Im sure they would love that so much! The crew members work hard to make cruises amazing and its so nice to know that they are appreciated!! I love the Wonder by the way!
Its worse on your back then your hands funny enough! You are very welcome! Congrats and good luck on your contract! Thank you for watching and supporting!
They give us other things to do when the shops are closed to meet our 70 hours. But as a boutique worker, we can sell a service because it doesn't count as a product! So its not breaking any merit time laws!
This is such a great video - if you see this comment I just wondered if I could ask you about food. You mentioned that you don’t do the ‘normal’ stuff like travelling to work/grocery shopping etc. (That’s such a good tip to put the hours into perspective!) so when you have your breaks, where and what can you eat? 😊 I guess there are cast member only areas of course? can you always get good food and drink there? thank you!
Yes there is a crew mess! Its a buffet line where everyone can go to eat! Keep in mind disney caters to a wide range of crew members so there are plenty of..... interesting options. Lots and lots of rice. Lots. Of. Rice.
Did they pay you a weekly salary or by the hour? Did you know you would be working 70 hours a week or was it a surprise? What did you have to pay for? Snacks? WiFi? Food? Laundry? Thanks for insight into the cruise business. It’s very rare to meet an American working on a cruise ship.
@@TeenG Thank you for sharing. Life of a Cruise ship worker is fairly hidden so I really appreciate your honesty and hard work to share your experiences. I wonder if you and others could've lasted longer if only some things were changed or modified. Would things like free high speed wifi, better designed efficient crew mess, more food variety, fresh veggies/fruits, colors/artwork virtual port holes/outside views in crew areas, etc have helped any? I bet you can't eat white rice anymore without thinking of cruise ship. Do you have any ideas that Disney could've improved to change your decision to leave? I wonder if the freedoms and opportunities we have as americans just spoil us for working on a cruise ship... any thoughts?
Wow that schedule doesn’t sound fun... I worked as a shop attendant for a different cruise line and we didn’t work while the ship was in port, plus we had 2 nights off and 1 “loading day” off per month... and even with that we were exhausted because of the long hours we had to work during sea days... ship’s life isn’t for everyone, right now I’m taking a good break from it. Btw I love your videos ❤️ xoxo
I feel like on most other cruise lines shops don't work at all when they are in port. 1 loading day per month!!! Omg what a dream!! Thank you so much for watching and supporting!
Hey there! Just applied for this job today (job posting was 3 days ago) and was wondering how long the job application process took? I believe I am well qualified and have a cosmetology degree. Loved how informational this video was!
Caitlin Robinson Hey! Good luck!! I was contacted 3 days later for additional information, and had my skype interview 1 week from applying and found out i got the job during the call!
From what you know, what is a day like for performers? You may not know but I thought I would ask lol. I embark in July as an entertainment cast member and I just wanna know all I can!
Hey, thank you for all the info!! I'm not sure if I missed this but I don't think you mentioned Sunday? Do you get Sunday's off or are you working all day then? Do you ever get days off and can you ever get off the ship when you're working? I was told in my interview that it would be 70 hour weeks and I've got past the interview stage of hiring so now need to upload my documents but I'm wondering how hard it is and whether you actually ever get days off?
No, you work every single day during your contract! You can get off the ship when you are working. For example, if we were in Port and Nassau and I didn’t start work until 1 PM I would have the morning to be on Nassau if I wanted to.
You will not ever have a single day off though. You work every day of your contract, and then you were off for vacation which is usually around two months.
I really like your vlogs. I am a current Disney Cast Member at Disneyland. I work in the Merchandise department at Disney California Adventure. I have a few questions about working in the DCL. How hard is it to transfer from a role in the park to a role in the DCL? Also, I have a disability defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Disneyland gives me working accommodations. For example, I’m only able to work short shifts because of my disability. Will the DCL be able to accommodate those crew members with disabilities? Is your food included for free or do you have to pay for it?
Transferring from parks to cruise line is not something you can do! It kind of works like a separate company and theres a separation period between leaving parks and applying for DCL (as far as I know) And unfortunately, I highly doubt it. Because of the way the boat is run they don't really want you taking up a room if you can't work the long hard hours. Thats why on the ship you get medically debarked if you are ever sick or anything happens. So someone can take your place immediately.
I think that depending on the role you have you might not have safety duty. For example, if you need to be doing a job during that time you might not have to do it.
also, sorry for being annoying but do you know the different kind of contracts? are there any four month ones or are they only 8 months or longer? thanks!
@@Amanda-so8yj Hi actually went through the interview process for YAC. Hours are similar you work about 70 hours a week. The hours are longer though becuase kids clubs are open longer than BBB
