    Using the thick glass plates for the lamination was VERY clever thinking and seems to have produced good laminates. My boat-building experience strongly suggests that if you see an increase in the number of customers who want carbon fiber in their limbs and/or risers, an investment in a vacuum pump, peel ply, etc. would quickly pay for itself in reduced labor, the elimination of "sticking and prying," and even better saturation and carbon-to-resin ratios.
    For the average amateur bow builder, however, your method is close to perfect. It MIGHT be worth experimenting with one or two of the more advanced mold-release compounds to see if the laminate would "let go" of the glass more easily than with the car wax (or whatever) that you used. Just a thought, Chris (Maine, USA)

      Do you reckon that two thick pieces of glass is the easiest way to create enough pressure? I am a fairly amateur Bowyer but love the look of carbon fibre on bows and seems to be a good material as well. Any advice?

    Show de bola.
    Duas dúvidas. É cera automotiva que tu usou para não grudar a resina no vidro? E depois usou solvente para limpar?

    • @IndianaBows
      @IndianaBows  2 роки тому +1

      A cera que usei é uma cera desmoldante, propria pra ser usada com resina. Em lojas que vende resina se encontra os desmoldantes tbm.
      A automotiva até da pra usar tbm, mas é meio arriscado. Já perdi chapas de vidro por conta do uso dela.
      Já o solvente, é só pra tirar o excesso do desmoldante da lâmina e dar um pouco de brilho.
      Como no final só ia mostrar ela, sem verniz nem nada, quis limpar pra tentar deixar mais brilhante.
      ( O que funcionou mais ou menos. Rsrs.. )

    I'm going to attempt to copy what you did. I hope it goes well. Is it a good rule of thumb to mix glue just slightly more than the weight of the cloths? I've never done this before and was actually going to wet lay the carbon and could just mix more glue just in case I didn't have enough. Thanks for the help in advance. 😀

    Nice one. May I ask some questions? Is that a warm dry chamber? There where you let dry the carbon fiber? And if it is, how many degrees is it set to? What kind of carbon fibers you used? And they were all the same or in different sizes? I'm talking about thickness, ecc. Thank you very much, but please: change music!😂🙏

    5 coats of honey wax would have helped with that release, and I would have added a few 2-3 strands of uni down the center of each strip. Have a few layups to try once I get going, would like to vacuum bag mine eventually

    Hi buddy very interesting I tried once to make carbon sheets I put it on belly side it did not compress very well. Mabe if I put carbon in back side or middle of limb then it will work better and fiberglass for belly. How many sheets you used for this carbon sheet? And how thick did it came out? Great work live you bows. .

    • @IndianaBows
      @IndianaBows  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks very much. I have some problems with compression too, but I discovered that was because the resin quality that I was using and the quantity of carbon. I find that 3 or 4 sheets works well, but I believe that if the areal carbon weight is bigger, than can be used less sheets.
