excellent video lots of good info in it . This system should work on most any beaches after a storm ? What fish will you be after now that summer is winding down ? I hear the stripper bite with blitzs on montauk is on fire . Good luck have fun
Hey John, up on the cape, after storms I find we tend to have huge amounts of mung and/or other weed etc. It always seems to clog up my line and lures, making it next to impossible to work a lure. In this video you mention fishing right after the storm. So in my area, is that window of good action after a storm more likely to have passed if it takes 3 days or more to clear out the mung etc. ?? or can I still find active fish once time has passed after the storm?
John, you are the best fisherman , I wish I could catch as many fish ,I have been fishing for many years and never have caught a fish on the first cast unless it was a blitz situation and it was elbow to elbow , love your videos, I fish mostly in NJ cape may county , I am starting to think I should hit my old stomping grounds , Island beach state park ,Seaside
John, I've read several of your books, but don't recall a section on how to size reels to your fishing. Like why a 6000 here rather than a lighter 4000? Another popular kayak UA-camr will go as light as 2-3000 even striper fishing. Since braid makes getting spooled a remote possibility, what is the advantage of the bigger reel?
Is this a soft/slow action rod? I have a medium/fast action and I find it tough to get good action on poppers, takes a ton of effort. I put the my swivel at the very end of my leader and then attach the tactical clip to that, is this not recommended( why do you put the swivel between the leader and braid)?
slow action/moderate action rods are best used with treble hook lures like the tsunami talking popper the bending of the rod absorbs the energy and prevents hooks from being pulled out of the fishes mouth. Fast action rods are rods that bend at the top portion only and these rods have more backbone best used with bucktails and single hook applications to drive the hook into the fishes mouth .
John, after a storm like this what are you looking for location wise? Just general good structure as usual or are you trying to intercept leaving bait west of inlets? Thanks in advance
Sorry if I missed any explanation in the video, but did the post storm conditions or time of year lead you to use poppers instead of bucktails or a swimming lure? Any insights in terms of selecting lures for conditions always welcomed. I am still a neophyte and trying to stay simple but also want to be smart and more effective. Looks like you were well rewarded for rising early that morning.!
John, if you would share. What is the ring sizes of the guides on this rod? and what spacing? I'm building one like it and the info would help. Thanks.
Very well done. thanks for shared. I rear many surfcaster said exactly the same as you: not so many bass around. What you expect for the bass fall season?
why not power pro?and I need some help with weakfish in the long branch area.7 foot 6in mh 8lb dia pp and whatever artificial I can throw.love the vids,i'll ask about sea run browns later.thanks
Hi John. Love your videos. Quick question. On your video about talking poppers you start out with the Tsunami but then when you start fishing your using a Gibbs. I got confused as to how to retrieve a talking popper. Is it the same as a pencil popper?
John I am thinking of buying a few, xd;s I followed your recommendations, and modified the original tsunami plug, Do you think there Is that much difference in casting distance with the Xd, vs the modified original? Nice video as usual
I've have been keeping up with your videos and have learned so much from them. I like the rod. Never used lamiglass but it will be my next rod purchase. What action is it.
Yes, I forgot to mention the leader. There's a 3 foot leader of 50# mono or fluorocarbon with a barrel swivel to attach to the main line and a tactical angler's clip, 125#, to attach the plug.
Yeah definitely plus it's cheaper than fluorocarbon. Triline big game does it pretty good. I won't argue that fluorocarbon could be more effective in clear water conditions but in my opinion, if the fish can see the line it can see the big 2/0 or 3/0 hooks hanging from the lure .
Wonder what you were wearing - looks like light-weight waders w/a neoprene booty ??? Thanks - daytime North Fork is picky, tho' the dark-time sharpies don't tell ...
Yes. He is a lying Googan who made is grandmother buy all his gear. Word going around is that he's only caught one bass in his life. His words not mine.
HazardousDuke where did I wipe his video without giving credit? And my grandmother does not buy all my gear I buy a lot of it and I caught 4 bass 3 days ago

I heard after a storm, clams and food debris get kicked up which accounts for fish getting more active
hi rob kim it works on lakes why not the ocean ? thanks for commenting have a great day !!!

