I bought a 98 2dr XLT Sport for $1600 as a winter truck few years back! All I had to do is get new tires and brakes and battery and general maintenance like oil change/ wipers that's about it! It had an aftermarket remote starter that I was unaware of that my brother got working again for me which was a great feature I used often when I had this truck. I never once got stranded anywhere with this vehicle and in bad weather the 4wd was an amazing handler. Body wasn't bad had some rust starting but solid yet for an old truck. I had an engine light that would go on and off and sometimes would stay on too! Story end I left the truck with my father in law cause his 2006 Colorado was falling apart and he needed a reliable truck and as where they live doesn't require echeck so he has it now and ive gotten myself a new 2021 Kia Sportage EX AWD but the Explorer was a good vehicle for what I paid for it no complaints. Reminded me alot of my Dad's old Aerostar and Rangers way it was truck-like.
@@slavvings we never did unfortunately, now it's in a condition that'll cost us more than it's value let alone the price we paid for it to even get it running
But you know being young not knowing about cars was all it took for that to happen. Looking at another one with the v6 so imo they good trucks just gotta baby them
Recently purchased a 1999 version from the wife of a deceased friend. I purchased to give to my sister in the midwest. As I turned the corner on the street we live, the car stopped running including the brakes. Took to local ford dealer who kept it for two months. Repaired the computer, changed the fluids, fixed a few of the issues and called me to pick it up. I originally asked the service person to check the air bag system to see if it was working (did not think so) and check the shift lever as it registered in the wrong spot when you drove. Also the battery was not charging according to the wife of the owner. Picked it up, they did nothing about the battery except change it for a new one, which was not the real problem. It was the alternator which had to be rebuilt or replaced so I left it at the dealer. The shift lever still was not fixed when I picked it up. They said the air bags pumps were working. There are no air bags on the auto, some one removed them. I don't think much of ford or the dealership in Napa, CA especially after the maintenance manager called me every name he could think of and would not fix the items that needed done.
as a 98 ford explorer owner (my first car)... i wish mine looked nearly this nice. but after 229k strong miles i can't complain. i did fuck up the front left fender pretty badly last New years, but that's what i get for doing donuts in a parking lot.
@@kylepride4353 that’s awesome! I actually bought a 2000 explorer with 118k on the odo 4.0 v6 4x4 1 family owned. Friend is storing it for me while went abroad but can’t wait to use again!
@@jsh06gaming46 nice nice! Yea mine is in pretty darn good shape considering its age. How much would u sell mine for if u were to sell it? It has perfect interior, 5.0L, kenwood touchscreen, with 133,xxx miles. It bluebooked at 3200, but I don't always feel like they give u best price.
@@kylepride4353 honestly, it depends on rust. The people who I bought it from wanted 3500 but I got them to fix everything and ended up selling it to me for 2500. It has some frame rust but body is in decent shape. The state the car came from didn’t allow visible rust. My state doesn’t mind and we only have real snow once or twice a year. Honestly I’d personally aim high at 3500 and just be relatively open to offers....See if anyone bites
I love these things we had one for 6 years never went wrong used everyday looked after god we miss it
I am looking to buy one just for going offroad, idk man, I think that this SUV is a beast but u know....people thoughts🤷🏿♂️. What do u suggest??

most comfortable truck seats ever. have two of them xlt and xls.
Sin duda es una de mis camionetas preferidas.
exterior color is "Medium Wedgewood Blue" and interior color is "Medium Graphite"
I remember my 1998 XLT fully loaded 6 cylinder. I had it brand new! I sadly junked it as the motor was shot and it was getting old at 232,000 miles
One thing that's suprising arout these trucks is the domelight cancel feature of the dimmer switch
My rearview mirror dimmer turns m uh headlights off and on lol
Me and my dad are fixing up a light blue version of this car to become my future car
How'd it turn out?

Old 1998 Ford Explorer So Many Times Faster And Better Than New 2020 And 2021 And 2022 Ford Explorer
Why the hell won't any of these reviews put the back seats down??? I'm trying g to see how much room the cargo would have....uugghhh.
its damn near the size of a pickup with a cap. squeezed a queen size matress in the back once.
+Jessica Guzman Enough room for a 6'4" man to sleep. Literally. My feet touched the tailgate and my head the passenger seat, It's enough cargo room
Jessica Guzman just buy a 2017 explorer url have plenty of room then
