I remember being in my native Chile, so far away from Bosnia, and being around 11 or 12 years old ,watching this on TV and seeing my mum with tears in her eyes because it reminded her the atrocities our own people had to endure during the Pinochet days. I found this footage so shocking that i went straight to my schools library and started researching about the Balkans and the Balkan wars. I became so obsessed that when i moved to Europe, i travelled the Balkans for 6 months learning Cyrillic and embracing the different cultures, meeting and hearing in person the horrendous stories of war of people my age; yes, while i was all comfy in my house on the other side of the world eating pizza and watching tv, this girl i was talking to was drinking water from a sewage. I was 9 years old when this song was released. My family and I fled the Bosnian civil war and were at this point far away from home, yet I walked these streets just this morning, and yesterday and a day before. Strong feeling watcing scenes from this video. It gives me goosebumps and makes me cry. War changed it all: so many stolen lives, destroyed destinies and broken dreams. So many people, good people, brave people, who are no longer among us...
I read the other comments and found them hard to understand. Worse, I understand and despise them: first for dealing with the policits (either civil war or not, what's the point?), the second for accusing you for the escape. What's the point?
Please don't use the term "civil war" as it was not because it started AFTER Bosnia and Herzegovina officially became independent from Yugoslavia (Serbia at that point) @Mindac24
For example my town is in serb republic, they demolished my house built a church right next to it (we never had one in a town before war)... Out of some 1000 people that lived there only 50 returned. The killer soul of our town, i have nothing to return too and it just brings painful memories.... It's not money!
I was in Srebrenica July 2015, 10 days before the 20 year memorial day. Group of Muslim ladies got a tour and they played a documentary about the whole happening in the hall were all those innocent people were captured during the last moments of their lives. Their teacher allowed me to watch it with them. This song was used as the soundtrack of this documentary and it was heartbreaking to see those young ladies, that might have lost family during that genocide, crying and seeking comfort, I could not keep it dry myself either seeing so much grief in one room. (It was the I was not glad to be Dutch). Now each time I hear that song I still get chills and tears cause the song assembles, in my opinion, perfectly what I felt and saw that day, very emotional.
I can't help my tears from falling down while I'm watching this video showing that heroic way of resisting and clinging to the life of the Bosnian people in the saddest and darkest moments of the war. I think how incredible it is that history repeats itself today in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip. I wonder when human beings will understand that war only generates pain, death and more and more war. The Siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare, from April 5, 1992 to February 29, 1996 (1,425 days). Instead of asking for "world peace" as she was crowned Miss Besieged Sarajevo in 1993, 17-year-old Inela Nogic unfolded a banner that read: "Don't let them kill us."
Why I am not being offered songs about how hard life is for some - and to keep the faith? This song is the Bible - in Modern times and now with Israel and Hammas AGAIN we have it. And it will never end, until the end of the age. Sometimes it wears us out and all we have is music - a gift surely from God - I need more. Pavorotis Words are so beautiful. I remember working in an old peoples home - and there being a thunder storm outside and we couldnt go out and we ended up having this slumber party x it was the day the big Pavorotti passed on. A time to gather stones and cast them away.
THE BEST PART: Dici che il fiume Trova la via al mare E come il fiume Giungerai a me Oltre i confini E le terre assetate Dici che come fiume Come fiume L'amore giungerà L'amore E non so più pregare E nell'amore non so più sperare E quell'amore non so più aspettare Goosebumps !!
I was in Sarajevo the other week,(saw the movie from which this was on the end) and seeing this video really has new meaning for me, really beautiful lyrics and the Pavarotti part suits the feel of the song. Very moving
A HISTÓRIA VIVE !!!
I was in high school back then, in France, and we had to donate food, clothes, and school supplies for all these poor people. I hope all those victims of that terrible war have better lives today.
When I watch the scene at 4:35, I always wonder who the people are. They look like a mother and her child. I wonder how they ended up there, with their car destroyed perhaps to escape a mortar attack. They seem to have been killed while trying to flee that situation. My heart aches and I wonder their names, where they lived, how they ended up there, who mourned them. I hope they are now together continuing the love that this scene has crystallized
At video roll 2:59 I get chills when starts his pitch " Dici che il fiume Trova la via al mare E come il fiume Giungerai a me Oltre i confini E le terre assetate Dici che come fiume Come fiume L'amore giungerà L'amore E non so più pregare E nell'amore non so più sperare E quell'amore non so più aspettare"
Terribles recuerdos. Guerras inexplicables. Un gran tema con una interpretación memorable
This hurts. I thought world is gonna learn after this, but nothing has been changed. I see videos, photos from Gaza, West Bank and I see the same image I saw living in Bosnia at that time. Palestine, Ukraine, Congo, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Uyghurs...
Beautiful song. Makes me cry. The absolute insanity of War. These brutal wars in Yemen, Iraq and Syria and the moment. Absolute madness. There's enough religion in the world to hate but not to love.....so true.
Matthew 23: Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.[a] 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. Even the Prince of Peace was against religion. We don't have a religion with our parents, we have a relationship with them. The same should go with our Lord Jesus Christ. Religion is what causes these atrocities.
I'd argue it's less to do with religion and more to do with neoconservative and liberal profiteers who can't stand to see Arab nationalists or socialists in power. Otherwise, I agreel these wars are rather depressing and pointless.
