I find it funny how after watching that entire synopsis of the game's events and plot, I still don't know if aliens actually invaded or if it was all just a bunch of mutants with alien DNA
One of life's greatests questions lol. From what I gathered it seems aliens touched down in Iraq and brought some weird crystal thing and from there they just spread some kind of virus that infected everyone, and the US government tried to hone and craft the virus to benefit them
Been ages since I played this game but from what I remember the story basically went like this. US Gov finds alien tech and realizes its immense potential in weapons research. They perform a whole bunch of really really inhuman and barbaric experiments on their own soldiers ( who are officially MIA or KIA), homeless people, migrants etc. Something happens and the US Gov is forced to abandon the project. I believe there is mention of sealing whatever research facility with concrete but I cant precisely remember. Anyway, the experimented on test subjects survive and break out, causing all the havoc we see in the game after Iraq. Also I think all the alien creatures we see are the result of them escaping containment when the experimented on insurgents break out. Anyhow thats how I interpreted it.
The DOD did studies on if an homeland invasion occurred and the results were pretty much what we all knew. The US military wouldn't be able to stop a full invasion and would have to regroup in strategic locations. The push to remove the invasion forces would come down to the military working closely with militia forces. Meaning the DOD recognizes that the armed American citizen ultimately would be the deciding factor in America falling from an invasion or the invasion forces being removed. So while we all laugh at the NPC with a pistol in his yard, the DOD wouldn't be laughing and would he relying on Americans like that to repel an invasion.

This is one of the games my mom gifted me randomly. So story time. I'm sad to say, this was part of the trend of my mom buying me a game while she was out because she just looked at the cover, thought it was cool and gave it to me. I remember putting it into the xbox 360, dad was on the couch with me, mom was reading. The game booted up on an old black box CRT TV. We hit a dark room where the soldiers went in. And we couldn't see where the door is. Turned up the brightness, no flashlight button. We spent 30 minutes hitting walls because we couldn't find the door I had to go through and I just quit, dad put on one of his car shows and I probably grabbed my DS. The next day I tried again only for it to happen again. And mom ended up returning the game... I got out of the Army Dec 12th and 2022. Harvey nailed it on the politics and military stuff. American Soldier are literally professional disposable volunteer conscripts. For my fellow vets and currently in. I would have done my 20. I loved being a 11B so much. I'm 5'3 and only used a 240. Im glad to know that Harvey and I share similar experiences and feelings because im not alone. But at the same time it sucks that im not a rare case. Also i really thought they had Alex Jones in the game. That was too good and too believable.
2:04 "It was designed to be submersive," Indeed. A boxed copy can survive water pressure up to 300 meters and can hold it's breath for almost seven minutes.
Man I remember the first Area 51 and that was so memorable. Blacksite, while somewhat memorable to me, was one of my first gaming disappointments. It just didn't scratch that itch. If anything, I'd say X-COM: The Bureau is more in line with what I was expecting.
Excellent commentary on this somewhat under-rated Sci-Fi follow up to the original Xbox game! I have seen several old reviews of this game but none of them had the solid in-depth details nor footage of the more unique aspects of this game, very well done man! I picked this game up a few years ago but never played it, only the Xbox one which I enjoyed.
I had no idea Harvey smith was involved with this! He’s a fucking legend with deus ex and Dishonored !!!! All his work at Arkane is amazing imo. Thanks for that new bit of history!
Another video from Mr. Hammers himself that I always wait for and receive in delight. I remember this game to be weird and unusual with what it's trying to tell although having standard gameplay.
I do like this game as a side thing. The "mutations" are what the people in Area 51 were working on prior. Somehow after the Area 51 incident, technology & bioweapons got leaked to the black market & hense Iraq got their hands on some & experimenting on their own. Maybe even this militia in the US as well, they wanted to break in & get more I quess.
The nighttime gas station level is the one that was picked for the demo released on the 360. I'm pretty sure a lot more people have played that level than have actually played the game 😆
"Honestly i cant believe i just talked about this game for 45 minutes" my brother in christ i could listen to you describe paint dry for 4 hours and still be interested, side note, even if ya upload less that just gives us time to rewatch your other videos more brother.
i was a kid when i played the demo of this on my xbox 360, something about it was intriguing to my kid brain lol. I eventually got the game but never finished it, so I am glad to have watched this, I understand the plot a bit better too. Anyway, it was a decent game and that M4 was fun to shoot
I remember first playing a demo of this game on my 360. The character graphics were mind blowing and the lighting and rain effects were unlink anything I'd ever seen at that time
That would be great. I've never actually played blacksite but hope to find a cheep copy of it one day. I still own the PS2 Area 51, i loved that game as a kid and still own it
Yeah, i refused to play this game on principle when it came out. Area 51 was one of my favorite, single player, fps campaigns. It is still, to this day, in my top 10 fps campaigns.