In my area the time after a storm just as the water clears is often good, especially if they're on bunker. Maybe same by you.
Nice film John as usual-we can only dream of fishing this good in Britain.
oh, and great video of SS Long Island with post-Hermine fishing. Jones Beach was a real potato patch of rough surf on Sunday 9/4. Left the gear home.
Great way to kick off the fall John!

tons of Bunker oil slicks but nothing under them
Hi John. Do you have any videos on how to read the water and/or what you look for in surf conditions?
Thanks!
During the day, birds and bait. At night look for bait in the water with your light. Those are usually indications that fish are in the area.
Choppy white water. You'll usually see one small area that's more rough. Fish there.
+xIEm1n3m thats true
Great, informative video. Thanks, John! Will try the techniques on lakes here in Texas. Fall and early winter are better for shallow at dusk.
John, do you think the Spirderwire braid you use on the Slammer 3, would be okay to use on the older Penn 5500SS reels?
this guy is a pro

Do you ever make appearances at Striperfest here in Falmouth Mass? Striper Cup has an event here!

Hey John! I was curious what size gibbs pro series popper i should use for fishing mainly montauk and south shore beaches like smiths point?
Great video John!
Thanks for sharing!
Could you please let us know which beach that is?
Thank you!!
No spot burning, as mentioned above, don't ask don't tell lol.
:)
he did mention where he was , go back and listen ,long island somewhere

Hey John
What are you wearing on your feet for the wading? Is it just hard soled neoprene booties? Do you need to use a gaitor to keep sand out?

Jj Forster outter banx

There is an old saying "There is a reason they call it fishing and not catching."
John Skinner is NOT a fisherman. He is a CATCHERMAN.
why not power pro?and I need some help with weakfish in the long branch area.7 foot 6in mh 8lb dia pp and whatever artificial I can throw.love the vids,i'll ask about sea run browns later.thanks

Hey John, does having the heavier version affect the action at all? Sorry if i missed you saying it during the video.
He said its still great in the video. Can't wait to try these out
If I had a fishing wish it would be to fish with you great job....
would u recommend a st croix triumph 10ft mh and a penn slammer 3 5500-6500?
That would work.
All of St. Croix's surf rods are good.
hey john great video again, i was wondering how fast are you reeling when you are doing the walk the dog action, thanks
I've have been keeping up with your videos and have learned so much from them. I like the rod. Never used lamiglass but it will be my next rod purchase. What action is it.
any colors you can recommend for jamaica bay with these plugs?
Smokey Joe , electro school bus and bone white with spot.
thanks!
Where on the island is this?? Smiths point?? Can I use this lure casting from boat??
John you ever use the Atom Striper Swiper popper?
Master !!!...
What do you use to attach the plug ?
Yes, I forgot to mention the leader. There's a 3 foot leader of 50# mono or fluorocarbon with a barrel swivel to attach to the main line and a tactical angler's clip, 125#, to attach the plug.
fluorocarbon line with A top water lure ? doesn't' fluoro sink? BTW loved striper pursuit thanks.
HOOKDUP when you pencil pop the leader is jumping in and out the water vigorously. It doesn't have to much time to sink like a straight retrieve.
oh ok . for me Whenever I use topwater like spooks or poppers I like to go either straight braid or mono leader.
Incoming or outgoing tide for after storm fishing?
Awesome 👍🏻ty
Where is this

Dan C is going to immediately quote this video pretending he knows about what you did here and give no credit.
lol
are you talking about Daniel c fishing?
Yes. He is a lying Googan who made is grandmother buy all his gear. Word going around is that he's only caught one bass in his life. His words not mine.
