Thanks for sharing your Legacy Box experience, THF! I've got 10 VHS videos I want to have converted, but would like to understand more about the conversion process, risk(s), processing time, etc - and your UA-cam helped greatly in this regard.
Vwestlife had pretty opposite experience with this service. It might be better to do it yourself if you have playback equipment still working and cheap analog video capture device with decent chipset.
After trying the service, I think I would do it myself if I had the equipment. Legacy Box offered nothing other than the transfer to digital. They did not cleanup. The main reason I used them was that I had some PAL format tapes that I needed converted and I didn't have access to any PAL equipment.
@@thistlehillfarmstead9131 I'd love to see a MediaInfo report on the files Legacybox sent you, to check if they're still using bitrates below what they advertise, interlaced instead of progressive, and that weird variable frame rate that can cause problems with video/audio synch when editing.
My adult daughter recommended Legacy because she sent off lots of videos and had them converted to a digital format then uploaded them to a private UA-cam channel. I have really enjoyed watching the videos. She convinced me to do the same. I'm not at all tech savvy but requested my videos, including some 35mm films, to be returned in the same format. IF it all works out, I'll be able to declutter a few Rubbermaid totes full of VHS tapes PLUS an old TV that had the built-in VHS player. Anyone remember those? LOL
@@itsfotoula My experience with Legacy box went great. The only thing I would do differently would be to pay the extra $ to have the videos put on a thumb drive for me, instead of them being stored on Legacy's website and me having to download them myself and then putting them on a thumb drive. That was my mistake. I would highly recommend Legacy box. 🙂
Glad everything turned out good. I've been digitizing old concerts I recorded on VHS and 8mm, and uploading to my YoutTube channel. My 8mm camcorder stopped working, so I was thinking of figuring out how many more 8mm tapes I have to go through and see if it's cheaper to do this method or maybe get an old working 8mm camcorder off ebay and finish up.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with Legacy Box with us. Totally agree with you about the 50% off coupon and how companies like this blow up your celll phone, once they have your business. Appreciate your review on the product.
@@thistlehillfarmstead9131 According to their contract terms, the minimum should just be a "We can't play" sticker. As a television technician from Hamburg (Germany), I don't care.
Yes, I would probably do something different next time. The only reason I used them was because I had some PAL format video. I have now found an old VCR and purchased a little converter which plugs into the USB port on my computer and does the same.
@@thistlehillfarmstead9131 don't trow away the tape they said is unreadable. I have never used Legacy Box, but a youtuber I follow, Phil from GotMemories (a film conversion place in Phoenix) has reviewed legacy box. Often the red stickers are due to worn out and dirty machines at legacy box, and not due to a problem with the tape, so another place might be able to convert that tape
Phil of got memories is great. I also transfer videos and films, and I redo a bunch of these big box companies' tapes and films. They are not good at transferring media.
hi i am in the audio video game i know they do not check the tapes they run a lotto when moving files i know they get alot of bad feed back the pal is better than what they use in the usa
I CHARGED BACK for all my money - Legacy Box didn't even respond to my complaint. So I got all my money back after waiting 3 weeks.
That's lucky, in some cases Legacy Box will fight the banks to keep the money and screw over their customer.

If you haven't ordered yet, check out other videos about their quality etc. I already ordered and have the box unfortunately.
@@JacobPatrick1 You really wouldn't be the first to not send the box.
Scam

It’s called a VCR not “VHS Player”
did it come with audio in the convertion usb?
Yes it did

Very cool!
You should also consider how much you will get back when you sell the camcorder.
Good video

I sent them 20 VHS tapes in December / I hope to get good luck also
Fingers crossed!
Your experience/quality?

I'm confused. Do Legacy conversions of Super 8 film to digital include sound or not? The Legacy FAQ says no, the comments here say yes.
I'm not sure. They tapes I sent were VHS and Mini Hi8 tapes. I did get audio back on those.
just placed my order. wished i read reviews first before buying. getting kind of nervous but seeing your videos has giving me a little reassurance.
They do the minimum. What is on the tapes is what you get back. no post processing to improve quality

Do they create different folders per tape? Or are they just stitching it all up under 1 file?
There is a different file for each tape.

I'm sure people have different experiences. This was mine and it was not bad. I made the video so people could know what to expect.
