    I've never realized but she's right about how our brains are always looking for something to worry about

      The humans that survived thousands of years ago worried a lot...unfortunately, we are stuck with brains that look for danger...everywhere. But once you embrace this reality, the good news is that you can hijack the biology to work in our favor!

    I love the idea of the partnership model between therapist and client. In my experience therapists who act like they know everything about you after one session are so frustrating. It just feels presumptuous and like they aren't really taken in the details of your experiences

      I just discovered that I am living this reality myself. I was rear-ended in a car accident 5 years ago and recently learned that I had a concussion from it. So, my "stress levels" and untreatable "nerve pain" over the past few years were due to an undiagnosed and untreated brain injury...not to the pandemic, my mom's painful passing, or being a single mom who works 3 jobs. How many other people are experiencing similar things? We have so far to go in this field.

    As someone who's tried a bunch of different therapies, the idea of a unifying framework is super appealing. It's exhausting trying to figure out which approach is best. Hope more therapists start adopting this kind of model.

    • @DianeRGehartPhD
      @DianeRGehartPhD 3 місяці тому +1

      It's so true. It's really impossible for the person seeking treatment to know. Even if you do the research to understand which approach "should" work best for your approach, each person you find implements it differently. Arguably, the most consistent research finding is that there person who delivers the therapy is MORE important than the treatment model they use. It's soooo confusing.

      Thanks! I almost went with red, but a colleague of mine did a research study that indicated people got better test scores when the exam was printed on blue vs. yellow, pink or green. So I wear blue in the off-chance that it helps people understand what I am saying. A bit superstitious...even though based vaguely in research.

    Your TedxTalk was awesome. Gonna post in my home the following takeaways: 1) The 5 Pillars of Wellness, 2) "The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step", and 3) "I can improve my life no matter what is happening by starting with little healthy habits". Thank you for the motivation to live a more healthy and productive lifestyle.