Really liked the medical facility at the start where you can see all the experiments and surgery but the environment is absolutely filthy. Weirdly similar vibe to the movie Attack The Block, where you have aliens invading a London ghetto instead of a big shiny American city and a local drug dealer hangs up an alien corpse in his grow room as a trophy.
I love this game and still do. In fact, around the year 2008, my brother and I would often discuss the war commentary, dark undertones, creatures, the strange, underlined themes, and conspiracy theories we would hear about on Coast to Coast AM and how those theories could have influenced this game. I know I still have my PC CD ROM disc that I bought while I was living in Europe. If i remember correctly, the cover stated, in German that it is the uncut version of the game.
Whenever you post a video I always get so excited to watch it I end up binging other older videos and then the new one as like a lead up to it, great vid as always MrHammers!
I love these longer videos man! I loved Area 51 on the ps2!! I played it non stop as a kid. Happy new year dude and can’t wait to see more of your videos !
Gotta say: I totally disagree about Harvey. If he wanted to quit, he should have. If not, give your best & then move on. Still, this video rocks & I appreciate the look back at such a special time in gaming.
I'm sure he did give his best, there are tons of fantastic things in this game, but when the publisher comes in and shuts half of it down that's gotta be frustrating and think he's 100% in the right to speak his mind about it after the game released to poor reviews
@@MrHammers I mean to be fair, I don't think many people want to play a whole politics infested game, not to say there isn't any politics in games. But at least in other games they doesn't seem to be hammering down on you constantly. Still fun game though.

Man, I remember getting my copy of Area 51 from EB Games when it 1st dropped and fell in love with it, I thought it was a pretty badass game, especially the fact that the devs actually had real websites in the game you can look up and all, like the BlackVault among others, I wished they would really make a good sequel of Area 51
thanks for making this video. you just helped me realize i did indeed play this game and completely forgot about it; probably because i enjoyed the original Area 51 so much and this paled in comparison.
I remember this game having an insane live action tv spot with a little girl singing ashes to ashes as she walks through a ruined town then one of the scout xenos flying in and screeching into the camera they don’t make tv spots like that nowadays lol
I remember years ago messing around with the multiplayer and getting stuck with one of those viral achievements that happened to be worth 49G. Think I was stuck with that achievement for about a year or two before I got around to getting the other half of the viral achievement to get 51G and even things out.
Aw man I haven’t thought about this game in so long. This video really brought back some memories. :) I loved the design of the reborn human/mech enemy.
This showed up on my recommended and just awoke a latent memory in me I forgot for years I had. I played this game so much, it was one of the games that I loved growing up and played over and over. I still stand by that.
The CQC portions of Rachel are definitely the highlight of the game, *probably why those were the only levels we saw in the teasers* The game definitely does show it's ugly side with the open-ended driving and even some of the tacked on rooms here and there throughout the campaign as they feel super drab and empty even for the Seventh Gen it came out on. It also has this *Bizarre* running theme of Dodge advertisements, a it features a ton of licensed Dodge car models and even advertisements for the 2006 Dodge Challenger concept car. Hell, it got to the point even the main squad mates appraise them and one even claims he should go out and buy a Dodge Avenger lol. Finally, this game got an unofficial rerelease on Steam in 2020, as some random dude just grabbed the cracked EXE and copy-pasted a bunch of press-release info and shoveled it onto steam, where it sold a few keys before getting pulled as Warner Bro's still holds the rights. It turned out it was a quick experiment on the behalf of "MB Publishing" for the sole purpose of seeing if it would work and if anyone would even notice. Strange.
I remember because of the great experience I had with the first game I bought the sequel and after a day of playing it I returned it. I didn't beat it, something didn't click idk what it was.
18:51 This is why I unironically love Duke Nukem 2011 Something about just battling a alien invasion as a "nobody" set in a normal place (or las vegas) Is just fun. It tickles that fun question of "if there was a alien invasion RIGHT NOW, how would that shake out?" What would it be like battling invaders while trying to get across town. Taking shelter in a godamn burger king while trying to defend earth.
