This pilot was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. Obviously, it's aimed at a much younger audience, but I'm loving the family stuff, the stylish direction and the actress playing Kamala is very likable IMO.
Enitre MCU is aimed at younger audience
@@atryan1125 younger younger audience
It’s aimed for Marvel and MCU fans.
@@atryan1125 exactly. Kids will be watching deadpool and understand the discourse in Civil War
The dad is my favorite character, though those fruit pies are…
Fun fact Kamala Kahn’s actress, this is her first ever role in anything . And u can tell she’s a huge comic book fan just based on her last interview and like apparently she dressed up as Mrs.Marvel when she was 15 for Halloween I think? Like this was destined for her and for her first ever role she’s doing amazing
She also likes bugging Feige via text messages about inaccuracies in the movies vs the comics (like the whole 616 designation), which is totally Kamala-like tbh.
@@blackitten81 which is why she’s a perfect casting, because she’s probably the biggest comic book fan out of all the MCU actors. I feel like we’ll start seeing more ppl who are huge comic book fans in the upcoming years because of the popularity comic books and comic book movies have had the last 10 years or so
She was born for this role. She even looks like her with chubbier cheeks
They honestly NAILED the growing up in a muslim household in the US! Alot of the dialogue, the teachings, the structure of the family I thought were done very well and accurately. My parents were very strict and although it came from a place of love, it sometimes became hard fitting in at school and trying to connect with others like going out at night. And thats me as a son!! I know from my cousin’s stories and how their family operates, Its for sure much harder for daughters. So I thought the show was handling/showcasing the perspective of that life very well and respectfully!!
Everyone was a teenager so they should be able to relate on some level.
“Reality is overrated”
“You ain’t never lie”
Oooweee I felt that!
Honestly it took me back to my high school years having that identity crisis...its a good show my lil sis wants to be like her
Love how the LARPer who made the new Hawkeye uniforms had a booth at AvengerCon. We got a Trust-A-Bro moving truck in the end credits, too.
Nice!! I didn’t catch either That’s sweet
I caught the Trust A Bro truck as well. I love how these shows connect to different movies or tv shows no matter how small.
I saw the Trust A Bro truck but missed the LARPer.
I THOUGHT that was Her but wasn't sure. Good catch!
“Reality is overrated” BEST LINE IN THIS VIDEO😂💯
I like that unlike certain other UA-camrs, these guys are secure enough to like a show starring a teenage girl. Respect.
if Kamala is essentially Peter Parker's age in Homecoming, I'm curious why everyone seems to say this show is geared toward younger audiences, but Homecoming wasn't.
Maybe bcuz the parents problem.. just like movie "turning red"
There are rated R movies with high school main characters and PG movies with high school main characters. I don’t know the answer to why people are saying it’s geared towards a younger audience, but comparing it to Homecoming just because they’re the same age doesn’t make sense.
Homecoming was also gear to a younger audience
So far the tone is much lighter, and the producers have mentioned movies aimed at younger audiences as influences. I personally don't consider "aimed at a younger audience" a bad thing - I think the 2 best TV shows ever made were rated Y7
exaccttlyyy the tone is the same ms. marval and spiderman are both goofy teen heros and both projects feel very similar to me in how even though its about teens it's meant to be enjoyed by everyone. visually ms. marval is doing it's own thing (super colourful, very comic-booky) but in the beginning when she's doing her youtube video i mean thats so similar to how homecoming starts out with peter doing his documentary video thingy. maybe because ms. marval is newly popular with fans and spiderman has been popular with older people for longer
I get Kamala daydreaming. It’s her happy safe place like music was my safe happy place. I was bullied in school but who I am now there is no way things that went down back then would go down today.
I’m looking forward for the rest of the season because I so enjoyed everything about it
It was/is gaming for me helps me forget about things for a while
I think her character is consistent with the comics, and that's what's most important to me. I don't want a beat-for-beat reenactment of a comic storyline -- I just want to recognize the character's personality. I think the reimagining of her powers works so far and opens up what I assume will be some interesting revelations about her grandmother and how much her mother knows. Good start!
One thing I loved about this episode was how kamala reminded me of how I was (still am to a degree) at that age always daydreaming about being my favorite hero saving the world everything working out exactly as I planned that's what I really enjoy about shows like this when I can relate to the characters to a degree
I wasn't sure I'd like this, but it's SO amazing already! The visuals are so unique with the drawings and texts being part of the background itself, and there are some funny moments.
@@righteousrawb7225 no it diddnt animation has been around for ages
When the volleyball hit her head I rewound it several times laughing
They take the characters we don’t really know, and then make them into our new favorites, they always nail the casting!
