There's little point in making stealth ships when synthetic aperture radar satellite systems exist. You can hide from the side or from above - but not both. Besides - half the time satellites can visually track surface ships. Submarines have already solved the 'Stealth at Sea' problem.

They are ugly looking ships and costs way too much! The money could of been better spent building another aircraft carrier or guide missile cruisers.
@@jimmykim4555 I would put every penny into building a couple million torpedos with a thousand mile range. Just saying. Capital Ships are museum pieces that will end up at the bottom of oceans. Surfce ships will be sitting ducks in a few months or less. -Q
To anyone who thinks Zumwalt is “outrageously expensive”, the cost to build each Ticonderoga-class cruiser, adjusted for inflation, was $4.41 billion. And all that did was slap Aegis onto an existing destroyer hull, unlike Zumwalt which quite literally shares nothing in common with other US warships.
High tech has always been expensive. We just previously lived in an era where it wasn’t so easy for the media to mislead people.
I agree that R&D is super expensive, but its still a failed implementation of a concept ship.

finest always has limited number.... so 1, 2, 3
ALL of these cost over runs go into the pocket of whatever military branch they represent. By doing this that branch of military can build other sophisticated, non needed weapons.

32 cost 9 Billion, then 3 cost 4.24 Billion EACH! $12.72 BN!!!! TOTAL FINAL COST: $22.5 BN...Only in America!
I see something very wrong here! How can an estimate be so far OFF? I can see going from 32 to 24...but from 32 to 3???? AN INVESTIGATION SHOUD ENSUE!
Because over half of the $22.5 billion total cost is R&D. Had the full class been produced, that would’ve been spread across all 32 hulls.
Oh, by the way, the cost of the Ticonderoga class cruisers, adjusted for inflation from 1979 to 2022, is $4.41 billion apiece. It’s almost like high-tech systems are expensive.

You dont tell me you are going to build me 32 something for 9 billion and then be like:, "Oh, hun, I dont know what I am building, so let me research it first...and by the way that research is going to cost you 12.74 billion plus the 9B."

No. The Navy decided to not buy ammunition that costs over 800,000 per round. The "advanced gun system" is an expensive, useless toy.

Apparently some of the components in these weapons is terribly expensive. I wish someone would give us some idea what these pricey parts are, and where we obtain them, because if the ships and planes are made in America, AND the components are from here also, then one person's cost is another's gain. So, if it all stays in the country, the money just circulates in the economy and benefits us both ways... more local purchases and a world's best assortment of weapons.
But, if we are buying much of the parts from overseas, then it really is too much even for the wealthiest nation. Guess it is impossibly difficult to get the actual breakdown. 😒
