    NOTE: I do realize people don't seem to think that this special is as bad as it once was. When I was editing this, that was the general opinion of the special at the time. Changes in the meta and the buff it got could have changed its placement in the meta.

    My buff idea: if you’re hit by the Screen, all the other players, names, and weapon icons will get smudged out making it harder to tell who’s an enemy or an ally. 😉

    i think making it more transparent to your own team would be a really good change. screen just dont let your backliners aim so sometime it is negative to your own team when you use itt.

      I know everyone wants bloopers for some reason, i dont think tis a good idea to make things totally blocking ur screen, atm u can still see everything just fine, every little detail and at all ranges, on the whole screen, the black and white is just a little destracting and u need to focus harder to spot things, blooper ink would literally cover u up and make so u cant see things, even if u had the skill to see it in black and white, if u had a blooper on ur screen u would literally be unable to fight bcs u cant aim at people, that is not a good idea, it would make things way too unfair and also super annoying and lame to play against

      Please! I like Screen (it’s on Squeezer and Flingza) but I can’t play it with my friend who mains E-Liter since it really screws up her aim

    I think a decent alternative to flat out removing the static noise would be to replace it with something, maybe the bubbling sound effect from the loading screen? Also, I'd make it so bullets either lose damage or lose velocity when traveling through the screen

    What would’ve been more interesting is instead of the screen debuffing you with a grayscale effect, it instead confuses your ink colors with the enemy colors, like maybe it turns the enemy ink colors into your own or vice-versa, with just a tiny bubble effect in the enemy ink and clear outlines between your ink and the enemy ink so differentiating it is still possible. It makes the visual disorientation effect much more prevalent as you can’t immediately tell what is your own turf

      Love the idea.
      It would make getting hit from the screen more threatening risking confusion when taking the effect in a middle of a fight scuffle.
      My was thinking of adding a toxic mist effect similar to the Wave specials that locate people only for a few seconds.” When setting it down.

    I have noticed a lot of people saying that you should be able to see through the screen if it's your team's screen. I was going to put that in the video, but I thought against it. My reasoning for this was because a lot of people really don't like dying from something that they can't see or react to very fast, specifically from Trizooka. I thought that it would be really annoying if you get one-shot comboed from a Crab Tank or sniped by an E-liter or something, and there was no way for you to see them because there was a screen in front of them, but they could see you perfectly fine. The best way I've thought of to fix it is to make it so you have to be a certain distance away from the screen to see through it so stuff like that doesn't happen from across the map. I'm not too sure though, let me know what you guys think.

      @troopgaming9008 you made a valid point. i changed my mind. i think a reverse thermal ink would be an interesting idea. if they are close enough, you can see them but you cant if you are too far away. it would allow weapons like flinza and .52 to shark behind the screen while weapons like e liter cant snipe you from half the map behind a screen

      I think there’s two options for this, either the screen becomes transparent at stealth jump range, or players become highlighted through the screen (which limits your teams depth perception and doesn’t show if they’re behind objects, so they likely won’t be sniped.)

      splatters colors on your screen.

    It's INSANE to me that they didn't think about making it transparent to your own team, like it's just a visual issue, even for the one who uses it

    I’ll go ahead and add my own take on fixing the special to make it more unique and provide more than just visual clutter:
    - Removed static noise and brightness change from Screen’s effects
    - Reduces volume of all noise while under Screen’s effects by 50%
    - Grayscales and puts a CRT scanline overlay over the affected player’s screen
    - Glitches out the affected player’s weapons, preventing the activation of specials
    - Reduced contact damage to 35.0
    It’d be fun to make it a much less powerful special on its own, but making it used to prevent other specials from being used, especially ones like Tacticooler and Trizooka. I was gonna have it also prevent sub weapon use, but that sounds a bit too powerful imo.

      the disabling other people's special weapons wouldn't be balanced in my opinion. that would make it more powerful than any other special due to the advantage that would give. closet thing we have is Ink Vac, which makes some specials ineffective within a narrow range, but doesn't prevent their activation, which already combats almost every lethal special if used properly, while still affecting less than what you described with the color screen. I do like most of the other suggestions though

      Don't remove the brightness decrease, otherwise you're returning to the original screen where it was basically a flashbang - it made everything really bright and hard on the eyes
      (because deep neon ink colours just became pure white)

      @@thecelestialstarship That’s fair, I thought that the original increased brightness but upon further inspection, it kept it the same.
      How about no brightness change, but it does decrease Saturation to 5 like usual but also significantly decrease Value? Not enough to make them all the same shade of gray, but enough to mellow out blacks and whites. In other words, a full grayscale filter rather than a basic desaturation.

    The recent screen buffs do have some good use, especially for me as an Undercover Sorella main. The 40 damage buff now allows me to combo screen's damage with my torpedoes, which do 60 damage. And the recent object damage buff can make it plough through objects ahead of the screen. For example, let's say there is a beakon on the other side of a wall, the screen can bypass the wall, hit the beakon on the other side, and destroy it.
    It's clear to me that Nintendo really wants to make screen a better special but are unsure of how to go about that.

    I agree with the sound being muffled, Nintendo should’ve done that too when they adjusted the brightness of the greyscale transition because bright lights like a flashbang hurt my eyes but I never had an issue with the special before it got adjusted because I would swim around it if possible

    As someone who also made a video on reworking screen, it was nice too hear what other ideas people have
    However I’m a little opposed to making screen deal 50 damage as that probably makes it too strong as you can’t back up if you pass though it and it allows screen to hold way more space than it should in my opinion

    Theres more ways of making this special more effective and healthy than the amount of times this special has made an impact in the game (5 times, still counting)

    i loved the video the buffs made sense and the sound change was creative. what i would have done differently is explaining the video for a shorter time since the main part really only started around four minutes, and i think you should change the thumbnail because most people who clicked probably did only because of the title. i also liked the music and editing it was very clean. I am going to subscribe!

