Being bored is a good thing. You need time to reflect on yourself. And if you always have social media or some crap akin to that you lose that retrospective on yourself.
In my mind boredom has always been synonymous with depression; boredom is the sensation caused by the realization that your life is meaningless and you have no proper task that grants a feeling of fulfillment. Particularly in the case of having little to no romantic and/or social life, leaving you to your own devices, which often include monotony: playing a video game you've already beaten, listening to music you've already heard, falling into other addictive patterns that provide some measure of temporary entertainment to distract you from the soul-crushing reality of a universe within which nothing you do truly matters. Boredom is the disease of the intelligent, because as they say, ignorance truly is bliss.
+Austin Crews You just said all I felt, just more beautifully then I could've put it myself. Try embracing the depression rather than seeing it as a negative thing. Reality only begins from there.
THe intelligent realize their lack of worth as human beings. the ignorant feel it but deny it and continue socializing with others who refuse to accept it.
That story about Genie made me cry. That whole story says a lot about not just the depths of human psychology but also the wide spectrum of evil behaviour.

As someone who has spent so much time by myself for reasons like this, I've come up with so many ideas and play things out in my head all the time. I do suffer from depression and anxiety, but after years of using that spare time to sit there and just think, I actually do feel a better understanding of myself, others, how others see me, and the world around me, without the act of judging anyone or anything instantly. But it seems anytime I get the motivation to push myself, life pushes me back, so idk but maybe someday, when things don't jump in the way the second I decide to take a step forward, I'll get the chance to spread my wings.
I just came back to this during a qualitative study on player retention in games. I was so surprised to see flow theory show up because I just learned the name for it in class! I also found good info about expectancy theory, which can be used to discribe how the bored brain evaluates if a task would actually be fulfilling enough before taking part.
Tricky Jost Nope. Telling people to sub and like isn't gonna make them sub and like. They're gonna like if they like it and sub if they want to. Not just because the OP said to.
Tricky Jost Asking for subscriptions and likes never does anything, if somebody wants to they will and vice versa. Regardless, if you dislike swearing on the internet you should really just turn off your computer.
Geusteer You really haven't visited many sites or really found the best uses for the internet if you think you should turn the computer off if you don't like swearing. The internet is full of knowledge (granted full of bs too, but I am talking about going to the right places here) that you can use to learn to do a lot of different things.
The Helmaroc King One theory states that because the conscious has nothing to do, if a signal from the subconscious is picked up the conscious brain will spin it out of proportion and generate dreams.
I've recently come to think that dreams are generated by the brain going through thoughts as it usually does, but without any specific (or easily understandable) purpose, thus doing it almost in a random way. Also, when you're asleep, you're still able to catch stimuli, but since not all of your senses are at work, and some of them aren't even at their full potential, what we see and feel in the dream is completely different from what's actually going on. It even happens when you're close to falling asleep, or when you just woke up. Your mind is sluggish, slow, clumsy. Someone might tell you something but you're just not in the right mindset, and misunderstand the situation completely.

