I wrestled a blind kid back in high school. Special rules meant we had to have a point of contact at all times, and he was strong as fucking hell. After getting tossed around a bit for the first round and a half I put it into overdrive when I realized he couldn't really effectively defend my shots. Ended up winning a nail biter, but much respect to that kid. Wrestling is hard enough with 20/20 vision!

@@SmellGoodOnion Hopefully he's doing well. He was from a tough public school in a bad area in the Bronx. Already had a lot stacked against him, even without the blindness. Unfortunate there isn't a FloWrestling retrospective on him!

I was a HS wrestler and was watching our Jr Hi wrestle a meet. I was asked to referee some JV bouts. I reffed a bout with a blind kid from the other team, who won his match. Several years later I bumped into him again since we attended the same college. He used to run laps around the track. His roomie would hold a length of rope tied around Dave's waist to be sure they kept on track as they both did laps.David Hartman went on to become the first blind student ever to be accepted at medical school (Temple) where he was the first blind graduate.
There was a movie made about him.

i wrestled this kid before i wasn’t expecting how talented and hard working he was it was a great match witch taught me alot and motivated me even more

Love the coach saying "if I can make a difference in 1 kid's life than I've done what I want too." That's what I've been saying ever since I started coaching 6 years ago. This is a really great coaching staff and an incredible kid
Thanks so much for making this video. I shared this video with my autistic son who is on his high school wrestling team (which I coach) and it was the first real time he understood that it is not whether he wins, or not, it is how the experience of wrestling can prepare him for what happens next in life.
I have a girl on my wrestling team who has hearing loss. and everyone's astonished by the fact the she can learn things by visual act's
there is a school in my section that are a k-12 deaf school, being deaf doesn't mean they can't wrestle, a lot of em are studs
I mean wrestling is more about visual and spatial queues than hearing by a far stretch and it's not just wrestling its sports in general thats why they call it a physical sport because as long as you have a body you can do something physical.

As a former wrestler and coach myself, I know this kid is going to do well in life. Wrestling gives you life skills to survive anything. Great job to the coaches for giving this kid the guidance he so desperately wanted.

I’m a female wrestler, it’s my first year and seeing this makes me feel so happy, I wanted to quit many times because I felt like I wasn’t good enough but when you get your hand raised for the first time you want to keep on going. I think that after he kept getting his hand raised he knew wrestling was just right for him and that’s what made him keep going. Beautiful story.
Been wrestling for two years in high school so far archer high First year not that many wins I won 16 out of the whole year fun sport I love it and my team but some are moving in because they are seniors and I’m. A sophomore but I wish good luck to you in your matches

I'm a couple of years older than this kid, I'm in high school and he's 2 years younger than me and I think the most of this kid, everybody loves him. I've had classes with him in the past and he is the one of the most genuine and fun kids I know and is so pure of heart.

Very heart warming this video and as I do sports myself (Taekwondo and BJJ) it really makes me think about what I want from it and what I take for granted.
I think that wrestling in particular is one sport were a person visually impaired could compete and even excel in this sport. This was a great story of overcoming a physical impairment and showing those who do not have it that you still can compete in anything in life.

When I was in high school we wrestled the NM school for the blind. Those kids were STRONG. They were allowed to start touching hands, and they had a kung fu grip. No way once they had a hold of you that you were going to get away

So cool Mikey. I am an older, not so straight guy, with a hidden disability, who plays competitive basketball, so I get a lot of judgement. But, once they see I am an outside shoother and I make them long 3s, then they shut their mouth. Would like to meet you. You are an inspiration.
Coach does say he does to worry about laters ond whened support system is not at there more any but this boy has so muched ofed drive and internals fortitude that he will be successful no matters what does he choosed to do.

Paradise 111 yeah but the cradle is very hard to explain, even if you get him in you still need to learn how to keep it which is hard for some, overall it’s not a challenging move but it should be for a blind kid. I think that’s what his point was