I get the feeling that her grandmother's "rich fantasy life", that her mother hates so much, was a lot less fantasy than she thinks.
Grandma is the Rick Jones of the MCU?
Also, when she fell into the Upside Down, do you think the shadowy figures might have been past Protectors of the Universe?
Enjoyed it far more than I expected. Show was FUN!! Spot on about the actress, very likable.
I personally like it. It’s refreshing and she’s one of my favorite characters, i’m an older person. Love love the actress.
Personally, I don’t care about her powers being changed, seeing how she can still “embiggen” as far as her origin she got her powers through the terrigen mist that was release upon earth. But in the MCU we don’t have inhumans (they’re the ones who use terrigen mist to create new inhumans) so it makes sense that she would get powers through her ancestors, seeing how we are exploring the different ancestral planes (which is what I think she “fell” into when she put on the cuff) Regardless, I really liked this first episode, it was fun and colorful. Such a far cry from most of the Disney+ series we’ve had so far. Yes, it might be for younger audiences, but I’m 37 and still really enjoyed it. Iman is a great Ms Marvel!
I've read all of the Ms. Marvel comics and can say that for me, while the way the show has her get her powers and how they look is different, I'm really good with it. The core of Kamala has always been about her identity and accepting herself. Her powers were just a way of visually portraying those themes (she can essentially stretch and transform her body however she wants, even into looking like other people, and eventually she learns she felt most comfortable when she wasn't pretending to be someone else).
So far, I think they've nailed her character down. As long as they're able to hit the same beats about family, identity, self-acceptance, etc. in this MCU version, I'll be just as happy as I am with the comics.
Completely agree.
So, in the comics, she has the same power as Mr Fantastic?
@@jackandjill6419 more like mr fantastic + hulk + ant-man
@@davidb4516 Maybe add Mystique to that list too.
@@jackandjill6419 She can also do stuff Fantastic can't, like grow gigantic and shape shift into people, but otherwise very similar
Feige said about Avengercon based on an article: As for whether there will be an actual Avengers-focused convention, Feige hinted it’s already in the works. “There might be a few places you can go and visit the Ms. Marvel version of AvengerCon,” he said.
If the rest of the show is as good as the first episode, this is gonna be the best show yet of the Disney Plus MCU bunch.
right????
It’s gonna be hard to top Loki, but it’s definitely top tier
😂😂 first episode was good , is this your taste , pity on you and this shitty series
bruh what are you smoking
Awesome first episode. I'm loving this series was inspired by the John Hughes's films, 10 Things I Hate You(1999), Lady Bird(2017), Eight Grade(2018), Booksmart(2019), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World(2010), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse(2018), and Parker Lewis Can't Lose(1990-1993). Kamala Khan fan since 2014. The music and visuals in this series are marvelous. The cinematography in this show is amazing. Iman Vellani was the perfect casting for Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel.
Parker Lewis lol I used to love that and yes one of the reasons why was bc of my name
Heads up, the actress who plays Auntie Ruby from the clothing store scene is Anjali Bhimani. She voices the Head Cleric of the Everlight in Legend of Vox Machina, and has been in several shows on Critical Role's channel.
and Rampart in Apex Legends
Anjali is a treasure! Love her in CR's one-shots!
I've always loved Marvel !! Their stories, castings, characters, everything !! But as a Muslim Moroccan woman, I've never felt more represented in my life !! And it makes me so happy to know that the directors of the series are originally from Morocco 🇲🇦!! I loved this episode so much and I can't wait for the rest !!!!
It was better than I was expecting it to be. As an older guy, the way they portrayed her imagination thru animation and her drawings bought me straight back to my own childhood fantasizing and drawing. This is my second favorite - 1st episode on Disney Plus besides "What If...?"
“Can y’all get the f*ck out the way, so she can get to her locker?!”
That was my reaction as well!!!
I like the fact that they are trying something different with the show. For me it feels fresh and fun. Sure it’s aimed at a younger audience, but like you I’m totally fine with that. The lead actress just sells it for me. She’s so incredibly likeable. Saw an interview with her on Jimmy Kimmel, and that made me like her even more. She’s so incredibly down to Earth and has a natural charm and enthusiasm. And if you hear how she got the part and how much she’s like her character herself….it’s simply perfect casting. Great reaction as always guys! :)
Its definitely towards kids but I actually enjoyed it its Marvel so you know its a W.
I would say teenagers, like 14 years old but it's wholesome and charming.
