the thing why the animation and art looks and feels so good is because the developers were prior to this game an animation studio with years of experience. all of their stuff are up on youtube on their channel thunderhumor.
The sprinting and jumping, as small as they are, really improve something in a genre I didn't realize I needed until you showed it off. Gonna try this game out and only use the snake sword in honor of you.
Another banger video. I remember playing this game and checking the Steam page and it had about 26 reviews and thinking 'man this is gonna be a classic one day'. Still doesn't get the respect it deserves imo!
It still kind of shocks me by the very little amount of coverage on YT alone. I searched multiple phrases with "Voidigo" in it and I was just like "Why the hell didn't more people talk about this game?"
@@sl1ppey Because they didn't market the game properly to be honest. Maybe they are hoping on word of mouth or that it will pick up in sales eventually, but that's not really how you do it
i've never really been into roguelites before, only having watched people play through binding of isaac and gaining a basic understanding of the game and genre, but this game looks genuinely incredible, to the point where I'll heavily consider playing it. thanks for taking the time to go through so many aspects of the game. also 0:14 hit like a freight train, what a GREAT start to the video LMAO
Love these vids bc i never would have been exposed to this game otherwise. What a cool, well-done, and creative idea for the genre. also, the banana va deserves every award
Stumbled into your channel after your last rougelike video was recommended to me, and I really enjoy the style and humor in your videos! Also, a (Kinda?) rougelike that I'd recommend is Get To The Orange Door, or GTTOD. It's an incredible FPS movement shooter that I've put over 100 hours in throughout a few of its major overhaul updates, but now the game has settled into a loop and feel
My second run of this game was my first victory; i ran out of ammunition towards the end and ended up beating the enemy with buttons. I’d put it up there with my favorite experiences i’ve ever had in a video game. The music combined with the visuals made the entire thing unforgettable. The developers recently made a video talking about how much difficulty they had making and funding the game, and it breaks my heart.
This game has beautiful animations, but I feel like the map color in some parts could be turned down so you can see what you are doing easier. Maybe that along with giving enemies an outline or more contrasting colors to the floor. I bet if I actually played the game the visual problems wouldn’t be noticeable after a while, not to mention how good the gameplay looks.
It’s definitely something that you get used to after a bit. There are a few instances where I thought “wtf just hit me” but it doesn’t happen that often. Some more hectic fights like the Void Puppeteer are also balanced by individual attacks from the boss dealing less damage to account for how many attacks get thrown at you. I second enemy outlines being an option, I think that’d do nicely to contrast them from the environment.
Ayeeeeeeeeeeeeeee review on voidigo, glad more people gonna try it! I was presented to it by devs mutual friend, and followed the game around for a long while now
I remember voting on tiktok to add new weapons. Just now, watching your video, I realized that it's been a while since I last saw another video from them
And the new items and changes are cool, glad the game is still being worked on, and not just 'release and forget' not that as the game stands is lacking anything.
Played the game a while ago, after your Ak-xolotl video actually, I liked it a lot and I was also surprised how little recognition it got. Also I'm so glad you put the final boss theme it's own bit in the video it goes sooooo hard, Alan Gloob's theme does too.
Also you should try Risk of Rain 2 if you haven't already, and/or Risk of Rain Returns that is coming out on November 8th! Both are amazing games and I personally think of RoR2 as my all-time favorite rogue-lite, if not a game in general.
UA-cam recommended me your video about that axolotl game and then I fell in love with your channel! Your videos are well made and thought out and I enjoy watching them. I hope your channel will blow up someday, keep up the good work!
As an aspiring indie developer this game is really inspiring to me. Voidigo is insanely stylized and they have like 400+ devstreams of them making it which is nice to study their process. I hope I can make something with as much love and effort that Semiwork put into this game.
Been following the guys on tiktok since long cuz they actually listen to the playerbase, so far that they implemented some weapons based on what they asked for (they picked a few random comments and made it an item in-game, so rad)
I discovered this game a few days ago while I was searching for a good roguelike I hadn’t seen everywhere and that is also really fun. And man, even after playing the game for about 10 hours or so, I still find it incredibly enjoyable. The animations are fantastic, the control you have on your movement is so satisfying, and the gameplay itself is impeccable. It’s been a while I haven’t seen a really fast paced focused roguelike this good, and I would totally recommend people to check it out. Give it a shot, if you don’t like it then you can just get a refund.
Not sure if you read these or not but Battle Shapers just dropped into Early Access and after playing it for a few days I think it has a lot of potential! Might be worth keeping tabs on. Quality FPS Roguelites are hard to come by imo
My dude I read almost every comment (although I had to skimp on the AK-xolotl one because that was a lot lol). I still need to play Gunfire Reborn, but other than that yeah, FPS’ are still pretty unexplored as far are rogues go, gonna check it out. Thanks!
it’s great to hear more positive feedback about this game! i played it early on, either in early access or right when it released, and it was unfortunately a bit buggy and deterred me from playing it. i’ll have to come back to it soon!
