Favorite moment from all three movies is when they first see the Brachiosaurus at the beginning of the first movie. It really captures the essence of what John Hammond was attempting to do, even if he didn’t fully understand what he was getting himself into. It’s such an amazing concept and really points out the greed of humanity and how, even though we try, we cannot control everything.

Fun Fact: that nightmare Dr Grant has about the Velociraptor calling him Alan is actually foreshadowed by the earlier scene of him trying to get Ellie’s pet bird to say his name just before they had their conversation about raptor intelligence and vocalisation.

The Spinosaurus in this movie is called Asset 87, and was hyper aggressive as a side effect of the augmentations it received in its creation, which was practice for creating the hybrid experiments that come later. Its still alive in the canon and has grown even larger. This movie is responsible for my love of the Spinosaurus, but my favorite scene in the franchise is the first Rex encounter from the original film.

With Giganotosaurus Carolinii (lit. Carolini's Giant Southern Lizard) being the tallest, but recent studies shown that one of its cousins, Carcharodontosaurus Saharicus (Lit. Nice!
I saw this in the theater with my parents and we loved it!
This was the final chapter in the JURASSIC PARK series, until 2015, JURASSIC WORLD was released.
This film has some problems behind the scenes as Joe Johnston, director of the movie, hated the original script, calling it "a bad episode of FRIENDS" as it was going to involve teenagers getting stranded on Isla Sorna following a plane crash. They encounter a strange hermit living in a treehouse, who turns out to be Alan Grant, having snuck onto the island to study the dinosaurs in their natural habitat.
The T.Rex animatronic had its head torn off by the Spinosaurus during a fight scene that was filmed but cut from the movie, yet parts can be seen in the trailer.
Filming had begun before a script was even finished.
It took 9 months to film the movie, which gave the VFX artists plenty of time to create the CGI dinosaurs.
The film was a box office success making, $369 million dollars against a $90 million dollar budget.
It received mostly negative reviews from critics, yet Roger Ebert called it the best in the series.

Later material would explain that after the events of TLW the Masrani Corporation would buy out Ingen and Masrani had a team of scientists and researchers go to Isla Sorna to conduct research on ways to better extract and clone genetic material. All of the new dinosaurs (Spinosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Corythosaurus, Ceratosaurus, and the new Pteranodons and Velociraptors) were created and experimented on during the eight months the Masrani team was there. After they were finished they simply let the animals loose and left, which caused a severe ecological change to the island. The Spinosaurus especially remembered all of the testing done on it and had a hatred for humans, which is why it was so determined to kill the characters.
Behind the scenes, the movie had a very troubled production. They went through so many ideas and scripts that changes to the script were still being done during filming, which is why there's a lot of haphazard scenes and things that are brought up then dropped almost immediately, one of the big ones being what killed the boat drivers in the beginning.

Paul Kirby originally was Paul Roby an actual millionaire who neglects his child a bit too often. So he takes him on a fly around to Isla Sorna and invites Grant & Billy (so they get funded). Paul doesn't have a wife (she died a few years before) but he takes his girlfriend Susan along. Cooper is the bodyguard who is basically the kid's best friend... the kid was called Miles (later changed to Eric).
While they get stranded on Isla Sorna there is a decision made to bomb the island since attacks on the mainland by Pteranodons are getting out of hand (the movie opened with this)... so that starts a race against the clock.
The Spinosaurus (or Baryonyx I dont remember) goes after the group because the group killed one of the young.
The script was a bit edgier. Susan gets killed.

With how much this film dedicated itself to using animatronics in it's dino sequences as often as possible makes it a huge achievement. The spinosaurus in his two big sequences with the plane and the boat are still so impressive to me as so much of that was a full sized animatronic, the clever uses of raptor animatronics as well particularly the scene with Udeski getting pinned down with the claw in his back was a great way of getting that animatronic to interact with an actor in the scene. The human stuff was generally mid, but the time dinos were on screen was what elevates this film.

A UA-camr called Klayton Fioriti, who focuses on this franchise, made a video talking about why the Spino was so relentless. If I remember correctly, there was a version of the script in which the mercenaries encountered and were attacked by baby Spinosaurs. They killed the babies, which enraged the parent(s) into attacking them. I believe they also killed one of the adults leaving this last one as the big baddie. Just to note, panicking people ARE incompetent, no matter the training. As soon as they start panicking, it goes out the window.
For example the training soldiers go through is all about repetition, making sure everything they learn they can do even whilst panicking and the other half of training is raising the trainees' stress tolerance so they can stay competent as long as needed to stay alive.
Still even soldiers have their limits for example those soldiers who can shoot 8-10/10 on the range miss most of their shots during combat, it's because of several psychological effects, not just stress.
Funnily enough average people running around screaming like headless chicken is the most realistic part of these films.

The problem with this film is that they began shooting it with a story that was constructed 5 weeks before. Despite coming up with the final idea for Jurassic Park III, David Koepp had no involvement in the film. Steven Spielberg was also not present as an on-set as executive producer. Johnston decided to break up Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) because he didn't see them as a couple. A final draft of the screenplay was never completed during production and Johnston stated that they "had no document". They would only shoot the pages they had on the day or as far as a week in advance. Johnston also said the joke on the set was that a completed final screenplay would be the wrap gift for the cast and crew. Unsurprisingly, Jurassic Park III was a difficult shoot. Johnston admitted that making the film was "a living hell on a daily basis". The director found shooting without a finished script "nerve-wracking, but it was also a way of freeing up the whole creative process. We could literally decide on the day how we wanted a scene to progress." William H. Macy was vocal about his displeasure with the production, stating, "Who launched a $100 million ship without a rudder, and who's getting fired for this?' But that's the way it goes... I think someone should be shot, but I'm not in charge." While Jurassic Park III lacks the magic of Spielberg's original, the film does have its fans who enjoy it as a straightforward thrill ride.

