Recently picked up one of these, and absolutely love it. It's my first rangefinder, and the focusing is just so good on it (compared to using my Spotmatic). Great video!
I thought that G-III referred to the three guide number settings available for use with a dedicated flash. Note the hot shoe has an additional contact for Canon's proprietary flashes which are capable of taking over the light meter circuitry to indicate the proper f-number to use (or set automatically with the trap-needle system) for a given focus distance. Said distance is translated by a sensor built into the focussing collar. These flashes could also be used in the same way on F-1s, Ftbs and EFs. A few of the lenses had a knob on the focussing rings which would engage with a ring that bayonetted on the front of the lens, and had a cord which plugged into the side of the flash, to do the job of informing the flash of subject distance. Shutter priority auto, Canon's preferred mode, automated the guide number process. They kept this sort of auto guide number setting with the EZ flashes on the first EOS cameras.
I loved the feel of this camera, but struggled to focus well with mine. It kept me away from RFs a bit (it's my first/only entry). But then I used a friends ZI... and realized my patch was just bad or something, lol. Ultimately, I just don't want to deal w/ film either, but sorta regret not grabbing an R3A back in the day. Side note: is that an Ona Bowery? Looks like it, but the strap has molle loops? Custom or something you added?
I tried to adjust the rangefinder. Could get an image in focus and aligned up close but then wouldn’t align at infinity. Messed with it a little more, and now it won’t align ever. The rangefinder ghost won’t go far enough to the left. Anyway to fix this?
Love this series, I had a G-III QL but I ended up selling it as i really disliked that the focus patch fades significantly, and it's near impossible to focus in the dark.
Thanks for a great review. Finally getting around to using mine. Re-sealed it a few years ago and life got in the way. What do you find are the best cells for the meter ? Regards, John.
Another con is the lens coating, which is fragile, so very prone to fungus, haze and cleaning marks, so you'll have to do some digging to find a clean one and keep it away from humidity.
It’s a lovely little camera. When maintained and treated right, it just keeps on kicking on a true workhorse.
I have two! One in black and one in silver. Love them both.
Fun to watch, appreciate you putting these out. Always look forward to a new one ✌🏼
That Safelight shirt

You found a good style for these videos!
Glad you like them!
These are great videos! I have a QL-q17 II, and a Leica M9 Kravitz edition. Both are stunning cameras!

I miss mine. Luckily I just ordered one 😅

Love the videos! What do you shoot these on? Keep 'em coming and thanks for making this series informative and inspiring!
I just found one of these for 25 quid in a cash converters and haggled down to 15 quid. I see now they go on ebay now for sometimes 300+.
I have one of the original (?) ones, no G, just a QL 17. compact, easy to use.
I hope you will cover the Canon Demi 35mm half frame camera from the early 1960s. I used one for a few years in the late 1970s.
What camera bag are you using?
Nice & Thanks :)
Nice t shirt!
Thanks!

Would like to see a review of Olympus Pen FT.
I have one of these but the lens and finder are comply filled with fungus and the shutter speed seem off

Thanks for the tip!
It took me two years to find the original lens hood at a reasonable price. Lens hood 5
Fantastic videos, short and sweet! The audio could use improvement.
Noted!
Its funny that a camera in this price range is constantly competing for my attention with my Leica M6. Its just that good!
It certainly is.
Canonet sounds like how the locals here say "justaboutfits"
