Just an idea for you... when I put the 2/0 cables from the battery into the inverter, I cut the excess 2/0 cable so that there was less excess wire (in the box) to "snake" around the conduit box... especially since I had to add terminals to the cable anyway. This also has the added benefit of shortening the wire run run for the battery to inverter.

This is great! I'm going to be installing a EG4 18kPV inverter with 2 EG4 indoor batteries hopefully next month. I have 13kW of solar that will feed it.

Really nice overview. First time somebody has opened up the case to show us the battery. How is the fan noise on that inverter? Seems unduly loud for something that's inside the house.
It is fiber cement backer board, used for installing ceramic tile. I painted it black with outdoor latex paint to make it look better. The inverter requires a non combustible mounting surface.
It is fiber Cement board painted black. The inverter is supposed to be mounted to a non-combustible material. So I needed something between it and the wood.

When you say it runs down to 20% overnight, does that include air conditioning as the main draw? Seems like it is a lot for when things are normally off like the range/oven and laundry.

Thanks for another great video. I looked up the EG4 indoor battery for temperature range and it seems to have a high temp limit of 133F which makes it stay in my house in the Texas heat. Not that is a problem. I have a question - the cost for the power wall device seems to be higher than going with server rack batteries. I do like the connections and how it looks but to get to 60kWh it would take a few of them (not sure if I could stack more than 3 of these 14kWh together). Also they seem to be limited in where you can deploy them where a server rack battery can be thrown in a truck to go mobile or an RV (of course 5kWh per battery in that case). So the main advantage of the wall mount is that it is attractive and wife friendly. What are you comments on my comparison? All the best from north Texas!
The new lifepower 4 server rack batter is $1200. 3 of those is $3600. A 3 - slot server rack to mount them is $375. Total of $3975 for 15kWh. This battery is $3300 for 14.3kWh. In my mind this is the cheaper route, better looking, and more space saving.
Does the manufacturer or would you recommend a surge protector in case of a lightning strike or some other type of surge? I worry about lithium to some degree, mostly because I am admittedly a novice at best. Thanks for sharing. I wished I had half your knowledge. I do have a son that is a journeyman electrician thank goodness! Looks like a great system!

I don't have a sound meter, but the 6000xp inverter is quieter than the Canadian Solar EP cube. And I don't hear it running upstairs. Also, the fan speed can be adjusted in the settings
I am curious. Does that somewhat "interface" with your setup in your shop? Do both systems use the same solar panels? Also the A/C coming in, does that come from the grid or does it come from your inverter from your other system in your shop? Just trying to get an idea in my head as far as the schematics.
The backup source of power for this system is the EP cube system. So if it runs out of power, it can run off the other solar. It is like 5 time redundant. Solar or batteries on this system, or Solar, batteries and Grid on the other system.
Hey Evan, sounds like you are using three sources or do you? If so, how do you Switch one for the next? I'll have to go back and rewatch I guess. I'm contemplating on using all three and using two Generac Auto Transfer Switches to feed the house. Solar Primary with Utility backup on the 1st ATS feeding the top of the second ATS with the Gen ( Generac 22kw ) being the backup feeding the House. I think that will work. I can't run full Solar because where we live isn't a great source.
No, the screws included with the ground bar have triangular ends, and you use them to cut the threads, and they bite into the metal of the enclosure and make a good bond.
Hey I'm thinking about making a solar trailer that I could pull behind an EV and take off grid with me. I wanted to use this battery and inverter since they are popular, cost effective, and seem to work well. For the trailer i wanted to lay this battery and inverter on the ground tucked away in a cabinet space between the wheels. I figure that would be the best for weight distribution and the layout of the trailer I'd want. Can this battery be laid down like that do you know? I've looked for this info on forums and such and it sounds like it isnt recommended but when you opened it up it didnt seem like there was anything structurally that necessitates it. Maybe the fire suppressants position require that it is stood up?
The battery is supposed to be stood up. The manual says not to mount it flat on the ground. Not sure why. Probably because it is designed to hold the weight in that position. I don't think it will affect the fire arrestors. I have seen fire arresters mounted on the side(like this battery) and mounted over the the top of battery (like server rack batteries)
I hope this is not a silly question, but isn’t there a safety issue with having the battery in such close proximity to the plumbing stack cleanout? If that cleanout were to be used, liquid could easily be splashed on the battery. Is that a concern at all? Did you consider it when choosing your installation site?

I realize you find the system virtually fireproof. Yet it is in your house .. where you sleep. Do you have a fire suppression plan? You know, just in case what never should happen does happen?
I was expecting, or at least hoping, you would have given a better explanation. The system not being wired to the charge system at one moment, then being completely wired at the next is lacking a lot. Anyone viewing this chanel for the first time, not knowing about your other chanel, could not understand how that battery was charged by the sun, as you stated.

What you presented in your video was excellent, but I watched so I could understand how to connect the units to the PV system and the grid and the breaker panel. You skipped over this completely. All the videos on UA-cam about this battery show the same things you did.
Why oh why do they always gloss over the AC input/output installations on every one of the 10 videos I've watched on this so far or even do a cursory spec explanation on the max voltage on the two mppts. It says it tops out at 480v. Is that on each leg? Eg4 and everyone else is unclear
Your Video is Half Way true, You did not show the connection to outside power and the connection to the circuit braker to power the house or connection to solar panel., what you Show an Infant can do.

When I ordered this, they didn't have the indoor version yet. Now, they may only offer the indoor version precut for the 6000xp.

It is 1/4 inch fiber cement board (tile backer board) painted black. The inverter needs to be mounted to a non combustible surface.

I think the solar array should be 125% of the inverter output. So that would be around 7500 watts of solar.
I'm guessing the screws that bolt the conduit box to the battery bond them together for ground
The screws had regular flat washers. Nothing to bite through the paint into the metal to bond electrically.

So this battery will run central air overnight correct?
Can the cell temperature readings be changed to Fahrenheit vice Celsius?
I don't see a way to change it.

My Hybrid/Grid tied solar is the backup power for this system. If I use a generator, it is a manual through an interlock.

The battery has a 200 amp output. So 2/0 wire or larger welding or battery cable. 2/0 welding cablenis rated at 223 amps.
What happened to your other system? Is that just for the shop now?
My other system runs my larger breaker panel, and this system runs my smaller breaker panel. My other system also the backup power for this system.

I am not concerned about it. If you ever need to use the cleanout, I would cover up everything with a sheet of plastic.
And these batteries can be mounted outside by the way.. not this particular inverter though

You said a MAX output of 200 amps.... So technically, that could run the while home if needed???
200 amps of 48 volt DC. it would probably be able to support 12,000 watts of AC power or 50 Amps of 240 volt AC power.

The battery doesn't connect to solar panels or the grid. The inverter does. Watch the inverter video.

There is no AC input on the battery. This is a video on the battery, not the inverter.