One look at the protagonist, and I first thought, "Kokopelli? That one guy playing a horn plastered all over the freeways of Arizona?" Seriously, that's a real piece of folklore. ...well, it's either that, or the Pokemon Xatu.
Let's hope it's just a slow sales start and then it picks up steam later on. This is my current roguelite grind game and I'm really appreciating how quick a run can be.
omg this game looks so fun ! I'm the bigest ETG fan and I've been looking a new game like this since gungeon is way too easy now Btw Thanks really great video as always :)
I checked this out the other day randomly and saw it had a Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam. Not that many games on Steam get that type of rating now I see why
I almost beat what seemed like the last boss (multiple bosses attacking me) on my very first run. Only played for another 3-4 hours because it just wasn't as fun after that, and surprisingly it felt like I had already seen everything the game had to offer. Fun while it lasted though.
Understandable feeling. I sort of got that feeling after my first run too, but after doing a few more runs it really gripped it's claws in me personally. Shame it didn't do the same for you, but at least you enjoyed yourself for the time you did spend with it.
So what you're telling me is that the jump mechanic is the dopamine feature that will end my runs repeatedly because it's just too enjoyable to not do, got it.

I have yet to play; but my personal opinion on why the game didn’t make a bigger splash is its theme. Themes are essential for a game to be more “universal” while also being “unique”. BoI is unique on how toilety/blasphemous it is, while being consistent and universal with its religious themes. Nuclear Throne is a bit weird; but in the end it’s a clear post-apocalyptic story (and to be fair Nuclear Throne, although being my personal fav, represent just a fraction of the success of the other classics). Enter the Gungeon is a classic “fantasy dungeon” with a fun clear twist in parodying everything that spells “guns”. Dead Cells is your super vanilla fantasy epic adventure. Voidigo looks super interesting; but in the end is a super weird mish mash of cartoony stuff. This seems to be pretty much on purpose; but still, it lacks a cohesive theme that makes it more universal and easily recognizable and “shareable”. Not saying it is a bad theme! It looks super charming because of it. But still, it feels you need more cohesive and universal stuff. That and the fact it is rather new. As incredible as it is; there’s no doubt BoI is the classic it is because it released in a time without almost competition. Enter the Gungeon released at a time where you already had some roguelites; but the competition was low. 2023? Roguelites are still beloved; but surely not the hot thing anymore. And there’s like thousands of them. So now the bar is super high: you gotta either bring something super unique (more mechanically than aesthetically); or/and incredibly polished in terms of everything. Last roguelite big hits have been stuff like Hades, which has remarkable high production for an indie; the gameplay is admittedly quite smooth; and it has a super universal beloved theme (Greek Mythology). Or Vampire Survivors if it can be considered a roguelite? In which case it shook things a bit with a different style of gameplay. Again, just to be clear: the game looks appealing and cool to me; but I am just reflecting why it didn’t hit harder on a general level.
I've seen this game pop up on steam a few times but haven't really looked at it until this video, makes me think of dead cells a bit where at first the gameplay and even the graphics are really overwhelming until you figure out what's going on. Looks fun! On the topic of rogues with cool item mechanics, I like Blazing Beaks. It's also a top down shooter but it makes you collect bad items and hold onto them until you reach a shop, where you can trade them in for good items
I want to buy Voidigo but I don’t know if it’s coming to Switch or not. If there’s no switch port coming out any time soon then I’ll buy it on PC but if there’s a switch port in development I’ll wait
I dont know if its too late already. But i discovered a game call "godlike burger" free on epic for like 7 hours while writing this. Tbh i dont know what you think, even tho it had me laughing a lot and play it a lot. But it is super difficult
i personally played voidigo skipping the entire tutorial bc i have a big ass ego and man that was the best decision of my life i literally had no idea you could combo stomp and bosses roam around the map dawg when i found all of that out i was either screaming bc the boss went into the same room as me or i was amazed asf ALSO (spoilers i guess) the first phase where the boss chases you is the most fun shit of my life gud game :)
I've always despised roll mechanics in any game to the point where I used any dodge or roll skill given to me as purely a travel option, I always called it a "Bad players dislocation tool" because even if the top players always use it and it's "A noob mistake to not abuse it", to me it was just badly implemented no matter what and never felt good, even in Isaac when ever I got that charge double tap item I'll never actually use it as anything more than just a sprint button. Seeing a game take the dodge mechanic and give me the freedom to actually move where I want if I decide I dodged the wrong way is so... refreshing... it's such a small insignificant change that gives me so much freedom and control over my character that I never feel like I can possibly blame it for messing me over, and it made me actually enjoy messing up a dodge because I knew that if I got hit, it was ACTUALLY me being bad or mistiming it. In warframe it's kinda the same story, the second I learned about dodging I didn't even use it for fighting, I straight up just incorporated it into my movement pattern and completely forgot it had I-frames from how bad I viewed it, but you know what I always used to dodge? Bullet jump... The I-frame-less movement served me so much more over my time playing solely because I could instantly redirect myself and change my position. To make a long rant short, Dodging should feel like it's in the players hands, like it actually IS the players choice where they end up rather than just the direction they go to, going in a straight line is going in a straight line, doesn't matter if it has 4 ways, 8 ways or 360 ways, a player should always be able to choose their end point for it to feel good in both outcomes.
