In THIS corner we have a legend of the high performance parts world. Steve Dinan knows every bolt and pipe of his 2020 BMW M8, a freshly evolved version of the classic M6 coupé with 900 horsepower to the crank and all wheel drive! In THAT corner Jose from the Bay’s a legend in his own right with his slick Pontiac GTO. It was built up for drifting with an LS3 engine, a Stage 2 T56 transmission and 830 horses, but swap in some grippy tires and it’s ready to drag. In a head to head race, who’s gonna come out on top? The Hoonigans, that’s who! Enjoy.

I haven't heard someone speak about the car so meticulously, confident, and thorough like Steve did in a while. Also with pure passion like a little kid giddy about something new. The man is a genius

You should have a listen to Matt farah’s most recent podcast with Steve. The knowledge and passion he has is incredible; I learned so much about suspension setups just from listening. I’ve got an old 2000 E39 M5 that was heavily modified by Dinan back in the day, and it still holds up to this day.

I had the pleasure of meeting Steve Dinan years back when he was visiting my city. It was a wonderful experience meeting this man; his kindness and knowledge are not common to find.

This did somehow just become one of my new favorite episodes. The last call for donuts, the sound of that Pontiac, the new m8 that they just skimmed over, not too mention its tuned by a legend who is back in the game to wreck shop!
I always enjoy these, but between Dinan's passion and the pure sound of that GTO, my cheeks hurt from a constant smile.

THAT was a GOOOOOD match-up! I knew the M8 was gonna drag the hell outta the GTO from a dig. However, I didn't think the roll races would be THAT entertaining! It makes sense, though... I'm pretty sure that gutted GTO is significantly lighter than the M8. That M8 weighs right at 4500 pounds.
AWD vs RWD from a dig will always be tough unless the guy in the RWD is ridiculously good at launching
I think the M8 owner is being very deceiving on his HP claim. I bet he's rocking around 1100 to the wheels.

plus m8 had to distribute power on all four wheels where the ls only had to distribute the rear.

Steve really is a genius, hearing him talk about the M8 you can really tell the man is extremely knowledgeable was a good race, was rooting for the M8 all the way.
Hes built and tuned 20 plus cars 4 me over the years, my new m5comp runs 1005 on stock tires. Its hilarious. Guy is so nice too. In 80s he would just send you parts and a bill weeks after. No one does that..
The designers at BMW did sooo well when making the 8-series. I'm so glad they didn't slap their shitty outrageous grills on it that are on practically every other model
i think they did a really good job modernizing the 90's 8 series into a cool looking powerfull sport luxury coupe.. unlike the new 4 series bmw which looks like it was designed by a french on steroids and cocaine
Pretty good marketing gimmick. Make every other car so butt-ugly that people are practically begging to drop 150k on your only car that doesn't make people throw up on sight.

I'd also love to see that, but the Barra (and the SOHC 4 litre before it) aren't exactly fair against most other 6's, they are very much in the V8 league for torque and make almost all of it from idle. Might be a better race to put it against an LS/coyote/hemi

I owned a 2006 GTO, Brazen Orange. sold it at 8k miles because of the inability to get a grip.
I had a Squire Turbo set up, Corsa Sport, Ceramic Custom Headers, Pedders full suspension amongst a shit load more mods. Almost 18k into it.
I’m happy to see this perform well and that my issues weren’t unique. It was a beautiful car and the fit and finish was incredible for a $31k car.
I got a lot of attention in that car! miss it!
Last thing, Steve clearly knows drag racing, he seems like an information junkie. So, him saying he's never drag raced is probably accurate, but he's probably watched hundreds or thousands of hours of it. He's probably been at DINAN tests where they dragged cars, etc as well. You can be an expert on something without ever having done it, and that pre-training pays off. I've done it so many times, it always blows the minds of the people who hear it's your "first time"

The stock 6.0 GTO…. I think ‘05 ..was the fastest I’ve ever driven…it was a beast of a car straight from the factory.
And for the 32k price tag you got soo much for your money, no other car out there had that much bang for the buck.
