets harder in the cold, so summer tires wouldn't be able to adapt to the ground very good. Let me say it the canadian way: A summer tire in winter behaves like a puck on the ice xD

Those red double-decker train coaches are produced by Bombardier Transportation, which, until it was sold to the French Alstom company due to financial problems of its mother company, was part of the Canadian Bombardier group. 🙂🇨🇦

The tilded window is Standard in germany since the 1930tis...I never had another Windows in germany and i am Almosen 60 years old.....but it just found it's way in other europäischen countries a feeling years ago...there is no better way to open a Windows...
The thing with the trainsystem is a misconception... We got a REALLY good trainsystem in all over europe, so the excuse of: Canada or USA is SO BIG is wrong. You can get in the train and travel from Berlin to Madrid or from Warsaw to Lisboa without a problem. It will take a lot of time of course, but it is possible and without getting controlled on the borders too!

I can't recommend the channel NotJustBikes and its sister channel Strong towns highly enough. They tackle the claims that trains or even public transit isn't viable due to the countries' size head on. And prove them very wrong. You'd be astonished how great it could work if the car dependent society in Canada and even more so the USA were handled differently. Because both a long distance train system and great local public transportation is definitely feasible and economically viable.
Edit: make your own spaghetti ice cream at home. Get yourself a potato ricer for mashed potatoes. It should be flat bottom one, not the angular cone shaped ones. Otherwise the ice cream will splurge everywhere 😂
Recipe:
1. Pile a good heaping of whipped heavy cream on a plate (about a child's fist size)
2. Press 2-3 scoops of good vanilla ice cream through the ricer directly over the whipped cream so that the cream is covered.
3. Top it off with strawberry sauce and sprinkled with grated white chocolate
Voila, your own home-made spaghetti ice cream. The whipped cream under the ice cream freezes slightly, giving a slight creamy bite once you reach it.

Yes, for you. But be aware that the tilted window can be a death trap for your cat. So NEVER leave your home with a tilted window when you are a cat owner.
Years ago one of my colleagues did that an when she realised it and headed back home her cat was dead.
That is because the cat tries to slip through the window and get stuck in the middle. The V-shape is so high that the cat sinks down and the inner organs get slowly crushed.
It is a very cruel death, very painful for the poor pet so please never do it.

Spaghetti Eis beschte
The winter tire rule O to O is total outdated, from a time more than 20 years ago, when there was snow in the winter. Today there is no need to drive for 6 month with winter tires in summer conditions. As long as you dont live in the mountains in the south of germany there are only around 3-4 days with snow, that only last for a few hours befor its melted
you wont find other winodws in germany easy xD thats just the only window used

There is an older (almost extinct) version of these types of windows with two separated handles.
One handle in the middle of one side to close or open the window, an a second handle on the lower opposite side to switch the type how the window opens.
