Disney has been making animated feature films since 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In the decades that followed, we’ve come to expect specific things from the latest Disney movie. A great story, compelling songs, and interesting characters are a given. And so are beautiful and immersive visuals. In order to ensure their films’ characters are as visually compelling as possible, Disney starts with concept art. Through the creative process, the visual design of a movie’s characters inevitably evolve. Still, it’s fascinating to look back at where the film’s artists started when it comes to characters like Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent, Aladdin’s Jasmine, and Beauty and the Beast’s Beast. There are often huge differences between the original character concept art and what those characters look like in the final film. In this video, we’re exploring how beloved characters like Elsa from Frozen, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and Scar from The Lion King would have looked if animators had gone with the character designs in their concept art. I actually love the concept art for her, except the color!! That horrendous pink needed to go!! Her outfit was way more authentic looking. Her actual look makes her look like a concubine to be honest. Shes gorgeous either way tho.

Misleading title. These are Disney's original concept art, not what they were supposed to look like. Most of these stories (maybe all) predate Disney, so the concept art has no bearing on what they are "supposed" to look like.

I honestly prefer Jasmine's pink outfit that covers her stomach. I do agree that the color choice was anything but perfect, but I like the idea of it matching the culture more. It's still elegant and form-fitting, and it probably would've looked lovely in the blueish-green of her final outfit, but I personally feel like the more covered up look suits her and the setting better. Just my opinion I guess but I thought it'd be fun to share

Hey_its_me 123 John Waters movie Pink Flamingos features the drag queen Divine, who inspired the character also called Divine. Real weird and funny. I’d say the screen play is better than the film, by a mile.

One of the pieces of concept art for Ursula was her as a very tall thin manta with huge fins, much like “Manta” from “The Little Mermaid” tv show
I just realized this whole azshara + nzoth thing is basically the little mermaid. Her ship sinks she almost drowns, she gets saved by Nzoth.. becomes a fish lady...lives underwater in an entire kingdom that's incredibly hostile to surface dwellers/outsiders. She's like ariel and ursula mixed together. xD

Personally I would have liked Frozen much more if Elsa had become the villain in the end. It would have been the first time an actual heroine would evolve into a villain and perhaps back into heroine if she has a full redemption. The story as it was now was a little bit more "child-friendly" like the usual classics of Disney even if it had some nice scenes and potential. It just wasn't the same anymore...
On the other hand I kinda disagree with the concept of "wouldn't interpret Let it Go that way" because if she was Anna's sister and she still became the villain, that would be amazing. I would personally interpret it that when she sings "Let it Go" moves from the scared girl she was, isolated from everyone and everything, locked up in her own fears to a woman who finds independency and finally to a villainess that simply doesn't care anymore because the world failed her and so she doesn't care for the world anymore. Especially the final "Let the storm rage on" she sings, could as well be a perfect catchphrase for a villain, like "now I am no longer afraid, I don't care of anything anymore".
If that was the case, that would have become much more powerful scenario and it would have made a more powerful reunion between Anna and Elsa instead of the thing I saw (like I said it is not that Frozen is a horrible movie, on the contrary, but just not the same anymore as old Disney). It would have made the first time a heroine would make a total turn and become a villain and that on screen. That would have been one of the most powerful scenes that we see in a long time and "Let it Go" would have made much more impact to me. Personally I feel a bit sorry that they abandoned the Evil Elsa concept altogether. I really liked it that in the end they decided not to make her villain from the very begining but I feel sorry they abandoned the idea completely. I would feel much more thrilled if she had become a villain during the "Let it Go" song.

In the end when Aerial returns to the sea to die was Hans giving up the man he loves, and giving a reluctant "blessing" for that man to marry a woman (who is the black haired woman).

Fun Fact in the Original concept for the Lion King Scar was supposed to be a Baboon and the story revolved around a war between the Lions and the Baboons but was later changed to the story we know and love today

Having actually watched Leo the Jungle Emperor, which was the english title of the the Kimbo movie, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the story, plot, and setting were extremely different. Particularly because the inclusion of humans greatly changing the overall themes.
Now it is possible that there might be a few more visual similarities in the Kemba TV series, maybe even a couple of characters you can compare, but overall from what I've lived in two there are still far more differences in there are similarities.

Why the misleading title and misleading picture? This isn’t what they were “supposed to look like”; this is (as you, yourself explain in the video) original concept art. When you tackled Ariel, that image is nowhere in the video. Furthermore, that image was never part of the original concept art.

Disney's vision for female characters: take unique concept art and make characters younger, prettier, less independent, very few flaws and much more "sweet and likable." The initial idea for Jasmine and Ariel seemed much more interesting than the barbie dolls we got. And I say this as a huge fan of those movies.

I believe the inspiration for Ursula's exaggerated makeup, how high her eyebrows are, and her overall figure was inspired by Godiva Divine. I could be wrong but that's what I was told. But I mean aesthetically, I'd totally believe it without any question.

It's true. How and when this eventually happened is unknown, but it's been admitted too now. Which really does explain why they dropped the queen of hearts "as an octopus" look and went for what they did. And created the only disney villain who measures up to scar in my opinion.

Frozen is based off of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. Disney even used his name to create their characters for Frozen :)

There is one, the original story that inspired Elsa was called "The Ice Queen" She wasn't called Elsa, she was just called the "ice queen" but in the story, she kidnapped kids and would freeze them into ice by blowing kisses. I don't remember the full story, but you can find it on google ❤

Sarah Hodges, some of them look better than the original one, in my opinion. Cuz to me, some of the originals look kinda bland, maybe it’s cuz I’ve watched the Disney films like a 100 times or something, so I got bored with the designs
