Great review, Justin. I had mentioned yesterday on a music forum that the mix of this release was really nagging me but I couldn't pinpoint exactly why, but I think you've nailed it. Good, honest review. That photo of Charlie inside the packaging is just priceless. Of all the Stones, if I could choose one to hang out with for a day it would have been Charlie Watts.

I think the Blu-ray captures one of the best live performances ever. It's awesome. My other favorite is "Bridges to Buenos Aires.". Keef is astounding. Even during Ron's solos, Keef keeps rocking. Woody is playing at full force, and his tone is excellent. Charlie is the best as always; he not only smiles but actually laughs. Mick Jagger ascends to a higher plane of existence. I believe Mick is 60 at the time this was recorded. It's astounding that he can perform one song at this level, let alone 20 at any age. Great that you're enjoying it. I am too but in small bursts right now. It's taken a bit for me to get warmed up to it. Hand of Fate is the gem of the night for me.
Ok my review is that I love how the band is having fun on stage. It's a high spirit driving version of obscure songs. I really had fun watching Keith spining and delivering his part! Interesting review, for sure - thanks! I got the Wiltern 2-CD set yesterday and am listening to it for the first time as I write this. I agree already the production is bright! Whether that's good or bad I don't know yet. But just from the liner notes, we have the Stones as producers (which surely means Mick & Keith), with mixing by Sam Wheat and audio mastering by Mazen Murad. We also have 4 names for Mercury Studios' product manager, post-product manager, head of production and head of post-production. I have no idea what all this means, what all of them did!
Thanks for the post! It's a mystery because it's likely the same mix/master as the BBC version of the show from 2022 yet that felt much easier on the ears and was not as fatiguing. Did the mix take away from the whole show for you?
@@HangFireStonesPodcast I've listened a few times now, and I'm ok with the mix. For me, the sound is bright because M&K wanted to reproduce the energy and immediacy of the show. I wish the guitars had been more prominent on some tracks, especially on Going To A Go-Go, which is a bit too horn-heavy, in contrast to the 1981 version where Keith's guitar and Bill's bass drove it. Just watched the Blu-ray and this is the Stones completely on their game with a faultless interesting and adventurous setlist and Keith especially setting about his business like a man possessed.
