I love this camera! I learned photography basics on one that I inherited my dad a few years ago. The light meter was broken so I just shot full manual. I've got a digital camera now, but this little Canon will always be my favorite.
. . . additionally its hard to bump the shutter and take a frame without advancing the film. On that note, being able to manually advance the film is very satisfying, its like a fidget function for photographers. lol Thanks for sharing bro!! Great video, neat shots!
I've recently run out of mercury PX625 and tried other kinds in my Canonet QL17 G-III. It turned out, the Canonet is quite finicky when it comes to voltage. Whatever you use as a replacement, make sure it's 1.35V or your metering will be off by a lot!
You can get them updated too. It's a matter of adding a diode to the battery circuit but I had mine done professionally and now she takes 1.55v silver batteries and lasts forever, I've only changed it preemptively
@@rossandhisjpegs How could you make this video and not know? Like most cameras of this era, the Canonette's auto-exposure is calibrated to the battery voltage and is almost unusable without either internal adjustment or use of a close voltage battery like the Wein zinc-air cell. Many just use a different Film ISO to roughly compensate for meter error, which seems you have been the path used in the video.
Nah, it’s super cute! I had one, sold it, and bought a new one a few months back. I am enjoying it, but I’m also looking at picking up a minolta CLE… 😅
@@rossandhisjpegs I’ve also been… underwhelmed by battery life. I understood the first one dying because I left it “on”, but the second one I tried to turn the meter “off” by putting it on a non-A value of the Aperture ring, but it still seemed like it chewed through the battery. 🤷♂️ at least it’s mechanical, so I can use it even without a battery. 😸
I had one and put white leather on it. I sold it and missed it until i found an olympus 35rc. I like the olympus a bit more despite the slower aperture
I just purchased a little camera for £3 from a charity shop. I'm a casual shooter still trying to understand the triangle of photography lol. Anyways I'm texting to say the camera I purchased is a Pen EE3 Half frame. With your understanding of camera's I'm sure you'd have a ball with it. A half frame takes two photos per negative meaning a 36 shot roll gives 72 photo's lol. I haven't tried it yet myself but it was something I thought you could do a video on. Something different. I'm from Northern Ireland to buddy, just a 10 minute drive from the famous Black Arch near Drains Bay.. Best wishes to you and your's 👍👍
When I made this video I thought I had an adapted battery solution, but when I checked it was actually one of the mercury ones that came with the camera when I bought it. All recommendations for battery replacements welcome on my end too :)
surprised that you say it's "not nice to look at" -- i actually think it's quite a beautiful looking camera, especially compared with today's aesthetics.
Amazing production quality and images you're putting out there. I hope you get a huge following that matches your incredible content soon.
Thanks so much!!!

Thanks!! 🎉
great video Ross!! just as an FYI, QL is indeed Quick load, and 17 refers to the 1.7 aperture. I love the look of the camera, absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thanks so much!!
wow the results really fantastic, hope soon i can have this range finder camera
Yeah for sure you should get one! Thanks for the comment.
I have a few old rangefinders. Love them. My favourites are a little Chinon 35EE and my Yashica Electro 35. Must get hold of a Canon rangefinder. 👍📸
Aww class. I love my Electro 35 too. This is a little easier to focus and get consistent results in my opinion :)) Why do you like the Chinon?
@@rossandhisjpegs It was my first rangefinder and pretty discreet for street shots. And it’s amazingly sharp for what it is. And another f1.7!🥳📸
I wish Canon made such a good looking camera as a digital. It would be great.
They would make billions.
I think I saw an article that Canon is in the works to release an x100vi competitor.
I totally agree. That would be awesome

Awesome. What lens are you using to get that swirly bokeh?
Helios 44-2

Yeah I actually love the look too. A few people have said though they think it’s ugly. They’re wrong haha
Niiice. Let me know if you get one :)

Cool! Never used one myself but will look into it! 🎉

Very cool! Enjoy the camera :)
Love mine, the only issue with my copy is that the check battery button doesn't work....question... what do you do for a battery?
When I made this video I thought I had an adapted battery solution, but when I checked it was actually one of the mercury ones that came with the camera when I bought it. All recommendations for battery replacements welcome on my end too :)
I've seen that the best workaround is the mr9 adapter and lr44 batteries
The sign on the fence gate next morning said "No Shooting" what are doing ! Shootin' the gate could get ya lots of trouble !
Plus I'm confused don't know what a quid is, pro quo, hahaha
Quid = Pound

I love the look of it. I’ve just heard lots of others saying it’s ugly, too boxy or something?!
@@rossandhisjpegs their sense of aesthetics has been spoiled by modern ugliness :)
I absolutely love mine as well, the only downside would be its performance against a direct light source.
It’s a goodie