Also has some great cinematography and editing
I'm 21 years old and this episode is the best first episode of any MCU show, in my opinion
@@abbeyBominable123 Honestly, same here, bro, same
see.... 'target audience' is just an excuse....what that matters is A GOOD STORYTELLING. This was such a breath of fresh air after the heartbreaking obi wan episode :)
I went into this with an open mind knowing it was gonna be different than the other MCU shows, but I genuinely liked it a lot more than I was expecting! And great catch by Joe noticing the cop from Spider-Man!
This is the first MCU show that my whole family is interested in
16:26 LMAOOOO THE "OH-" WHEN SHE GOT HIT BY THE HAMMER
the director was in their bag just having so much fun with the shots and backgrounds
love this show, i totally identify with it.
I knew coming in to the show it was for a younger audience so I had minimal expectations on it but it was actually really good and really excited to see where it goes!!
Great reaction guys. I don't know too much about Ms. Marvel myself all I know is who she is from the Avengers video game. It does seem like they've changed how she got her powers. This episode was pretty good I like the style of the episode. I just love how Marvel is bringing so much diversity to the universe. It personally doesn't bother me either that this show is aiming more towards younger audience. I will watch anything Marvel related and I will even watch the Marvel shows that had bad reviews ***coughs*** Morbius lol.
I loved this, she's going to be in the Marvels, though. Can't wait.
this show and its cast are a delight. I loved this episode and the soundtrack was amazing.
The only thing I didn't like was Kamala hurt her precious father's feelings.
Daddy-Khan's Hulk costume was awesome! Apologies to your Father, Kamala!
True she hurt his heart but to be fare I wouldn’t want my dad there at my first Avengers Con either but then again he looks like he would’ve been lost in the excitement of it all and had a blast along with his daughter.
The Hulk costume did look good on him and he did look like he was excited to go.
It was genuinely sad (and she said later, "I think I made my Abu cry," so she felt it too). But it was so accurate to teenage/parent interactions. I love her parents in the show, and I feel them, and I know why she needs to do her own thing. So, it felt wrong but in the right way.
"There's no big Hulk, little Hulk." Well, just wait a few months Kamala, she's coming.
Gotta admit, was pleasantly surprised. Fresh show, acting on point. She makes an awesome Ms Marvel, I'm totally onboard.
The origin had to be changed because she’s a inhuman and we fucked that up royal. As for the power set I love it the fractals look soooo cool and I love the editing style specifically the texting her and her tech guy were doing.
I don’t like the change with the powers but the emotional core of the character is just as perfect as the comics
This episode is pretty good I give it 8/10 I definitely can relate to the character. Can’t wait for next week. Marvel is unstoppable
Well said. Very likeable. I kno she hasnt been an actor so she kind of comes off as normal kid. Feels natural. Based on comments they be nailing the culture also. Throw in sum Edgar Wright vibes...yeah, this is cool.
Powers are definitely reimagined being her comic origin and powers are based her inguman genetic heritage and acquisition of her powers by terragin mist. Like Quake, Daisy Johnson Agents of S.h.i.e.l.d.
5:22 he tries to get up from his seat to see what is inside the box 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
yo, when Drew said his mom turned into Thor with the belt glowing in her hand, I was done. lol
when Kamala dipped into the other realm, i think of that as her baptism of sorts. also, hearing all the music and seeing the cricket on the screen, the vibe of it , i LOVE IT!
16:26 This reaction alone deserves all the likes u can get 🤣🤣🤣 golden
I just died laughing at your faces when she got whacked by the hammer 😂
Guys hey, the guy playing the friend Bruno was Henry in TWD.
In the comics, she gets her stretching or embiggening powers through Terrigen Mists. Here it's a bracelet giving her Hard Light powers, basically constructs made of light (photons) which can be touched or interacted with. Possibly changed because Mr. Fantastic hasn't been introduced yet properly. There is a theory that it's alien tech (possibly Kree). I'll bet it will be explained in future episodes.
With this show, Marvel changed how she got her powers and what those powers are. In the comic book run the show is based off of, she got her powers when she interacted with terragen mist. This means she is an inhuman like Black Bolt. When she emerged from the mist, she shape-shifted into an earlier version of captain marvel which gave her the name Ms. Marvel. She can shape-shift/stretch in the comics. It seems like the powers in the show resembles the green lanterns. She creates projections.
They made her Quasar.
Lol I’ve never heard a energy construct called a projection before but yeah plus quasar. I like it
@@lizd2943 Currently, half a Quasar.
So in the comic books, Ms Marvel gets her power from a break in one of the cannisters of terrigan mist. The inhumans space planet is hovering above new york and the gas leak goes to jersey city and affects her and giver powers to stretch her body parts or her whole body to any size. Basically she calls it "embiggin" and "emshorten" to these abilities. Embiggin makes her big or parts of her body like her fists. But the story here is done better than the comics as the inhumans aren't introduced fully in the main universe. In the comics her brother also gets a power and the parents learn about her powers too and help her design the final costume she has.