Great video, I will buy any game with Area 51 in the title for sure. I would have bought this game anyway though because it's my favorite kind of game and it looks cool. I have both the PS2 game and this one on PS3. I enjoyed both games. I was so disappointed that I couldn't play the Area 51 arcade machine that is in the first level of the PS2 game that I went out and bought the PS1 port just so I could play it. Awesome games thanks for your retrospective.

This game is so underrated, Black side Area 51 was ahead of its time and was just so good to play.
Man I remember the first Area 51 and that was so memorable. Blacksite, while somewhat memorable to me, was one of my first gaming disappointments. It just didn't scratch that itch. If anything, I'd say X-COM: The Bureau is more in line with what I was expecting.
can you play black site without playing Area 51?
@rajendrabiswas yeah, they aren't related at all
Excellent commentary on this somewhat under-rated Sci-Fi follow up to the original Xbox game! I have seen several old reviews of this game but none of them had the solid in-depth details nor footage of the more unique aspects of this game, very well done man!
I picked this game up a few years ago but never played it, only the Xbox one which I enjoyed.
Thanks dude! I'm glad you liked it, imo this game had potential but fell very flat
I had no idea Harvey smith was involved with this! He’s a fucking legend with deus ex and Dishonored !!!! All his work at Arkane is amazing imo. Thanks for that new bit of history!
No problem! He's a legend in my book just with how he slammed Midway after working with them on this game
Another video from Mr. Hammers himself that I always wait for and receive in delight.
I remember this game to be weird and unusual with what it's trying to tell although having standard gameplay.
This was fascinating. Love these stories about double-A 7th gen games.
I loved this game as a kid, that scene in Rachel where the woman gets grabbed behind the fence stuck with me.
Can't save everyone sadly
That neighborhood section was just soo good
I do like this game as a side thing.
The pistol was crazy in that game lol 1 head shot and you were dead
never heard of this game.
I'l play it.
I beat Area 51 a number of times. It was fun.
The nighttime gas station level is the one that was picked for the demo released on the 360. I'm pretty sure a lot more people have played that level than have actually played the game 😆
i played the crap out of that demo back in high school lmao
"Honestly i cant believe i just talked about this game for 45 minutes" my brother in christ i could listen to you describe paint dry for 4 hours and still be interested, side note, even if ya upload less that just gives us time to rewatch your other videos more brother.
Thank you bro, I appreciate that. I'm glad you like the content 😊
i was a kid when i played the demo of this on my xbox 360, something about it was intriguing to my kid brain lol. I eventually got the game but never finished it, so I am glad to have watched this, I understand the plot a bit better too. Anyway, it was a decent game and that M4 was fun to shoot
I remember first playing a demo of this game on my 360. The character graphics were mind blowing and the lighting and rain effects were unlink anything I'd ever seen at that time
Now I want to collection the Area 51 games... like a blast from the past experience pack. Very Classic!
Jesus the original arcade Area 51 PC port was one of my most favorite games I've ever played. That brings back some good memories!
Whenever you post a video I always get so excited to watch it I end up binging other older videos and then the new one as like a lead up to it, great vid as always MrHammers!
Thank you! That means a lot, I'm glad you like the content 🥰
One of the many "discount bin" games I rember playing back in the day. This one felt especially tedious throughout, despite some interesting parts.
The squad morale makes so much sense considering what the developer was going for
Edit: “man you ain’t gone believe this”🤣🤣 12:25
I love these longer videos man! I loved Area 51 on the ps2!! I played it non stop as a kid. Happy new year dude and can’t wait to see more of your videos !
Thanks! Happy new year to you as well my friend
X-Factors: "You're Mongoose Blathers, Dang It!"
That's fair, in this case I don't think the politics get in the way of gameplay, so why not have a decent story
@@MrHammers it wouldn't really. Ig it just matters if the gameplay is good, then it'd make up for the story having a lot of politics, but then again we never saw it at the true potential so I can't even really say anything.
Wow I was looking for this game for years, played it when I was younger and had fond memories
This video shattered those memories
Thank you. Thank you. Thankyou. I have been looking for this game for YEARS. EVER SENSE THE DEMO CAME OUT. LITERALLY YEARS. I used to play the demo that was out a loooooooong time ago on my brothers Xbox. Before he eventually uninstalled it. Thank you. So so much I could never remember the name of this game. And randomly today here it is!!!
This will sound stupid, but I loved Area 51 and when I saw this game I always thought it was a completely different IP that also just happened to be set in Area 51, so I ignored it.
I mean, you're not really wrong haha. It has nothing to do with the first game
I know this is random but I just glanced over at your profile and have been subscribed so long that I kind of was struck when I seen the GTA Vice City Hammer instead of your usual profile picture skull! Also, thank you so much for the video. You've gained so many subscribers this year! I hope 2023 is just as great. Your channel is awesome!
