Hey everyone! I'm super excited to share this behind the scenes with you using the new Sony A7IV and the Sony GM 70-200mm f2.8 mkII. Since I still don't have access to the raw files, please keep in mind that these are all JPG SOOC photos and I used those JPGs to edit too :) I'm looking forward to seeing the raws eventually to see how much of the highlights I can recover from some of those brighter photos. Let me know which ones were your favourite photos down in the comments!

Thank you for watching! - Навчання та стиль
As a regular dude with a camera (not pro), I have many fave UA-cam channels where I learn the science and tech of photography. Yours does that, BUT...your channel and content expresses the SOUL and ART of photography. I always feel inspired after watching your work here. Thank you so much. Blessings to you, Dan, and Lidija
This comment just made my day, thank you!!
couldn’t have said it better myself
Your narration is incredibly helpful. You're shots are amazing, but your ability to articulate your technique is truly impressive. I'm just starting photography, and your insight plus the actual settings is wildly helpful. Thanks a Billion. Keep up the great work.
the close ups are absolutely stunning....my faves.
What a fascinating model! She’s got this porcelain doll thing going on that she really makes work for her.

This whole vid was ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
the unedited shots look crazy clean, like it would barely need any post processing work, simply CANNOT wait to try it out with my otus 55mm, i dont feel so bad for getting rid of my a7riv now, 33mp seems like the perfect balance
She's looking so gorgeous omg, very special. Natural etc
Living for this content! 🤩 such beautiful colours, really want this lens now 🤭 saving starts now. Great video!
Thank you so much!!
Wow, photo quality is phenomenal.
That model + the lens makes the picture so dreamy. Omg I need a lens like that
THESE PICTURES ARE PERFECTION!
Thanks for the great content. Really makes us see the strength of the camera!
What a beautiful model. Your photography and the explanation of it especially as you go along is excellent. Thank you for these informative, educational, and especially enjoyable videos! I just got the new 70-200 GM 2. So look forward to using it!
Thank you so much, I hope you enjoy using it! I was thinking of picking one up myself.
Love love love! These photos are so beautiful! I love the colors and mood! This lens is so fun! I love how she stands out in the photo just right! You can see the foreground and background great too! It has a wonderful feel to all of the photos! ♥️
Thank you!! Yeah it's a little different to my usual bokeh-filled work haha but I agree, I like that you can make out the background a little more with this lens!
@@juliatrotti let’s be honest though! All your work is amazing! 😁
This model is phenomenal.
SUPER SHARP!! I'm in awe how gorgeous these portraits with a 70-200 mm lens!
It's so interesting how much DETAIL you can see hahah especially in the super close up shots, so crazy!
I mean the pictures are just beautiful 😍 wow so impressed with how the lens gives that dreamy effect
Thanks so much!
Julia, this was sooooo good! The dreaminess at 200mm was amazing!! Although this has just contributed to my impatience while I wait for my copy to arrive!
I would love to see a direct comparison of the Sony GM 135mm @f1.8 vs the 70-200mkii @200mm f2.8. My theory is that this is where both of these lens are at the creamiest and providing the most separation, but it would be great to see it, and hear your views on this.
Thanks again Julia. ✌️
(Props to Dan on another great video, too).
This is the exact camera+lens combo I have and Olán to use for portraits. Thanks a lot for the video!!’
You're my inspiration, great work :)
These are so good! 🙌 I find the triptych layout ones to be particularly beautiful.
Thank you!
I’m new in your channel, I really love your job💜
I find the video particularly valuable. How often do you look for the right background as a photographer? That a bush and a lot of green do such wonderful work is awesome. Thank you for showing me what is really important as a photographer.
Thanks to the entire team for the outstanding work. As always, it was a pleasure to watch.
The photos were amazing with perfect composition, sharp, and well focused A perfect review 👏💫💫
Thank you!