This work of art is quite magnificent; all the praises are due to Pavarotti, Bono, and Brian Eno. This song is effectively a cathartic shedding of tears over one of history's most catastrophic brother wars.
this song made history - (rather documented it). When I was a kid, my parents brought home the first original CD and it was Pavarotti and friends for war children. I remember it because my mom asked me what it meant. I didn't know, but he answered it means: Pavarotti for your children. It actually hurts sweetly today..
Jayce Love I’m torn between the sweeping majestic beauty with Pavarotti and then George breathes so much love and compassion that you have lower your head at divine genius and feel blessed.
This song is a time defining masterpiece, with a horrible backstory… and when Luciano comes in, you feel the pain this country, and its people felt. Terrible war, beautiful song.
as a Ukrainian and resident of Kyiv, I am now sitting and crying... I loved this song since childhood, but now I am 25 years old and my beloved city is being bombed by Russian troops and it is scary to write to my friends every morning asking «are you alive?» and what is happening now in Mariupol is madness and massacre humankind is nothing...
I can empathise with your grief and pain, even though I live in a safe country at the moment. But I know Kyiv and other Ukraines cities and let me tell you that all the pictures of the war, the people, the bombs and the destructions on the screen and in the newspapers break my heart and make me cry. I also know Sarajevo and I am so afraid of another new conflict in the Balkans between Serbia and Bosnia because the Serbs support Russia and want independence for the Serbian territories in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It is exasperating that humanity does not learn from the mistakes of the past.
God bless you. I’m a soldier coming to end of my service. I’d happily extend it to help Ukraine (if my Government wishes it) and finally do something that’s actually worthwhile.

L'amore
E non so più pregare
E nell'amore non so più sperare
E quell'amore non so più aspettare
Goosebumps !!
Questo pezzo ha una melodia unica. Molto significativa e toccante❤️
A brutal reminder that war doesn't pay for those who believe in it. Beautiful song.
"had to"?
So sad so sad😢 Beutiful music yhat goes deeply in our hearts. 🥗It shows How The world looks like in The tragic parts of our world🌍🗽
l play this video, over and over. It touch's my heart and soul.
Mark Rider Me too
These heroic people and families are triumphant,, They kept their dignity. " Don't let them kill you"🇲🇰🙏
It's tragic, that thid Song became timeless.😥
When I watch the scene at 4:35, I always wonder who the people are. They look like a mother and her child. I wonder how they ended up there, with their car destroyed perhaps to escape a mortar attack. They seem to have been killed while trying to flee that situation. My heart aches and I wonder their names, where they lived, how they ended up there, who mourned them. I hope they are now together continuing the love that this scene has crystallized
Words can't describe how good this song/video is.
At video roll 2:59 I get chills when starts his pitch " Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
Giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
E le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
Come fiume
L'amore giungerà
L'amore
E non so più pregare
E nell'amore non so più sperare
E quell'amore non so più aspettare"
This song is simply AWESOME. No further comments, your Honor.
Terribles recuerdos. Guerras inexplicables. Un gran tema con una interpretación memorable
My country...my people...my buildings...my heart...the most beautiful city in whole world...my,the one and only...SA...
This song and video makes me tear up everytime, my childhood..
❤🌹
Many years ago there wasn't religion and men still find reason to fight wars.
@@Emy-fv5ny There have always been both.

Quelle belle chanson on sent la patte de Bono(Paul hewson) Irlandais
Great song , I think it means peace
This work of art is quite magnificent; all the praises are due to Pavarotti, Bono, and Brian Eno. This song is effectively a cathartic shedding of tears over one of history's most catastrophic brother wars.
Even if we wish to god never let it happen again, it is in human hands and minds to avoid such a tragedy like that in any part of the world
Grande video. Grande canzone .
this song made history - (rather documented it). When I was a kid, my parents brought home the first original CD and it was Pavarotti and friends for war children. I remember it because my mom asked me what it meant. I didn't know, but he answered it means: Pavarotti for your children. It actually hurts sweetly today..
Big Luciano rip ❤
This song is a masterpiece. My heart is with all of the Balkans.
Elmo. Thanks from Bulgaria !🌍🌎🌏
Youjust keep tapping peopleon tei the shoulder way ayfter the first, as a police bullet.
The Version of George Michael si better.
Jayce Love I’m torn between the sweeping majestic beauty with Pavarotti and then George breathes so much love and compassion that you have lower your head at divine genius and feel blessed.
This song is a time defining masterpiece, with a horrible backstory… and when Luciano comes in, you feel the pain this country, and its people felt.
as a Ukrainian and resident of Kyiv, I am now sitting and crying... I loved this song since childhood, but now I am 25 years old and my beloved city is being bombed by Russian troops and it is scary to write to my friends every morning asking «are you alive?»
and what is happening now in Mariupol is madness and massacre
humankind is nothing...
Are you ok today? Are you safe?
I hope that you're safe my friend, we are with you, we will help you, glory to Ukraine.
@@rumcoke9123 now Russia kills ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine for 2 months. So go away.
God bless you. I’m a soldier coming to end of my service. I’d happily extend it to help Ukraine (if my Government wishes it) and finally do something that’s actually worthwhile.
I stay in vukovar 7 years ago. I still cry for this song
Amazing song with all issues and unfortunately history will repeat itself. Now Gaza….. great that musicians find other ways to express themselves . Thank you U2
Love from Sarajevo!
My motherland. My Bosnia💙💛