Thanks homie! Hope you have a good new year
YOU DO NOT FUCKING MISS WITH HITTING EACH AND EVERY SINGLE FUCKING NOSTALGIC GAME I REMEMBER THANK YOU
I remember liking only a few things about the game but barely. To me, it felt like a fever dream. The first game however, I remember fondly and vividly
Looks like Harvey will get his "weird shit in a small town" game with Redfall.
All of the mentions of Flatheads makes me wanna re-read the First Law Trilogy. Great series!
thanks for making this video.
you just helped me realize i did indeed play this game and completely forgot about it; probably because i enjoyed the original Area 51 so much and this paled in comparison.
My brother and I played this game a lot. It was really fun and had some horror aspects which I liked. Miss such simple games like this.
I actually really enjoyed this game when I was younger in fact I might play through the whole game again
The return of the king (of video game retrospectives)
The only king here is you 👑
unironically ive been looking for thus games name for years… I played this with my cousin when i was so young and it blew my mind
I been thinking about this game since I was a kid when I played it on Xbox as a demo back when demos use to come with the magazines.
I remember this game having an insane live action tv spot with a little girl singing ashes to ashes as she walks through a ruined town then one of the scout xenos flying in and screeching into the camera they don’t make tv spots like that nowadays lol
The original is just soooooo nostalgic. I absolutely love the 2005 game. I know it’s not the focus of this video but needed to say it anyways
Just yesterday I rewatched the first video and wondered if you were gonna do a video on the second game too! Awesome!
Good timing!
You have to look at the Resistance games sometime. The "alien invasion going down downtown" vibe is really strong in various entries of that series.
MR Hammer back again with another Banger!!!
I remember years ago messing around with the multiplayer and getting stuck with one of those viral achievements that happened to be worth 49G. Think I was stuck with that achievement for about a year or two before I got around to getting the other half of the viral achievement to get 51G and even things out.
I remember playing this game on a PS2 demo disc and It was so cool to me as a kid.
I remember picking this up at gamestop years ago and playing it and having fun despite thinking the controls were weird lol
I hardly EVER see people talk or mention Area-51 at all throughout the years. Now to hear there's even a sequel it's something else
The first area 51 is my favorite game when I was younger
Aw man I haven’t thought about this game in so long.
This video really brought back some memories. :)
I loved the design of the reborn human/mech enemy.
I loved this game i this video takes me back. brings me back to the days of brute force and all them other games.
This showed up on my recommended and just awoke a latent memory in me I forgot for years I had.
I played this game so much, it was one of the games that I loved growing up and played over and over. I still stand by that.
I remember playing BlackSite Area 51 on xbox 360... I would always replay it when I beat it. I think I have beat it like 20 times +
The CQC portions of Rachel are definitely the highlight of the game, *probably why those were the only levels we saw in the teasers*
The game definitely does show it's ugly side with the open-ended driving and even some of the tacked on rooms here and there throughout the campaign as they feel super drab and empty even for the Seventh Gen it came out on.
Area 51 was my favorite game when was in my early 20’s.
Oh shit! I was trying to remember what this game was for almost a decade. All i`ve had in mind was the picture of an alien with wierd long legs
I love how the squad opens fire at the red neck before the alien shows up.
It was like the alien was trying to save him from the military. 17:16
I enjoyed this game so much that I managed to get all the achievements
Oh wow, probably a rare feat lol
I remember getting this from gamestop about 7 yrs ago for a few bucks. Had fun for what it was.
18:51
This is why I unironically love Duke Nukem 2011
Something about just battling a alien invasion as a "nobody" set in a normal place (or las vegas)
Is just fun. It tickles that fun question of "if there was a alien invasion RIGHT NOW, how would that shake out?"
What would it be like battling invaders while trying to get across town.
Happy New Year(Reserved) MrHammers
Same to you my friend!
This game looked so cool back in the day. It still looks really good.
Gosh I forgot this game existed. I enjoyed it back in the day
Great video bro , I played this game once I did beat it but I have completely forgotten about this game thanks for the refreshing trip down memory lane lol
Appreciate ya my man!
@MrHammers just wondering have you ever played the old EA game BLACK?
Yeah! Wanna do a video on that eventually
@@MrHammers ooo I'm excited lol
Thanks for letting me save this video in my playlist for years to finally watch and be a waste..
My god I remember the launch of this game Im now 28 years old back when games were random but had substance and variety where did gaming go so wrong
