This is my reaction to German Satire ROASTS American Political Hypocrisy (Volker Pispers)
In this video I react to German satire and kabarett artist Volker Pispers as he delivers a comedy satire performance about American and Western hypocrisy as well as using an interesting analogy about the German national football team.

Dafür haben aber viele Programme von Pispers die Zeit nicht gut überstanden. Man muss ganz klar lügen, um zu behaupten, dass er überall recht gehabt hat.
Hier hat er z.B. komplett den Überfall Russlands auf die Ukraine ignoriert und es als ukrainische Innenpolitik dargestellt. Inzwischen ist erwiesen, dass die meisten Kämpfer aus Russland kamen, es von Russland gesteuert war (Girkin). Selbst die Bombardierung des Donbas ist nicht so, wie es Russland erzählt. Es gibt Aufnahmen von Artillerie, die in beide Richtungen geschossen hat oder wie ein späterer Social-Media-Star "War-Gonzo" mit Granaten mitten in einer Stadt in verschiedene Richtungen Granaten geschossen hatte. Und noch vieles mehr.
In anderen Programmen hat Pispers den Grünen Nutzlosigkeit und Scheinheiligkeit unterstellt. Dabei hat er völlig verpasst, dass unter Fischer/Schröder die Energiewende angeschoben wurde, Elektromobilität entwickelt wurde, der Atomausstieg beschlossen wurde und nicht mit in den Irak einmarschiert wurde. Er lag hier also auch komplett falsch.
Es ist reine Ideologie, ihn als den Größten darzustellen. Die Größten treffen, Pispers hat sehr häufig auch daneben getroffen - hat eben nicht den Kern, also die innere Wahrheit, erfasst und komprimiert vorgebracht. Aber genau das macht gutes Kabarett aus.
Pispers hat interessante Ansichten gehabt, aber er ist ganz sicher nicht einer der Besten.
Und um deinen Text nochmal aufzugreifen:

Populism like "if you disagree with Pispers being the best, you just lie to yourself" is visible, but discussion on facts diappears. The question is whether it were users or bots who voted it down.
That's discussion culture on UA-cam. After taking effect of the EU's upload filters, UA-cam is the only platform where you can upload videos properly. And this platform, with its algorithms, determines the political discussion.

i like to introduce you another legendary and retired cabaret artist. it's georg schramm in his artificial characters. a good starter might be the clip "georg schramm | anger / zorn" with english subtitles. he and pispers are at least on par. but schramm is a bit more challenging.

The comment about the wc in Brazil is hilarious. He was kind of eating his words there. Germany won.
Not only that. It is clear, that in Donbas it were Russian troops in 2014. And they tortured a bit more than americans in Irak. In Irak, all said OMG, but in eastern Ukraine and Russia it's quite normal. In the newest Doschd Arte cooperation (possible to see here on UA-cam) you see, that Russia don't even hides torment anymore.

Why Russia had to lie so much? One fake story after the next. Look at Doschd/Arte. It's full of that.
There was no freedom movement apart from Russian propaganda towards Russia. Why was there so much election fraud in the eastern part of Ukraine in favour of Russia? Torment, murder and so on. There was an open border and Russia used that open border to infiltrade. Girkin started the war in eastern Ukraine with his guys.
The money (5 Mrd. "of Nuland"), which Ukraine got, was from 1991 until Maidan. Also Russian republic got similar payments. E.g. without that american money Russia wouldn't have much basic research left. The Soviet Union collapsed around 1990. Germany, USA and other countries helped Russia and the other former soviet states to survive. Nothing else!

