I was in Palmdale High School in Antelope Valley near Lancaster where Zappa lived as a late teenager. I was 14 when the Mothers were recording Freak Out in March 1966. Friends and I went to see Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band at venues around AV such as the Lancaster Exposition Hall at the fairgrounds. Some of the members of BC and the Cavemen later became players in the Magic Band. What a time that was from '65 to '69.

Zappa was, and will remain great throughout time yet he lived in a time when he should have had a, so to speak, a chip on his shoulder. In other words, Frank, like myself, were bullied by our own government, and we were bullied to the point of rebellion. Hippie, scumbag, draft dodger, and words of that nature took hold of all of our hearts. Now, and without Zappa, we are in want.

Zappa was a genius. Making music you love KNOWING that you are losing a bunch of money to create it, is just one example of a true artist that didn't create music for any other reason other than his love for it.

In 1979 in New York city at a bar called the city limits in the village I met Frank Zappa. Bars are super crowded and we had an extra seat. A guy ask if he could sit at our table and we said sure. I didn't recognize him his hair was cut but one of the guys with us did. Frank said he was with the band we had a deep conversation with him about UFO'S. He brought it up out of no where but never said he ever saw one. I saw a lot of famous people in New York city the three mouths I lived there on Governors Island.

Not many know that Frank was a good friend of North Hollywood High School's band teacher, back in the day. In fact, Zappa used to live across the street from the school, whose mascot was...a HUSKY dog. Which gave him the inspiration to pen the lyric to a song mentioned in this video: '.. Don't go where the HUSKIES go, and don't you eat no YELLOW SNOW'. Source: NHHS graduate, circa 1973. 💥💥BOOM, bay-beh.

As a young teenager in the early 1970s, I was introduced to Frank Zappa‘s music by an older friend. Specifically, “ weasels ripped my flesh,” “ overnight sensation“ and “Apostrophe.” My mind was blown. Over the years, I was fortunate enough to see Zappa live many times. Never a bad show or lineup. I believe that, listening to Frank Zappa, not only made me a more adventurous, music, consumer, but also a smarter and better human being. Frank’s music definitely was not for everyone, mostly music nerds with open minds. Thanks for the education, Frank.😂

Just like you as a child I really didn't appreciate Frank Zappa's music. Now as an adult I have a deep appreciation for it, not only his music but the man himself. What a great Patriot! I certainly don't want to give up my freedoms to a bunch of nincompoops and let them figure it out for me! Anyway great video I really enjoyed this one. Thank you. Like always thanks for taking us on the adventure.