    Couldn't've we just made it a proper shield that blocks ink attacks and balance that by cutting duration down ?(it'll cover the same/similar distance as the current splatterscreen so it'll move faster, this prevents it from lingering over chokepoints/being in good positions for too long)
    And if you think this will just make big bubbler redundant, can't we just give big bubbler the ability to stop your opponent from walking inside of it?(as well as giving it a radius and health buff but also reducing its duration) Then it also might actually suck less as well without being used to stall too much as well.
    big bubbler wouldn't prevent the opponent from walking inside the bubble if:
    1.The rainmaker is in the big bubbler (applies if your teammate has the rainmaker).
    2. The tower is in the big bubbler or big bubbler is placed on tower.
    3. The big bubbler is placed in the opponent's clam basket area.
    4. The big bubbler is placed on the spalt zone.
    5. The big bubbler is placed too far into the enemy's spawn (i.e. next to the spawn ledge)

    I absolutely love these buff ideas, temporarily lowering the volume of people hit by it would eliminate the sensory problems of the special. Buffing the damage and speed would make it a much more viable combo, and marking the enemy hit by it would make it a much more effective deterrent.

    Hear me out: Instead of gray scaling, make it so that everything (Except the person hit by Splattercolor screen) is delayed. That's far more disorienting.

    I feel like instead of making it a point sensor type of effect, the enemy team shows up on the screen sorta like thermal ink but through the screen. either that or straight up allow you to see by making the screen more transparent i guess but I feel like the thermal ink idea would be more practical because then it is very easy to see the opposing team instead of trying to see them through the semi-transparent screen

    Would love if my team could see through the screen and it only blocked enemy vision, maybe getting hit by it could mute all game audio and make all the ink on screen the same color.

    And if I want to add buffs to splatter screen, is that instead of greyscalling effect when ur hit, your screen turns into the colour of the screen which is opponents colour ofc and make it zoom in and out and in and out

    i honesty have always wanted it to make u do reverse controls, but that would be easier to combate the higher player you are, new players r gonna be dead with reverse controls, but pro players could navigate it fine

    As a cp player, who knows quite a couple of players, that have issues with the special, I must say, that at this current point buffing the screen would be seriously problematic. This is also why i part more, part less disagree with your propositions. (Like giving a gal a one shot combo is a terrible Idea, as you often times can't defend against it anyways due to lags and ping, which already lead to an insane killpower). Yet you gave some seriously good Ideas on reworking the special like muffling the audio cues instead of the static noise, which is what i have quite some issues with personally, despite usually not being that sensitive to sound. Aside that, adding the marker effect on targets passing the wall, is in my Opinion a good Change as well. One Idea from me to maybe add to it would be a visual rework. The idea of greyscaling is in my opinion good, but Nintendo went from a flashbang to a nightmode effect. So maybe, it would be an option to make the team colors a light-dark contrast while greying the map out and removing textures and post processing of it, so you can still distinguish between important visual information and arbituary map details, which is really hard for quite a lot of players.

    i would like to just say as a person affected :
    THANK YOU for giving a warning before showcasing it, that is very, very, VERY, nice and i am thankful for that
    (also, 2:19 it doesn't just become *basically* unplayable, it becomes unplayable, i cant think, i am shaking and crying, and it lasts too long for the effect)
    also, here is how i would go about fixing it:
    PRE NOTES:
    things in a game should only effect the ingame character, NOT THE ACTUAL PLAYER, doing things like this is risky, and nintendo fucked up the way they did it, and any sudden change like it currently does is too much for people who over stimulate, VERY important in a game about movement and speed.
    1: the speed change does seem nice, but maybe a little too fast, 1.2 X is probably better
    2: the effect from color and sound either does nothing, or hurts you, PHYSICALLY, so instead of doing, whatever the hell this is, we should give it the same effect as disrupter from splatoon 1, but 0.8 X as effective because it would be broken otherwise
    3: having high damage makes sense, but having it imedietly happen would be bizarre, what i think would be nice is if it did 50 damage, another thing is making it so the damage would be less the closer to the end of the special it is, being within the first 1/8 of the special, it caps at 50 damage, but at the last 1/8, it caps at 25. another thing is that even with the damage values, instead of instantly applying to make it more reactable, it gradually deals .2 damage every frame so the combo potential is there, and provides more of a threat to backliners as it puts them at an immediate threat.
    4: making the screen have constant paint output would make sense, dont understand why they did that, but instead of painting constant amounts, make it paint less the longer the special lasts.
    5: another patch would be that it weakens enemy shots when they shoot through it, making it worse at turfing, and dealing less damage in a similar way to the painting and damage of the special, it will be stronger at protecting near the start, weaker at the end, i think this gives for more of a supportive role and even in frontliners, like dualies or brellas, it can give good potential
    this is just a mix of ideas to, you know, make the the special NOT ass, anyways, these values can be adjusted to make it more balanced but i find that this would be more strategical and more fun than the piece of garbage we currently have

    My biggest problem with screen is that its anti-fun. The grayscale effect and static are obnoxious, not being able to see half the map is annoying on both sides, and all it really does in its current state is slow down a teamfight

    a 50 damage buff is ridiculous. 40 is plenty. it would be absolute hell if 52 comboed with screen. it already is an extremely overtuned main weapon and comboing with it would only make it even more busted. it would not be healthy for the game.

      Don't diss my homie Wavebreaker, while it's easy to avoid in normal modes, it's a must in Salmon Run (ie distant revives, glowflies, goldie hunt, etc)