In the comics she's an Inhuman and she has shape-changing, growth and stretching abilities.
There was a world-wide event that caused a lot of people with dormant Inhuman genes to become full-fledged powered Inhumans and she was one of them.
In show they're giving her more cosmic-type powers, and I think the armlet might be a Quantum Band but it's a little different from the depiction of the item in comics, notably because they always come in pairs and there's only the one in the show.
Since you say you dont know the comics much I can reassure you that they NAIL the characters and feel of the books. Iman is perfect as are the actors who portray her family.
I don't know a ton about Ms Marvel, but the major difference in this series is that the power comes from that bracelet for sure, whereas in the comics and the game(?) she's a shapechanger kind of super, got her power from Inhumans something something from terrigen mist. I feel it's a bit of a cop out to just change power sources like that, but uh... they certainly did drop the ball with Inhumans to begin with so they probably wanted to just sweep all that under the rug anyway.
In the comics her powers are similar to Mr. Fantastic so they had to change it in the MCU, cause we are going to have a Fantastic Four movie in the future.
Every MCU character has had their origin stories and/or their powers changed. It's a pretty bad take to act like this change (which seems mostly a way to adapt it to the small screen) is the one and only change that the MCU has done which ruins a character.
I continue to like how the MCU understands the characters they're working with but are telling slightly new stories. It's a very fine line that means comic fans can enjoy new stories and non comic fans still get to learn about the important parts of the characters. Most MCU fans I know haven't read comics but I can still have really great conversations about the characters that aren't entirely dissimilar to the nerd talks I've had with comic fans. People know who Tony Stark is and why he would disagree with Steve Rogers without a single comic. Yeah this is changed from the comics but so far you still can understand who she is as a character.
In the comic book version of Ms. Marvel, she had the Kree embedded genes that were activated by the Terrigen Mist giving her her powers. They were similar to Reed Richards stretch powers, but were more specific that she could make parts of her body larger. So stretching her arm and making her hand huge was an homage to her comic book powers. In this series, they obviously make it so she gains her powers by wearing an alien object that has "cosmic" powers. That cosmic connection will be the reason she'll be joining Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau in "The Marvels" movie.
Yep, it is what it is. Many characters who Powers came from objects I dislike because they could lose their power if they lost the object. Just think if Wonder woman powers came from her braces. But it probably more about Kamala Khan than the powers she will. The girl and her family is perfectly casted they show and represent the Arabic community- culturally thumbs up.
The little dimensional flip thing when she puts the cuff on makes me think it's a Kree Nega-Band, previously used by some Captain Marvels in the comics
For a first episode it’s dope. Doesn’t tell you too much but tells you enough to keep you hooked
"That's why I spent my life in movie theater" WORD.
Great pilot! Great actors! Great representation! Great show thus far!
her powers are different in the comic, but i like where this is going.
zach braff scrubs style.... my man is cultured!
Really fun first episode - colorful, cool direction, etc. and characters/ actors are so charming and likable - and of course - as a South Asian - it adds special extra bonus points for me personally
*Only the first episode, but already it's better than their other shows. Fantastic.*
I'm brand new to the character and I love the show! I know the premise of the comic character and I think they're presenting it just right.
In the comics, she is an inhuman. She has powers too similar to mr fantastic (stretch powers). So there are just making space for the two of them. Here her powers are closer to Green Lantern.
I loved the first episode!
Speaking as a middle age, white guy, at least three of the seven Disney + shows, have been directed towards me. So I’m good. Now it’s time for someone else to be represented. I’m grateful to see other folks get their moment in the sun. If this shows continues on this trajectory; she’s going to be a fan favorite. More importantly, To a lot of young, brown women, they’re going to feel like THEY belong in this community, as well.
I’m rockin with the show! 🔥🔥🔥
I'm really enjoyed this first episode the actress playing Kamala is really good I like the camera work in this episode as well
Loved this first episode
I know about the character and there are differences but I think that it's too early to know exactly how much her origin has changed. Also I love almost everything about this show. The only problem is I have never seen a bus in Jersey City take a bike.
Power wise, in the book she's an Inhuman, and her powers are similar to Reed Richards; except she can boost her strength for short times, and she got her powers from the global Terrigen mist spread.
Interested to hear about Nonni's bangle.
They changed a bunch of stuff from the comics, but it's okay. She had powers more in line with Me. Fantastic and she was caught up in a terrigen bomb and that's how she got her powers. She's got inhuman dna.