Für die Anstalt gilt das gleich, was ich oben zu Pispers geschrieben habe. Für die ist der demokratische Westen an allem schuld- nobody else. Rußland-Verharmloser sind es auch. Habe das Wort Nestbeschmutzer immer gehasst, auf die Anstalt trifft es zu . Noch schlimmer diese Clownsparade "Heute Show". Der Truthanhalsmoderator verdient 1,3 MIllionen pro Jahr- kein Wunder, dass der immer debil am grinsen ist.
@@gillan5 Unfug. Die Anstalt gibt zu, wenn sie daneben lagen. Sie machen auch praktisch immer einen umfangreichen Quellennachweis. Alles ist nachprüfbar. Ja, die Anstalt hat den Fehler gemacht, russischen Quellen zu sehr zu glauben. Das haben sie aber eingestanden. Ansonsten sind die Dinge peinlich genau recherchiert. Die behaupten nicht einfach irgendetwas, sondern Gags gibt es erst, wenn die Fakten stimmen. Es wäre schön, wenn jeder in der Branche diese Genauigkeit hätte.
Die Heute-Show ist auch gut recherchiertes Kabarett. Und die haben die Einschaltquoten, um die Gage zu rechtfertigen.

Wowereit was the mayor of Berlin at that time.
He did around 50% hyperbole and 50% (at least technically) correct. Contemporary (2023) german satire is still on the same level, maybe more. To the point where if you go and factcheck it, it stops being funny, because it's only 5% hyperbole.
I think most of the time the audience doesn't know it to laugh or cry at the jokes, because the jokes indeed are fact based

At least the cooperation between Doschd and Arte interviewed a Russian media guy and since 2012 he had to talk about the degenerated West.
In 2014 they attacked Ukraine from Russian territority and spread a lot of lies. A lot of the people still believe these Russian fairy tales. And Pispers spread some Russian narratives right here too.

I love your scottish accent! I had business partners, who spoke with this accent. It took a while to get into the groove to understand them and it was fun! Volker is top nodge of german cabaret.

i agree.. a comeback of volker pispers would be huge. but i think he kinda loves being retired now and i dont think he would believe that his form of comedy would work with the shitstorm society and cancel culture among us
if you watch his show "bis neulich" over the years... with all his effort to recount events... to point out connections.... you recognize that there is a change in tone... once more or less light hearted... becoming more elaborate and aggressive... then angry.. and lastly.. frustrated... and then he quit... and who can blame him...
I am ever so thankful that he quit. Hope he moves to Russia.

Klaus Wowereit was governing mayor of Berlin from 2001 to 2014 and Head of the Board of Directors of "Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH", a publicly owned company responsible for construction and operation of the newly built BER airport. The airport construction became (in-)famous for being a complete mess, busting all time and cost predictions. It was originally scheduled to take 5 years and cost 1 billion €(in the planning phase) to 2b € (when construction began). In the end it took 14! years and over 7b €.
On the topic of Ukraine: I think there's definitely framing going on in the media to picture the current government as heroic freedom fighters versus the evil russians/russian friendly former government. I also wouldn't be surprised to learn some day that the CIA was involved in for example fueling the protests on Maidan square. It would fit their (documented) behaviour of destabalizing governments they don't like (or that don't like them).
well Putin is evil and mass murder - there is no doubt about it. Russian soldiers are slaughtering Ukrainian civilians every day on Putin's orders. The part about the possible involvement of the USA is just your thinking and not proved. The USA has certainly made many mistakes in its history, but Russia is even worse. Its empire is built on blood and suffering - that of foreign peoples and that of its own population. The Russians are not the good guys here.
I am absolutely missing Volker Pispers. If he was still making political cabarett there would be tons of useful material to understand the actings from all over the world. I loved his humor, his intelligence and his style of how he gets the truth across in his shows. But he retired, because in his opinion everything that has to be said was said. We need him back so much! Volker, please make satire great again! .. Who took my mirror??

if I remember correctly, Pispers retired because he was doing the same sketch over and over again as nothing majorly changes. Well.. he is right, isn´t he.
The truth is sometimes difficult to bear, as you can see in the audience's reaction; they either don't believe him or want to stay on the right side because it's more convenient
I think I also saw some faces that were like, "How dare he say that?" because they knew he was telling the truth but they themselves would never have dared to speak out on such sensible topics.

