  • today we're going to be shooting the Canonet QL17 GIII at coney island on portra 400. i picked up this bad boy at an antique mall, though the repair costs equated to buying a refurbished model on ebay.
    UNFORTUNATELY, Alex's Etsy shop seems to be closed as of July 5th, 2022: www.etsy.com/l...

    What a nice video, man... so relaxing!
    I just bought one too in a vintage store in excellent condition, and i can't wait to use it. What battery do you recommend me use? Px625A or a wein cell px675? I've heard that the 625 higher volt affect the exp meter.

    I just picked one up that was CLA’ed from a camera shop. I’m hoping it is my summer camera when I jump on the bicycle.

    I got one of these the other day with a dead light meter. Anyone have a place that might be able fix it? Preferably east coast US

    What battery do you use on the Canonet? I just bought one and I tried with a SR43 and an adapter but it doesn't seem to work, although the seller swear it was in perfect condition. Not sure if I got bumped or I haven't found the right batter... any help would be hugely appreciated!! Thank you!!

    • @robertsamuel
      @robertsamuel  2 роки тому +1

      the SR43 batteries work if the camera has been modified to accept the battery. otherwise, use the Weincell MRB625 batteries.

    Just snagged this camera at a thrift store in Colorado. Seems to be in perfect working order. Do you find that with the 1/500th maximum shutter speed that you need to use an ND filter when shooting 400 speed film (or higher) at f/11 or below in bright daylight? I’ve seen a lot of people shoot with it at sunny 16 due to the 1/500th shutter speed limit.

      i've personally never had an issue, but i also don't shoot often in broad daylight! ND filters are great if you get one that doesn't cast too much of a color

      @@robertsamuel Excellent. Thanks for the info! Oddly enough just scored the Canonet Junior with the 40mm f/2.8 at an estate sale today for $20! 📸

    Hi , any other battery option than Weincell MRB625 batteries ?

    • @robertsamuel
      @robertsamuel  2 роки тому +1

      as of right now, not really. the original mercury batteries are off the table. unless you can find someone to rewire the camera to take different batteries, the Weincell ones are your only option.

      I use the Loopacell 625A battery in my QL17 griii. It's a slightly higher voltage so the light meter is off a bit but the batteries last much longer and are cheaper. You just need to calibrate the light meter against a known meter by adjusting the film iso speed dial.

    How did the double exposure happen?

    • @robertsamuel
      @robertsamuel  2 роки тому

      it could be a number of reasons. the winding spokes could've not caught on the film reel. or i may have accidentally depressed the film rewind button which would also release the winding spokes from the film.

    hey robert, thanks for making this vid. i've always been shooting digital (@nyc.vuudoo) and for some reason lost my motivation to take photos. im trying to get into film photography to see whether it'll get me going again. do you recommend the canonet as my first film camera. im also in NYC and was wondering how do you find film cameras to buy? like how did you find the thrift shop in rhode island?

    • @robertsamuel
      @robertsamuel  2 роки тому

      the canonet is a fun camera, though i recommend pretty much any film camera if you're just looking to get back into shooting again. the gear shouldn't matter. i've bought cameras from ebay and various thrift/antique stores in RI and NY. i never find exactly what i'm looking for, and i always keep my eye open.