Skillshots Yes, but, you generally don't perceive those fantasies as outside of your head. I can picture an imaginary person walking into my room, for example. I can see the space where they'd be, hear what they'd be saying, BUT the fantasy is still firmly IN my imagination, IN my head. It's different when those hallucinations are perceived as external, when you actually hear a voice that's not in your head, for example.I think Ken2234 was trying to say (albeit poorly) that he has such a strong imagination that it transcends that boundry between the interior and exterior worlds.Look up Tulpas...it's something a bit more than a vivid fantasy. It's interesting to note that people with schizophrenia have the same neurological processes going on, except that it's out of their control.
3:10 Yeah, I definitely feel like boredom usually ends up in positive things, because when bored, I start thinking about doing (productive, somewhat fructiferous) stuff that I would definitely refuse doing if occupied. It's like, now that you have lots of spare time to fill, you start thinking about things that you wished you had time for when you didn't have that much spare time. Of course, boredom also allows you to calmly meditate about yourself and things happening in your life. So, yeah, having a healthy dose of boredom is always a good thing!!
some days ago i was doing sports at a club with some other people from the club and then somebody tried to jump over a fence and fell which hurt his leg (jumping over the fence was part of the training) and as everybody was standing like super serious face i just burst into laughter XD, luckily i quickly stopped laughing and put my serious face on together with all the others, im a bastard XD
Bergson wrote an essay about laughter that addresses "getting hurt". You should read the first few chapters. I don't remember much, mind: Let's take Wily Coyote as an example (quite fitting, actually). We laugh at the coyote because he is a desperate fanatic (as in someone who keeps perpetuating his effort even having forgotten his aim) and always gets hurt and fails in his objective. His skinny and colourless appearance and bloodshot eyes represent the fact that he is a failure. The idea of the superiority theory is that we feel joy because we perceive ourselves to be superior to the Coyote. An important detail in the theory is that it is only possible when emotional involvement is suspended. We can only laugh at a character if we somehow overcome our sympathy for it and begin to see the mechanic nature of his behaviour. A behaviour which, as Pirandello also said, is the "contrary" of what it should have been. We laugh at the contrast between what happened and what should have happened (same reason we laugh at video game bugs btw) because laughter is a corrective phenomenon born to humiliate the character and make it behave as it should. There's more, but it's too long to write down, read the essay. Hope this helps.
Boredom comes from the belief that theres a future moment better than the present one. If you can bring yourself fully in to the present you can save yourself from boredom, and this is something you can try for yourself.

Boredom is the disease of the intelligent, because as they say, ignorance truly is bliss.
you just described me perfectly... this is why i started getting high... the euphoria... yeah... 😐
+Austin Crews You just said all I felt, just more beautifully then I could've put it myself. Try embracing the depression rather than seeing it as a negative thing. Reality only begins from there.

The German word is more descriptive. It's "Langeweile" - which literally means "long while".
"while" means "während", not "weile". In my opinion "Langeweile" is related to "lange verweilen", which means "stay for a long time". "Langeweile" is what you feel, when time doesn't seem to pass, because nothing interesting is happening.
@@menyasavut3959 Здра́вствуйте! Actually, it does mean both, I suppose. As a quick example "That took (quite) a while!" could be translated to "Das hat eine (ganze) Weile gedauert!"; but, now that you mention it, I think "verweilen" is the root of "Weile".

Could this be an explanation for dreaming? When you're asleep there's nothing for the brain to do so it makes up stuff.
The Helmaroc King One theory states that because the conscious has nothing to do, if a signal from the subconscious is picked up the conscious brain will spin it out of proportion and generate dreams.
Yeah, it's related. He has another video on dreaming.
heh ye
The Helmaroc King i met leafy when i dream

It's like, now that you have lots of spare time to fill, you start thinking about things that you wished you had time for when you didn't have that much spare time. Of course, boredom also allows you to calmly meditate about yourself and things happening in your life. So, yeah, having a healthy dose of boredom is always a good thing!!

u spell wrong
@@redstoneglitch4688 yeah
What is speech
@@The_True_Guy_Who_Asked Or, what causes speech?
i have one question why is it funny when somebody gets hurt?
Because it is not your body getting hurt
its because sometimes our hormones (might be spelled incorrect) change our emotions by mistake.
some days ago i was doing sports at a club with some other people from the club and then somebody tried to jump over a fence and fell which hurt his leg (jumping over the fence was part of the training) and as everybody was standing like super serious face i just burst into laughter XD, luckily i quickly stopped laughing and put my serious face on together with all the others, im a bastard XD
Bergson wrote an essay about laughter that addresses "getting hurt". You should read the first few chapters. I don't remember much, mind:
Let's take Wily Coyote as an example (quite fitting, actually).