@@juliatrotti welcome 🙏 :- from india 🇮🇳
that‘s my dream cam setup. And the brown orange colors with the green background look soooooo good
Ahh thank you!!
Great job as always ! How do you compare the rendering of your photos compare to the 135 GM ? Thanks
She's such a good model!
really have to like how sharp and detailed the eyes are. hoping to practice some portraits with the a7IV when it arrives from pre-order. only have the sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS to work with, but really want to complement that with a 20mm and 135mm prime, if only I could afford them. do you think anyone will release a 135mm f1.4 or should I plan to get the 1.8 thats currently highly reviewed for sharpness? is it difficult to work with 20mm or 135mm primes for unconventional uses like 20mm portraits?
70-200 is my favorite for sure. I love the rf version because its small.
Dope video as always!! What do you have plugged into the side of your camera?
i really love your videos on this channel, may i know what type of device are you using to record your camera screen while taking photos ? thank you
Amazing shots with the expensive camera and exprensive lens 📸🤭📸🤭😃😃
How do you export and get so beautiful photos? You work is always awesome!!
Looks like Cooper Park! This actually solidifies the 35-150mm tamron purchase for me. as the images from this 70-200mm are genuinely beautiful, yet not dramatically different in rendering for me. Thus why gear recommendations are so user-dependant.
Shows just how good edited JPEGs can be when you get your exposures and white balance correct in camera
Honestly, this might be my favorite portrait session you've done this year! 🤩 Lydia did amazing!! (Both Lydia and Lidia 🤣🤣)
Ahh thank you!! I really appreciate it 🙏
can u do a video on the a7iv with the sigma 85 dg dn ? love ur vids
Awesome lens, i received mine today and in combinatie with my A1....brrrrrr nice.
Julia, i just got the 70x200 so now I have this same set up and cant wait to go tear it up
Hi Julia, tempting to buy one A7IV. For my wedding setup i use currently two sony A7iii. So the A7IV wil replace one A7iii. Is there a big difference in color science between the IV and iii?
I love your job.
I really love your color grading. The lut you used in this video is Positano lut?
could you do a review with your 85mm 1.4 vs this lens (70-200mm 2.8 mkii) at 85mm - I'd love to see how they compare and if you'd consider ditching the prime to have this bad boy in your bag.... Personally I never shoot wide open on my 85mm and usually stop down to 2.8 as I like both eyes in focus.
Hi Julia , if you choose to do the portrait on a Somy prime lense , what lens you would definitely choose in most situations and why ?
Hello Julia, a new fan of your work, I just want to ask what is the monitor recorder your using? The that is attached on your A7iv thank you and kudos to your channel
So sharp @Julia do you shot on IBIS on every photoshot You do ?
Perfect model...
very nice your photography
Amazing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m super curious how the bokeh and compression compares at 200mm 2.8 versus the tamron 35-150 at 150mm 2.8.
awesome and sharp shots! those kind of lens are bloody expensive, but still nice sample photos, love'em! 🙏 🙏 I'm a Sony shooter ,too here in the Philippines!
Tamaron 70-180 is more budget friendly with similar quality. It's just not internal zoom, has more glass, not as much zoom and less features as far as stabilization/ customized buttons. Shit even the lens cuff is such a nice feature
Thank you!! I can also confirm the Tamron 70-180 is a fantastic lens, I have a review video on my channel somewhere from about a year back if you wanted to see 😄
Please make a comparison video between 135mm and 70-200mm for portrait .
Amazing video, I like it and I really enjoy your videos. I always learn new things! How do you record the camera screen without a monitor on top?
i was wondering the same thing
Idk if my next lens should be this or the 135 1.8 GM
Absolutely love your videos! I also have the A74 on preorder and currently trying to decide which lens to go with for portraits - 85mm 1.4 or this 70-200 2.8 - do you think the 2.8 can comfortably replace the 85mm 1.4? Keep up the great work!
