This video speaks to me, even if I never understood how someone can be bored. There is simply too much to do and wonder about. Nevermind books or music or learning and all those wonderful things on offer. I've sat and just stared at the moon and been amazed, not realising 2 hours went by. I've sat in my garden and passed hours just looking and thinking about the leaves and blades of grass and how they came to be. Even if i am stuck in a 'boring' work meeting, i will think about how everyone in the room is sharing this moment and how insane it is that our paths all came together at this point in time. I am awestruck everyday by simple things and do not need much in my life to feel fulfilled. Everyday being alive and healthy and experiencing this world is a success to me despite what society defines you should be doing
I think it would be mindset and situation. Like where I live its kinda shitty you can barely see the stars due to light pollution and the moon isn't even always visible so you look at nothing but a purplish void...The area itself is mostly buildings with little nature and of what there is you are gonna be disturbed by people with dogs. I don't even have a private garden. When I lived at home I used to sit on the roof with my cat and we'd watch the stars sunrise and sunset, those were genuinely good... As for work I can't help but endlessly think how pointless it is, the people barely consider your time valuable and thus waste hours of it doing nothing, theres very few jobs where you can work at your own pace. I wish societies definition of worth could be ignored but it affects a degree of your knowledge, comfort, food, experiences, friends, living conditions, job opportunities and if you had a bad job all the latter get worse. I just can't enjoy this world or moment without thinking of the next. Your lucky to be able to push past it all. I hope you always keep your freedom of your mind and go down this type of path.

I've JUST been thinking about this for the past two days. Getting used to boredom and becoming comfortable with it has definitely helped me enjoy _the moment_ more, focus on the important things and find or experience new interesting things I've never thought of before.
It's weird but honestly I don't think you should "find" something interesting, just be bored and your brain would want to focus on something, then you take action. I would stare at the wall for 1 hour and the whole time I'm not bored, my brain kept focusing on anything; the next thing I knew 1 hour past and I'm wondering if I should add another hour.

When I was a child, I wasn't surrounded by today's social media, phone, but I was happier than today's youngsters, because I had time to be outside playing, being connected with nature, being able to pursue my hobbies, passions, and desired profession. And yes, I had periods of boredom, but was more like a meditation than being bored.
Meditation and cultivating mindfulness have been life changing for me. I have not been bored in several years. I now recognize that those scenarios in which I used to be bored were simply my mind being out of control. When you truly learn to pay attention, every moment holds so much to absorb and experience.
Feeling that you always have to be doing something is an illness - relaxing in the moment , just an observer of everything around us and sitting in the middle of it as a small part, without trying to change anything or photograph it, document it ………. I have looked at the stars from when I was a child and I am now 69. Looking at those distant suns with their own planets circling them , imaging what is possible out there and how insignificant I am in the face of the universe. I am nothing but a momentary flash, I do not matter- none of us do. It has been said that we die twice- the first time when we physically cease to exist. But then once again, when the last person that remembers us dies. Enjoy the ride- that’s all this is.
I wouldn’t really call it an illness it’s just the result of capitalistic conditioning. They purposely implant ideas in your mind so that you would behave and act in ways that benefit corporations. They want you to constantly be doing things because it requires you to spend money. Notice how nobody is telling you to go camping or hiking and enjoy nature, it’s all just things that involve spending money in the city. They want you to feel like you are missing out and that unless you do what they say you’re "wasting time". The truth is everything could be seen as a waste of time, it’s just a matter of perspective. I personally find the idea insulting because even just being alive is an exciting and beautiful thing, how you choose to spend the time you are given here is up to you and there is no right or wrong way to do it.
This video came at a perfect time, I have been struggling with how overwhelming life has become and I think this outlines a good way to simplify, be present, and de-stress. Thank you!