Selenskij actually changed the situation in Ukraine. There was a publication by Russian strategists that Ukraine would crumble after 2014 due to internal corruption. That was thwarted by Selenskij. Also Putin really attacked in 2022. No one thought he’d be that crazy and it changed the perception of worries east European country had voiced for years.
You know, Mert, I think the term "critical thinking" (as missing in the world) is wrong here. I dont feel there is lack of criticism. There is criticism everywhere and towards everything that is uncomfortable or doesn't fit ones own wishes.
What I think is missing is rather "self-scrutiny" or "critical auto-meta-thinking". People don't question, their own thought processes, their own conviction and judgememts and evaluations. They dont question how they arrive at a certain belief and they don't differentiate, or are unable too, between feelings, beliefs and objectifiable facts. So many people intermix subjectivity and objectivity and are completely unaware of it. Granted that perfect objectivity is impossible for humans. But that is why scientists, philosophers and other highly educated people always utter their stances carefully and with so.e reservedness. Because they know they might be biased etc.. So they speak or write more delicately, while probably being more correct than anyone, who is shouting the loudest.
And UA-cam helps these easy fairy tales. In normal case facts get voted down. And if you put links in it, it will surely be banned. On UA-cam, the bots always win.
Critical thinking is not the same as criticism.
Any idiot can criticise. And every idiot does. In contrast, a professional critic is supposed to critique. Do proper hermeneutics and analyse the shit out of a text, the good and the bad, what works and what doesn't, and what it all means.
That requires critical thinking, but that is not what critical thinking is about. Critical thinking is to thinking as critical mass is to mass. There is a qualitative difference.

As Socrates put it: If I am wiser than others, it is because I don't imagine myself to know that which I don't know. (Which was immediately misunderstood as "I know that I know nothing.") It is easy to fall into the trap of forming conclusions that align with expectations, rather than what the evidence or assumptions actually bear out.

No. It was after invasion of crimera and after Invasion in Donbas. He spread the fairy tale of Ukraine bombed Ukrainian citizens in Donbas. But there was an invasion over the open border and there are also videos of Russinas (e.g. "War Gonzo" or artillery shelling in 2 directions - 180 degree) shelling in all directions in Donbas. Nothing is like Russia propagates and Pispers believed it.
I thought the Russian invasion of Crimea started in June 1771.

I think he wouldn‘t do that again today. Volker Pispers was Part of those, who dreamed about to life with Russia side on side in friendship, so did I. Well, that turned completly. The Reality is hard. Putins Russia today is our Enemy, what makes me very upset. But it is how it is and now we have to do what we have to do. We will never, ever again bow to a dictator!
You know, Pispers called Putin a war criminal for what he did in Chechnya when the West was still praising Putin for his forward thinking neoliberal politics and trying to do business with him.
Volker Pispers retired some time ago. So yes nothing of his work can comment on current events. What he is talking about happened in 2013 / 2014. It plays into the take over of the Krim by Russia and the conflict in eastern Ukraine that was ongoing from 2014 till the invasion by Russia. So it is still connecte, but it is not a comment on the invasion itself.
Volker Pispers retired from doing satire several years ago. This must be from 2014 as they referenced the world cup in Brazil .... where the German team became world champion :-)
You should look for Martin Sonneborn and Nico Semsrott. To Kabarettists who gained a Seat in the EU Parliament.
Nico now left and is publishing a book about his time. If you want to feel less bad about Brexit, he might just be the right man to watch.
Klaus Wowereit was the mayor of Berlin (2001-2014). A very famous construction delay (or disaster) of almost 15 years of an airport took place in his term of office. He is made fun of a lot.
Every country in the world need at least one *Volker Pispers* with freedom of speech, without censorship and with a wide reach in the best broadcasting slots.
The world would be a way better place.
I think his take on the Ukraine situation is really bad here. Then again I can't blame him, I was just as naive as him back then and didn't see the situation clearly.
Obviously that doesn't take away from his point of the West being hypocritical. But I think it's impossible not to be when doing world trade. Stopping trade with these problematic countries altogether goes hand in hand with losing our standard of living, which usually coincides with a politcial shift to the far right. As can be observed right now in Germany. It's selfish, but I'd rather trade with countries with questionable human rights and let them solve this problem themselves than risking living in a dictatorship myself.