Good question. Both are very nice lenses. The 70-200 is more versatile of course and you may use it for shootings where its not possible to get close enough. On the other hand the 85 is faster, so that's better for shots at that focal length if you need it for bokeh or darker lighting. You will have to zoom in with the 70-200 and step back to achieve a similar result. Also keep in mind that this will lead to a more compressed image. There still is no clear winner considering this.
But if you only would get one lens, I would actually recommend the 70-200. Reason: Versatility is key here. The 70-200 will allows you to take shots that the 85 won't, plus it allows you to use the compression when needed to change the perspective and part of images when you need it (for example when your background contains unwanted stuff). The 85 won't give you this option without being forced to reposition yourself and the model. The 70-200 should also give you potential more bokeh/blurry background then the 85. But keep in mind that the compression you get when actually using 200mm can also be problematic depending on your model. You may end up making your model look like he/she is having a thick neck, and an overall natural looking flat face. So dont always just use 200mm just because you can ^^
So having said all that: I would order the 70-200. You will probably love it as a all in one package lense. You can also use it to test out how shooting at 85mm feels (perspective etc)
Hi Julia! My faves were at the 3:25, 6:05, and 7:50 marks of the video. As for the lenses I'd like to see the A7IV paired with... They would be the Tamron 70-180 2.8 and the Sam Yang 85mm 1.4. I can't justify upgrading to another 85mm right now lol. Thanks, great work as always!
Thank you! And yess both of these are lenses I definitely want to use again, I’ll work on some videos soon 😄
@@juliatrotti Awesome! I look forward to them!
Heart it.✌️
I might have to reconsider getting rid of the 70-200 now... I don't know what the second song was but I need it lol
Tnk u so much I learned a lot Godbless 🙏🏻
i love it...
Aweee ❤️❤️
the unedited looks amazing sooc...
I agree, I’m loving the sooc files from the A7IV. Can’t wait to try it out in different lighting conditions when I get my own too.
Would love to see the a7iv and the 50 gm
very helpful.
how are you recording what the camera sees in this video? I don't see an external video recorder attached?
What is the purpose of the wire wrapped around the lens? Is it connecting a peripheral? (Still learning)
I’m trying to pick two lenses while I wait for my a7iv, it’s my first Sony and 1st full frame and you’re making me think I need this combo! Maybe the 35mm too. Or also considering 24mm and 50mm GMs. I was sure I would get the 24mm but you really sold me on the 35mm 🙃
Haha oh man I don’t even know how to help, it’s tough to decide! All the lenses you mentioned I have used and loved though, so at least whichever way you go, you won’t be disappointed 😅
Go Trotti! Good work! Nice surname italian i think.. :D
3:16 Insaaane :) :D
Which lens you use for shooting this vlog
Very nice and intuitive video. Could you please shoot with the 85mm prime lens next?
Thanks so much! And yes for sure 😄
Mem I m from India...which camera to purchase Sony M4 vs canon r6...as best picture quality....
Really love my Tamron 70-180.
I love that lens too! I would be interested in trying it out on this camera actually..
I need this Lens really bad. I have a few in my arsenal, but this range is what I am missing.
Bonjour il y a quoi sous ton APN? avec des antennes?
Saludos desde Republica Dominicana.
I like this model always moving around in every direction all over the park and you clicking photos in burst, now I know how these models get these awesome photos clicked😄
didi u shoot this in the rain a7iv good in rain>>>????
You ever think of using the 200-600mm lense for portrait? What's your thoughts?
Great vid. Just wondering why you’re running 200 iso and higher shutter speeds. Why not go iso 100 and lower the shutter speed?
It doesn’t matter in practice
Thanks! You can’t really see a difference between iso 100 and 200 in practice like this. When shooting with longer lenses I keep my shutter speed higher to make sure I don’t get any motion blur on my end - double that with a model who poses very fluidly!