How do you create these videos? My god! You've described how I've tried to live my life for the last 32 years!! If I even feel like boredom could be creeping up on me, I DO SOMETHING!!!! I'm currently participating in Lent, and I recently told a friend that what I gave up made me realize how bored I feel in life. I'm grateful to have such a fresh take on boredom, and will remember it every time I feel this way.
Imagine following a religion where your god commands his chosen people to commit genocide and utterly obliterate another tribe, such as the Canaanites, (but keep the young virgins women), imagine if the same god will slaughter babies (Revelations 2:22). And the examples are endless in the book you follow. Imagine following a god / leader / king that commands such atrocities. I wonder how depraved of a human one needs to be to follow such a deity ? Enjoy Lent.
@@sandoralik Lent is a Christian holiday in which people give up something they really enjoy to remember Jesus's sacrifice (he starved in the desert for 40 days). You may beguile some of the zoomers with your stories, but as a fellow 90s kid and a single child to boot, I call bullshit on that. I have always hated boredom, and I cannot think of a single moment when we didn't do something! If the weather was bad, we watched movies or played videogames or played with LEGOs . What's with some these comments that portray the 90s as the Stone Age populated by people who "embraced boredom" .?? We did have entertainment even before smartphones!

For over 15 years I had *that* life. Gorgeous partner, great social life, exotic travels, parties, drugs, etc. But I never felt like I ‘belonged’. I was just going through the motions. Now I’m 45, single, got me a little house in the burbs, I spend my free time gardening, going to the gym, reading, watching YT, and occasionally seeing my family. I’ve never been so content and happy being this boring. 😎
Definitely needed this video. Expatriated from my country a few years ago which I thought was impossible, and have been living a simple, fortunate life. At first everything was fine and exciting...but then the novelty wore off and I started feeling...guilt? every second of every day. Years ago I would've looked at my current life and thought "god I wish that was me" so why do I constantly feel guilty? I've still got a lot of work to do to extract my true self and thoughts from the distortions that have taken hold the past two decades with social media and all that.
sometimes, i prefer the stress, which can break my comfort zone, provide me with motivation and progress, in contrast boredom let me loss my determination to stick on one thing and get into self-indulge.
I spent a good deal of my 20s advancing my career through risky moves and learning to skydive, Paraglide, kitesurf, snowboard and traveling to mountainous Regions and idyllic islands to pursue these goals. While they were all exhilarating, none of them provided me with contentment. Then my daughter was born. And I sold my snowboard, and my paraglider, and focused on a stable career. Now I wake up. Spend time with my wife and daughter. Go to work. Go home. Spend time with my wife and daughter and sleep. And I have never felt so content.
I have always enjoyed boredom or being alone. I don't like to talk a lot but i rather be with myself. I do things that keep me away from being alone, but i really love to be on my own.
Strive to be happy forgetting all your worries and doubts not forgetting to always smile with a cheerful face. Live your life inspite of life, you'll be better for it.
It really made me reflect on how we perceive time and how we choose to spend it. It's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and feel like we need to constantly be on the go, but maybe the opposite is true. Perhaps, since our time is limited, we should slow down and simplify. The idea of stripping away all unnecessary spending of time and only putting back what we truly want and need is a powerful concept. It's important to determine what we believe is a valuable use of our time and only focus on those things. Thank you for sharing these thought-provoking ideas.
This is one of my favorite videos and perspectives that I keep returning to time after time. So well thought out and articulated. The end ALWAYS gets me… just sums things up so beautifully as a gentle reminder on these truths.
My parents used to say to me when I would say I was bored is that I must be a boring person. That taught me that I should be able to amuse myself to stave off boredom.
Been retired going on 5 years and have embraced complete boredom. Now I do have a few volunteer organizations that provide me a weekly social "fix" but otherwise, will hang out in my home that I worked hard to remodel and pay off. What I have noticed is those folks I do come in contact with look tired and older than their stated ages. I listen to all their activities planned, issues with the spouse or family and topical subjects going on in the world like I was a practicing psychologist mentally using a pad to take notes. The best part of every exchange comes when they ask what I do. My response? "I do absolutely nothing and live an uneventful, boring life." The initial look on their faces is priceless and the follow up questions like; "No, seriously, what do you do for fun." OR.. "You must do something to pass the time." adds to the enjoyment even more. My current lifestyle hardens back to when I was a child and approached each day as a new adventure. No stress, no debts and plenty of food to eat when hungry. Life is good...
"Life is long if you know how to use it" is something I've said to myself in self-talk at least twice since I last rewatched this video, and that was probably yesterday. This quote is way important as a slogan for fanning away distractions and laziness and I think I could use it as an affirmation to help railroad-switch the train of my life onto a track that takes me to growth and improvement, God willing