That's called an embargo. Germany stopping the trade with Russia was very much an inconvenience, it required the destruction of a gas pipeline which is an ecological desaster, but it was not impossible. Likewise there is little trade with North Korea, despite the rich mineral deposits there and their desire for imports. And there not being any actual reason for the embargo.
The biggest threat to world peace is the USA, which would not be able to survive without imports of everything. Their increasing imports of cheap Russian oil are an ecological desaster of course, but they account for about 40% of the Russian state budget. Most other things the USA import from China, although China gets nothing of value in return, other than the USA no longer invading their neighbours or funding a civil war.
At this point, embargoing the USA, the biggest arms dealer in the world directly delivering to all war zones, would be economically possible, and nothing of value would be lost, if the USA didn't have a permanent seat on the UNSC blocking such a resolution.
But the USA are trying to resurrect their own industry because they know that China or Russia or even Canada and Mexico could just decide not to do business with them anymore, any day now.
Not being a hypocrite would actually be easier than pretending that things are other than what they plainly are.

7:03 Klaus Wowereit was the Mayor of Berlin who ordered the construction of the new Berlin airport. This project has become one of the biggest construction embarassements in german history. The budget was ridiculous to begin with 1.9 Billion € but has during the course of ongoing work multiplied to now 7.1 Billion €. The work also still hasn't concluded (almost 20 years now) so this still isnt the final number. Huge corruption accusations, huge incompetence and no one wants to take the blame.
Please Go for a vid from Georg Schramm . he is/was by far the best in german satire . nowhere days he just does theatre cabare

Wowereit was the mayor of Berlin and is responsible for the Airport desaster of the BER. First it took over 10 years to build it, which is a scandal in itself, then there were numerous deficincies in the buildings, and the costs rose from initially 2 billion to nearly 7 billion EUR.
For all intends and purposes and if we would follow the example, Wowereit would have been in prison for a long, long time. At the time of the Video there was no date set for the opening, therefor the jab at the opening date..
5:15 It's media driven. Quite obviously actually. We still don't know who the sharpshooters of the Maidan were. We do know that the USA had a very strong need for a coup d'etat, there are even very condemning recordings where the coup government gets decided by a USA ambassador or something of the sort. Funnily, back then we also knew that there were Nazi militias in the Ukraine, armed by the government. People that openly believed in the ukrainian master slav and the russian subhuman. The west trained them - for a while. Some countries noticed they were Nazi scum and refused to continue. Now they are part of the military. NATO, to international womens day published a picture of a Ukrainian female soldier for a while who sported the black sun on her uniform - a known neo nazi insignia. Nowadays nobody wants to know anything about this anymore. Because the media activly tries to bury it. And the public just forgot. (which to me as a German who still grew up under the credo "not an inch for Nazis" is doubly painful. Not only do we support people that support neo-nazis, but we also act as if it is the most normal thing on the world to close our eyes to the beginings of such a thing)
Pretty sure the dig at Putin wire tapping us would be bad wasnt him saying Putin wouldnt do that, it was him saying the USA did that and we swept it under the rug, but if Putin did it we would be outraged.

You're definitely allowed to criticize Ukraine If you want, the Problem with that topic speciffically is that the people who criticize Ukraine a lot also often tend to overly side with russia.
You are allowed to say that Ukraine wasnt that much less corrupt than russia pre war.
You can also say that Ukraine Had massive Problems with social inequality, homophobia etc.
There are valid Points to make and at least in my experience these are not things that will get you frowned upon unless you follow it up by saying Something sensationally stupid Like "russias Attack was good and we shouldnt take in their Refugees".

In other programs Pispers bashed the Green Party for reaching nothing and no will to reach anything. These videos are hyped on UA-cam. And if you tell, that this is not aged very well, it's getting voted down. Maybe by audience, maybe by bots.

I noticed our german politicians in tv talking about the terrible acts of russia in the ukraine and the hamas in israel. he didn't mention the bombing of civilists by isreael though... Pispers is echoing a lot of Putin's lies here. The accusations against Tymoshenko, for example, were completely fabricated, as is often the case in Russia with political opponents. But Pispers presents it as fact.