Super well said. Not being locked into a certain direction on dodge is such a small but significant difference in feeling like you have more control over your movement.
Have you played Rogue Glitch? That is one of the most unique rogues around. The beginning is bland and bad, but it has to be for the gimmick to blossom.
Oh it's VERY cool. I got it when it used to be free, but they're about to release it as a full game. I am so happy for the devs. I thought the game was abandoned, but here they are adding a few new bosses and a bunch of new abilities.@@sl1ppey
@@sl1ppey aw that sucks, you don't see roguelikes like this one very often, especially since it's sort of a dead genre, last roguelike i really enjoyed was enter the gungeon and i doubt anything will top that for me in a long time, but who knows maybe they will release Voidigo on console at some point, also good video, really enjoyed it! :))
A friend showed me during class, he was scrolling on itchio and at the time it was a free web game and so we'd tried it and instantly got hooked to it for months because of how fun the gameplay was. The reason it flew under the radar is probably because of how it looks which in my opinion isn't that bad. They also have a discord of the itchio page where the creator is taking suggestion though he is taking a break from updating the game.
I really like this game as well, although there is a single game philosophy I disagree with in the game, and that is the game punishing you for doing good Example: You have lots of hearts; you get less rewards by sacrificing them. You have lots of health; everything that drops health-replenishers are significantly reduced in drop rate, so you can't stockpile health for when you actually need it or for when there's a momma ghost, not to mention health practically being an important currency at higher difficulties. It's also annoying that you can get ragdoll trapped in a 2D game of all things
I think despite its goofy, and childish appearance it has tons of depth, something that isn't usually the case with rogues, they are more often than not an excuse to artificially extend very basic mechanics and small worlds, which only works on the surface.
Id suggest the biggest reaspn its not on the level of isaac or gungeon is just that the indie space is not crying out for the genre. Of the top 20 indie games of the last decade at least 3 would have to be twinstick roguelikes. They arent on the peak of the wave you know?
some days I really feel like that banana though.
Blink twice if you need help. I got the 1man army arsenal ready
It's OK sl1ppey everyone also feels like that banana sometimes , but you should seriously get help

I'm playing this just for the banana
Brb gotta go re-watch the Pink Eye episode of Kids Next Door now. Also, Kids Next Door Roguelike when?
Did you play patchquest?
Funny you mention it that was probably gonna be my next video if I find the time for it
Love this game!
have you played noita?
I have, and I liked it but I'm really really bad at it lol
Have you played Rogue Glitch? That is one of the most unique rogues around. The beginning is bland and bad, but it has to be for the gimmick to blossom.
This game looks really cool! Wishlisted.
Oh it's VERY cool. I got it when it used to be free, but they're about to release it as a full game. I am so happy for the devs. I thought the game was abandoned, but here they are adding a few new bosses and a bunch of new abilities.@@sl1ppey
will it ever be released on console?
No known plans for a console port at the moment :(
@@sl1ppey aw that sucks, you don't see roguelikes like this one very often, especially since it's sort of a dead genre, last roguelike i really enjoyed was enter the gungeon and i doubt anything will top that for me in a long time, but who knows maybe they will release Voidigo on console at some point, also good video, really enjoyed it! :))
Hey s1ppey could you try forebloomed i think you would have funtime with this roguelite
This is interesting. How'd you hear about this one? Seems like it flew completely under the radar.
I just wish Voidigo was available on a console cause currently I cant play on pc cause my laptop sucks
I really like this game as well, although there is a single game philosophy I disagree with in the game, and that is the game punishing you for doing good
Example: You have lots of hearts; you get less rewards by sacrificing them.
Play hyperspace dogfights please, its an incredibly unknown rougelike so id love to see it get known
Ooh this game looks cool. Wishlisted!
I need this game on switch SO bad
I agree muchly. This’d be perfect on Switch.
I think despite its goofy, and childish appearance it has tons of depth, something that isn't usually the case with rogues, they are more often than not an excuse to artificially extend very basic mechanics and small worlds, which only works on the surface.
Great video
Thanks a bunch!
Oh I love this game, one of my favorites alongside Risk of Rain 2, Revita (you should check this out), and Isaac.
Id suggest the biggest reaspn its not on the level of isaac or gungeon is just that the indie space is not crying out for the genre. Of the top 20 indie games of the last decade at least 3 would have to be twinstick roguelikes. They arent on the peak of the wave you know?
Definitely valid too. There definitely isn't a shortage of quality games in the genre now.
You should play OTXO
This looks like an interesting twist just based on setting alone. I dig it. Wishlisted.
@@sl1ppey It’s Hotline Miami: the roguelike. With a soundtrack I bought on Steam because it’s so good.