Sony makes great cameras, nearly perfect cameras for the exception of the high price of the lenses! Otherwise everything's perfect 🥰
70-200 lenses are pretty expensive across the board for 2.8 versions (not that I wouldn’t mind paying less)
I really wonder if I should sell my GM-135mm to get the new GM-70200.. any thoughts on that?
Was thinking the same thing but the 135 is too much of a jewel to give up 😭
That’s exactly what I am doing. Yes, the 135mm is AMAZING, but this 70-200 is super as well, but offers so much more versatility. I think this lens at 200mm gives that same dreamy look as the 135mm. Of course you will lose some light, but I think the pros outweigh this. Anyway, that’s just my opinion! Be great to hear Julia’s opinion.
a7s3 vs a74 video shootout, please.
Between 135gm vs 70-200mm gm ii which one would you recommend?
I personally own and use the 135 gm more because I use it a lot in low light scenarios for weddings. If I didn’t shoot low light I would prob get this 70-200, it’s SUPER sharp and you just get more range vs a prime!
I mostly shoot my portraits with an 85mm 1.4 over my 70-200 2.8 for that reason - I plan to switch from Canon 5D mk3 to this video’s camera and lens combo - and hope that low noise allows shooting at high ISO. I know a fast prime would have better bokeh/separation, and be faster in low light, but starting off my switch to Sony feel like this lens would be the optimal starter (especially as I shoot wildlife too!). Thanks for these really helpful real-world videos. Would love to hear more video samples with in-camera mic recordings of lens noise using continuous AF with each of these lenses 🙏
Pls do an ASMR video with the A7iv’s shutter sound
Does anyone know how it’s recording her shots in real time?
Do you tend to shoot Manual or aperture priority?
I always shoot in manual! But there’s nothing wrong with shooting whichever way you’re more comfortable with 😊
Best
Are you shooting on continuous mode or one shot?
I like to use one shot, and I have it in continuous AF 😊
oh wow even the unedited version is really good
Yeah I’m loving what the SOOC images look like from this camera too!
👍
🤩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Forgive the untrained me. Why did you use ISO 200 versus 100?
The model’s gorgeous face reminds me of paintings of Da Vinci and Botticelli.
Omg I was telling Dan the same thing while I was editing the photos!
@@juliatrotti 🎨= 📷
Can you do a video with the more Mortals compatible f4 lens? I know this is the top of the top, but most of us can afford the humble f4, and it will be nice to see how it perform with this modern camera. Also, Many people prefer the f4 for it size and weight
Yeah for sure! I’ll get my hands on it soon 🤗
@@juliatrotti Oh, thanks for your reply and for getting my feedback. I have the 7iv on preorder 70-200 f4 too. Will be interesting to see how it perform on the new sensor and a7iv af. I have done beautiful portraits with this lens on a7iii . Also with luminar ai is so easy to cheat bokeh! 😀
Your model Lydia could have been an octopus in human form by the way she move her hand lol
She’s a dancer actually!
Wonder what she used to record the Viewer Sight ... hm
It’s a secret, she literally won’t answer that question on any of her video comments
Congratulations!! You've joined the Hi-Res digital dumbing down of aesthetics. Why bother taking photographs. Just let computational photography take over the visual world. Just throw out your DSLRs and classic lenses that have any character and substance and phone it in. Welcome to the club.
In every review, you take close-up photos. Why do we want to see the full photos, and I want 200 mm
The only way to really be able to see the quality and sharpness is when you zoom into 100%, so I like to share my unedited images like that. After I share the edited version of that photo at a normal crop so you can see the whole photo :)
What a lovely photoshooting!!! ❤❤❤ You are absolutely talented!!! Looking at your beautiful pictures make me want to try even though I am scared.... I want to buy a 70-200 lens, which model do you recomend? I've seen " Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO DG Macro HSM EX and Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD". Do you think I will be able to get at least 10% of your result?? Should I wait and buy the latest version? I appreciate your help. ❤❤❤ regards from Norway 😊 please vome and visit me😍😍😍😍