The ceratosaurus (red one with the nose horn) didn't want to eat them because they were covered in shit. Either that or it couldn't smell them.
Also the "flying ones" were pteranodon, a type of pterosaur. "Pterodactyl" isn't an actual thing, but there was one called "pterodactylus" but that only had like a 3-4 foot wingspan. "Pterosaur" is the group that includes both of them, like how "bird" includes a bunch of different types and groups. Pterosaurs were a wide and diverse group. And they were NOT dinosaurs, the same way that alligators and snakes are not dinosaurs. But- a fun fact- birds ARE dinosaurs, so funnily enough there are flying dinosaurs and they're still around. In the original Jurassic park Novel By Michael Crichton, Tim asks Alan about his relationship with Allie to which Alan responds that Allie is his apprentice who will be getting married to a doctor next year . Alan also mentioned upon further inquiry from Tim that his wife died a long time ago . i guess that info somehow loosely came along in the movie version .

I honestly didn’t like the dig at Ian, He was the first one who not only called out what was wrong about the park but also WHY it was wrong and WHO was wrong, He may come off as the extravagant ladies man but he’s the one who went through this two times over and has every right to be “Preachy”.
What they were doing was wrong and he’s apart of the reason Hammond turned into the man we see in Lost World.

    • @nimrodmcduffey6358
      @nimrodmcduffey6358 4 місяці тому +11

But…it IS preachy. Especially when you realize a lot of his lines are factually and provably WRONG. An example being when he says “ You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could.” Literally EVERY modern advancement was because we stood on the shoulders of others and took the next step. Are the people who build trains and cars NOT supposed to stand on the shoulders of the people who invented the wheel? Another example: “ what you call discovery, I call the rape of the natural world.” So what, don’t discover new things and don’t make progress? He also keeps making nature out to be some omnipotent god who CHOSE dinosaurs to go extinct. NO! Nature is not sentient and did not intentionally crash an asteroid into itself! All of these lines are obviously Crichton anti-science lines that I wish were cut. Anyway, that’s why I think Erik was justified in calling Malcom preachy and full of himself. Because he IS because Crichton wrote him to be that way.

Fact about the movie: The Spinosaurus was initially suppose to be the parents of an infant Spinosaurus(s). Cooper was seen bleeding running out of the forest, obviously from a small wound which would’ve been an infant Spinosaurus. That explains the three shots he fired. Thats why the Spinosaurus was so vengeful to hunt the humans down and kill them because they killed his infant.
This was evenually scrapped as the movie would’ve been too long.
That being said, it would’ve connected the three parties, the Kirby’s, the Raptors, and the Spinosaurus with the theme of family
Another Fact is the Spinosaurus was suppose to die at the end when Allen blows the raptor call during the river scene. There the dozens of raptors were supposed to kill the Spinosaurus while the crew escaped.
The filming of JP3 was atrocious and lots of rewrites occurred due to the project being switched from person to person.

A lot of people are under the belief that the Spinosaurus was responsible for attacking the boat at the start of the film, but this isn't the case. It was supposed to have been revealed to have been the Pteranodons (we first see them in this film emerging from the fog, just like the fog the boat sailed into) but the scene where Grant and the Kirbys find that boat wreck wasn't filmed but it would have included a line where Grant warns them "They are in the trees!" after examining the wreck. A lot of people think the Pteranodons were all locked inside the aviary, at least until Amanda left the gate unlocked, but don't forget we see some wild flying ones at the end of The Lost World. Did you guys see the skull that Eric throws at the hatchlings? That *could* have been either that of Enrique (the boat captain) or his helmsman, which suggests a terrifying thought- that the pair were not killed in the attack, that they were merely snatched from the moving boat and dropped off in the nest for food for their infants, meaning they both could have literally been eaten alive by dozens of little vicious beaks. That dinosaur that approaches them when they find the phone in the dung as well was a Ceratosaurus, one of the four illegally cloned species which violated the Gene Guard Act which was brought on by the San Diego Incident. Those species were the Spinosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Corythosaurus (seen in the stampede alongside Parasaurolophus) and Ankylosaurus, seen twice in this film. Looking forward to the Jurassic World reaction! 😃

17:06 Just a heads up, the T-Rex that died in this movie was not the baby nor the dad from the second movie. It's an entirely different T-Rex which… Is confusing but convenient that there was a third adult Tyrannosaurus rex, but that doesn't mean I'm not upset about that even if it wasn't the same T-Rex, I'm still mad they killed him off like that.
    😮

I really like that you guys touch on the music of this film, Don Davis composed this, he also composed the Matrix films, because John Williams was busy with Harry Potter at the time I believe, on top of not wanting to return I think, he personally vouched for Davis to take over, and I'm glad he did, there's so much nuance he adds to this movie, from the nods to the original movies themes as long with adding his own and keeping in with the tone of the trilogy
Also just overall I appreciate how into the movie you guys were, not just to be a typical reaction video but actively engaging with the plot and commenting on the overall design of the movie, the cgi, practical effects, acting, writing, music etc... things not all reactors tend to pay attention to, it's refreshing to see