Very refreshing....loved it...
I was pleasantly surprised with the 1st episode. I liked it even though its geared towards kids and i'm in my mid 40's. Looking forward to the next episode.

What a great show! Great reaction as well
The ice cream machine and milkshake machines in Mcdonalds are never broken. It's just they have to clean it after each batch, and they don't want to. McDonald's head office wouldn't like that though... they losing money.
First ep was way better than I expected. I hope they do what they did with Peter in HC. Fan becomes gets powers, learns responsibilities of it being a hero, becomes hero
It was pretty good I got a Scott Pilgrim meets Spiderman vibe.
Really liked the episode and reaction just to let you know Ms Marvel originally got powers through the INHUMAN mist can't wait for the next episode 🤙🤙🤙
I love this episode but can’t wait for the next episode 🥺🔥
loved it it's everything i wanted it to be and more!
Agree w y’all this show is probably gonna be so good
Yes they changed a great deal about Kamala for the show. In comics Kamala is an Inhuman and her powers are similar to Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, with stretchy powers and size shifting but there's also some shape shifting ability along with a fast healing factor like Wolverine's. They changed her for the show I suppose in order to make her different from Reed, who will be appearing in the MCU in a couple of years, give or take.
Also because, due to the ABC show, any mention of the word "Inhuman" sends the Marvel Studios staff running away screaming in panic.
The bracelet is new to her character. She's actually an inhuman and I think she has the ability to stretch and enlarge herself. Someone had a cool theory, they thought the bracelet could be as old as the ten rings and that's interesting! I have a feeling that she'll eventually get her actual powers possibly from the radiation caused by the bracelet. I believe in the books, she gets her powers from Teregen (however you spell that) Mist. Same as Black Bolt.
I’ve heard that they changed her powers because they were too similar to Mr Fantastic’s. They might yet go the Inhuman route We will see
Her origin couldn't really work in the mcu yet because it involved a bunch of bananas stuff that was going on with the inhumans. I think she is still inhuman, just instead of being exposed because of a bunch of terrigen bombs, the terrigen that unlocks her powers is in her nani's bengal.
It was like watching an episode of the thundermans or Henry danger on Nickelodeon.
They changed how she got her powers and changed her powers itself but honestly it don’t seem that bad so far. Guess they wanted her to be a little more connected Carol Danvers cosmic look plus Reed already gonna come in with his abilities.
That cop at the end is a Skrull. Calling it now.
He is same cop who arrested Peter Parker in no way home and questioned ned and Michelle
I thought it was cool. If you remember the Avengers game, similar character. I believe they slightly changed her powers and how she got it because of people like Fantastic 4's Reed Richards coming to MCU soon. Powers almost similar in looks.
Bruno looks like Spider-Man!
Nakia (Black Panther) commented on her video!!!!
Just commenting on why some people were upset: it was less HOW Kamala gets her powers and more WHAT her powers are. Because in the comics she can stretch, shape shift, and change size, but apparently Marvel Studios wanted to make her different from Mr. Fantastic. And the reason people were angry about this was Ms. Marvel’s creators didn’t want her power to be pretty or sparkly. There’s an element of body horror and awkwardness to Kamala’s powers because they’re a metaphor for growing pains and trying to feel comfortable in your own skin. At least that’s my observation. Love your channel, guys :)
this is true. in the comics, one of the first times that she used her powers, she morphed into Captian Marvel whenever she tried to be hero since this was her idea of a superhero - a white women pretty much but later, Kamala that it was okay to be herself in her own skin, a great young pakistani muslim girl superhero. this is why find her intial powers to be key to her character rather than green latern shit
@@finnaebu689
I suspect her powers will evolve throughout the series, though.
@@finnaebu689 you realize the bangle could be a Kree band as in a tie to the Inhumans right? Her grandmother obviously had superpowers and the mom being overtly concerned about Kamala finding it, was a huge red flag.
She went to their version of the ancestral plane in Pakistan, it seemed when she activated it at the event. So this means that's a cosmic reality realm and her ancestors maybe part Kree/Inhuman. Carol Denvers is obviously gonna show up at the end of the season to setup "The Marvels".
I love that the actress who play ms marvel is a marvel fan in real life
I think the way she is using her powers is fine I don’t understand if the bracelet unlocked her inhuman abilities or did they change her from being an inhuman. As always, I enjoyed your reactions brothers… the struggle is real.
There are similarities to Shazam and that’s ironic since his true name is Captain Marvel and the wizard’s name was Shazam. The Marvel comics lawsuit changes that unfortunately. It was just a cool comparison M-Dogg. I look forward to the Marvels.