I had a shower thought about simplifying things internally like why I really wanted what I did, and I find it a beautiful tragedy that I get to live this life in this moment. I’ll never remember quite where I began and I’ll also never know when exactly I’ll end. And that is a fucking gorgeous thing that we all experience (:
If anything, I haven't really felt bored lately but I have been moping a lot and feeling depressed on a regular basis. There is nothing anybody can do about it though. I've got to want to do things that will consistently benefit my well-being. I haven't been trusting myself a lot lately and a lot of my friends have had a deep level of sorrow for me. But again, I don't think it's anybody's responsibility except for mine to get myself on the right track. I have felt alienated by a lot of people but I have had to distance myself from others that have hurt me on a emotional and spiritual level. It's nothing I feel like i have been able to completely surmount...but I am doing my best to not allow certain types of exterior forces and vibes to get the better of me. Lately I feel like it's been happening a lot more than ever before, and I hold myself to highest level of accountability possible...no matter how much certain people and things frustrate me sometimes.

I've JUST been thinking about this for the past two days.
Getting used to boredom and becoming comfortable with it has definitely helped me enjoy _the moment_ more, focus on the important things and find or experience new interesting things I've never thought of before.
What does new interesting things include?
I am thinking of it too but don't know where to start.

It's the 26th country for a year from where I'm watching your videos. Nepal. Namaste. THANKS

What's Lent?
@@sandoralik Lent is a Christian holiday in which people give up something they really enjoy to remember Jesus's sacrifice (he starved in the desert for 40 days). Here's an excerpt from britannica: "Catholics and other Christians often choose to give up specific pleasures, such as sweets, alcohol, or social media during Lent...many use their cravings or desires for these items as a reminder to pray and to refocus on spiritual matters." :)

"Perhaps the most successful amongst us are those who very few will ever know".
Very thoughtful
My heart has been whispering this to me all along. How validating 😊.
sometimes, i prefer the stress, which can break my comfort zone, provide me with motivation and progress, in contrast boredom let me loss my determination to stick on one thing and get into self-indulge.

Thank you. I agree with most. I applied many of the things you mentioned already and my life improved a lot already.
Thank you for making this video, as someone who enjoys the quiet it’s good to know that others out there feel the same

This is one of the messages I got from a hypnotherapy session. "Simple is still beautiful."
"I do absolutely nothing and live an uneventful, boring life."
The initial look on their faces is priceless and the follow up questions like; "No, seriously, what do you do for fun." OR..
"You must do something to pass the time." adds to the enjoyment even more.
My current lifestyle hardens back to when I was a child and approached each day as a new adventure. No stress, no debts and plenty of food to eat when hungry. Life is good...
You're the man

"Life is long if you know how to use it" is something I've said to myself in self-talk at least twice since I last rewatched this video, and that was probably yesterday. After acceptance of monotony. The realization of people who constantly chase "fun" or any form of external-stimuli is quite noticeable.
It exudes the fact that they are actually trapped into their minds and are afraid of relaxation. Because relaxation or equanimity reveals you to yourself, your past traumas within you, that has been suppressed.
Don't be afraid. Because, after you accept all the aspects within you; looking far out into the distance, with ease is so rewarding. More rewarding than any external-stimulants you have ever known.
The amount of time is really not something that matters. Because we are wasting most of it. So right.
