Failing the check changes things only slightly as long as you as a player choose to maintain some composure, in situations like this it will never not be painful.
I was SO worried about what Kim was gonna say about that performance, but of _course_ he was an absolute sweetheart about it. That man has OCEANS of patience.
This is so fucking sad, but ngl, Volition's desperate "No no, STOP. NOW!" to keep you from launching into a self-pity rant again and making the situation even worse is so funny. Volition is such a bro.
Not only is it the now the worst day of this person’s life, you’re the one who had to make it that way. No wonder they consider it the worst part of the job. That would destroy my soul.
This happened when I did it and It didn’t feel like failure. It felt like about the level of competence I would have trying to accomplish such an impossible task.
I went through and landed all of my checks, and it broke me. He said the best things he possibly could have, Kim had just the right interjections, she took it so bravely… And that’s what did it for me. The profound sadness the actress gave, the tender understanding and condolences of Kim, and the obviously uncomfortable yet professional and compassionate dialogue options.

this quest always gets to me because i have been in her situation and its the **exact** conversation we had with the police, when harry succeed in the check and if kim saves it like this. altho even when harry fails the check its not that bad i think. its usually two cops telling you and they can look to each other for help if they dont know what to do just like here.
It's also a very familiar reaction for her part. The initial denial, the numb pragmatism before it really hits you, worrying about how to tell the kids more than about herself... Yeah, this scene gets to me too
the thing about this is that kim has done this before. he KNOWS how hard it is. his own internal monologue probably didnt sound so different from ours. even if he's never fucked up a death report like harry just did, he knows that it would be so easy to, and for that, he doesnt believe that theres anything to forgive harry for. i love this game
I'm not sure how consistent they are with that. I feel like I've heard him call me officer even when he's not mad but maybe he just hid it well during those times.

I haven't specifically tried that but LOTS of stuff changes and becomes inaccessible after the tribunal so my guess is it's not even available. Interesting question, though. I might actually try that out.
Yeah and to second the above ^ a lot can go worse without Kim around and try to do stuff on your own (if you have him drive off to take Klassje or the body). He is usually a safety net of stability.

Oh god, that was painful to watch.
Tangentially: Kim is an absolute diamond of a man.
Facts.
What truly hurts in moments like this is not just the woman thinking "oh god, my husband is dead", it's "what am I going to do WITHOUT him?"
I've had to notify next of kin. That empathy check, "I don't want to", that hits way to close to home.

The most human game ever written ;)
That "he was just here" line destroys me every time I hear it that unspoken dire revelation. Also everybody needs a Kim

I love that you can still struggle through after failing the check, or pick the absolute clusterfuck options.

It’s insane how you could say some horrible things. I wonder how Kim and the lady reacts but I don’t think I could pick those options
