I remember my first time at biscuits, yeah hockey pucks. Grandma made biscuits every day too. She had a huge hand carved oak bowl that contained the flour. She would dig the well, a jumbo sized egg of shortening, sprinkle on the salt, baking powder and cream of tarter. mash the flour in and then add the cream from the previous evening milking. then knead it. all in that huge bowl. I wish I had that bowl and skill she had.
I'm 75 years old and have been making biscuits since i was 20 years old. I am fortunate to have White Lily soft winter wheat self rising flour. My family loves my biscuits with a slab of pork tenderloin in the middle of them. My mother in law taught me how to make good biscuits.
@@lindasaffles4189 Yes! White Lilly flour is wonderful and the best for full fledged biscuit making! Unfortunately, it’s just like the Formula L here in Maryland. Hard to find. I always stock up with White Lilly when we travel south. Bet your biscuits are amazing!
Habbersett Scrapple is delicious and the only brand I will buy! Also, the Original is the only flavor we enjoy. It is made in the city where I was born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania since around 1863. I have lived in Florida since 1959, but I remember when Philadelphia was beautiful and people were lovely! In Florida, I purchase it in Publix. There’s a trick to cooking it, and that is to place slices without slices touching in a cold frying pan, and cook on low slowly undisturbed about 4 minutes until you see it browned around all edges. Turn it over and continue cooking for 3 to 4 minutes!
@@christinawhite9256 A fellow scrapple lover! What a nice memory. I’m surprised you can find it in Florida but so happy you can enjoy it there. I don’t think I’ve seen Habbersett brand before, but I’m going to be on the look out for it now! Thanks for the cooking tip ❤️
It’s difficult where I live too but I can find it at Food Lion if you have one of those near. If I see it when we’re on vacation I tend to stock up on that and White Lilly Flour. You’re right. They make the best biscuits! Thanks for commenting ❤️
I didn’t either for many years until I just kept watching videos of others doing it and kept trying. It finally kicked in. You can do it too! I agree with the comment about the drop biscuits. Just add a little more buttermilk so they are a little more wet and then just drop by spoon on to your baking tray. Good luck! Let me know how they turn out ❤️
Yes, Crisco is the best for making biscuits in my opinion. That’s what’s so nice about this mix. It already has the leavening agents and shortening already in the mix.
Thanks so much for asking! Scrapple is a breakfast item found locally in the Mid-Atlantic area, mostly Pennsylvania and Maryland. It’s just so common for us I guess we assume everyone knows about it. I think it originated from the Pennsylvania Dutch. It’s made from the scraps leftover after butchering a hog. It is often referred to as “everything but the oink.” It’s boiled and then ground and mixed with flour, cornmeal and spices and pressed into a loaf like shape. To eat it you just slice some off, dust it with flour and pan fry it. It kind of tastes like a mushy sausage. People either really enjoy it or they don’t like it at all. I happen to love it! Thanks again!
My niece just made some gluten free biscuits for Christmas dinner. I had one and it tastes pretty good. It was a drop biscuit. I’ll have to see if I can get her recipe
I will be trying this

Love to have country ham our apple butter
Oh yes! Country ham. Perfect!
Add crisco to batter

Butter and honey, or a sausage patty or gravy.
Love them all too!
Try some ham and cheese bits.
And I say yes to that! Yum 😋

That’s my favorite too!
Still trying to make gluten free biscuits that don’t resemble hockey pucks.🙄
