A major winter storm system is developing that could bring significant impacts across multiple regions. This isn't your typical winter weather event - we're tracking an intense system with a powerful 160-170kt jet stream that will drive widespread winter precipitation. The system will bring multiple precipitation types including snow, sleet, and freezing rain, with accumulations varying dramatically over short distances.
What makes this storm particularly concerning is that it's the first widespread winter event of the season for many areas, meaning even small amounts of accumulation could lead to significant travel disruptions. We're looking at probabilities of 4+ inches of snow in some areas reaching 50-70%, while other regions face serious icing threats with up to 0.1 inches of accumulation possible.
The setup includes:
Strong upper-level dynamics
Complex thermal profiles
Multiple precipitation types
Sharp gradient boundaries
Potential travel impacts
Stay tuned for continuous updates as this system evolves. This could be one of the more impactful winter weather events we've seen in recent memory.

I'm a veteran broadcast meteorologist in Nashville. I don't go into any storm episode without seeing what Ryan Hall has to say about it. Over the long haul you have earned my respect and admiration over and over again. You're a pro's pro. Keep up the great work. My best to you and your team. TIM
He's like you, just goes off the models, as a outside mechanic I watch the radar with my specific location. Like the Bad ice storm of 93 I changed a motor out side that Friday as the storm, stayed away.
With that being said, what’s your forecast for Nashville?
No pun intended? ... He's my favorite too 😊
@@congerthomas1812 Why are you bitter? 😂

I'm a truck driver. You are a great resource for travel affected by weather. Great job!
Me too
Drive safely. Thank you for all y'all do.
@@royd.9609 me too. This channel is a great resource. I’ll be coming back on 44 through Oklahoma on Thursday….could be a wild ride.
farmers and truck drivers keep america running and keep food on the table thank you for all you do ✝❤🙏
@@royd.9609 God bless our truckers! Thanks for all you do.
Evansville Indiana- we are expected to be without power until late Friday. Warming centers are open. Strangers are opening their homes to others. Restaurants are feeding people for free and helping with warming stations. Always look for the helpers. We will get through this TOGETHER!!!
Hoosier hospitality. Proud to live in Indiana!
Amen. 🙏🏼✝️♥️
Hope it comes back for you before Friday. That's a long time with power in this weather.
I love my home town people I'm from Princeton Indiana and Evansville is home to me as well. Great community!!!!
Hope it comes back sooner.
As an engineer, I really enjoy your transparency around uncertainty. I will also say your branding (y'all o meter, weather house etc) is so memorable and your presentation style is great. Easy decision to subscribe
thank you for your service engineer
As a machine operator and industrial maintenance technician I can say nothing and no one can mess up a well laid out plan worse than an engineer.
Hands down, without doubt this is the best weather channel out here!!! I'm a truck driver & I always watch your videos when snow & ice are coming. Your usually spot on!! Much respect 🫡
Same here! Watching Ryan keeps this trucks routes planned lol
I completely agree
Same here.
Much respect to you, out there getting it done.
He has kept my husband & his friend out of tornadoes path. If my husband is on the road & bad weather in his area, I always watch Ryan. Though, its Jesus watching over us & he gave us Ryan!
In 2023, you guided me and my extended family through an active group of tornadoes in north western Wisconsin. Bless you for helping so many people across the country. You are my only weather news source.
Much Respect & Appreciation!!!
Got wood stacked, water jugs full. Batteries charged, and plenty of blankets here in NE Texas! Thanks for the updates Ryan!
I’m in DFW and I am doing my final check tonight. Just got a restock on our wood.
Here between Paris and Sulfur Springs. Is cold but we are ready. Husband did go out to fill up his tank but we are good
I’m supposed to drive to Dallas this afternoon and come back tomorrow afternoon but I’m not sure if I want to be on the roads so close to the snowpocalypse.
You poor soul
I'm in a tent near Austin, was cold last night
I love how you don’t fear monger or over predict. You’re honest and tell us to hold on for more information. My elderly parents live in Louisville, and my brother and I live in southern Florida. Your channel has been great at keeping us up to date on these storms long distance!
Thank you for transcribing and captioning your videos. I recently lost the ability to hear and its so nice to have that .
So true. Hearing aids often just don't work well enough.
God bless you!🙏
Sorry that you're dealing with that.
I have a hearing loss also. Closed caption is my best friend!
I can't hear worth a crap. But I do like close captions and use it a lot
I rely on Ryan to know the extra steps I need to take to care for my livestock and how many heaters to set up in the barn. He gives enough warning so I am prepared ahead of time!!
Praying that everyone's got a safe place to stay warm and the power outages can be fixed quickly 🙏❤
Yes!! Amen!❤🙏
We all need to send a special prayer out to those folks in the Applanation Mountains that got hit by Hurricane Helene. I can't help but to wonder how they are doing? Also, blessings go out to the Pennsylvania Amish who kicked in and supplied Tiny Houses to some of the people who might otherwise be living in tents through this weather. Those of us who do have warm homes should be extremely grateful right now.

Eastern TN and Western NC folks still living in tents since Hurricane Helene! Prayers for help to get better shelter for these suffering folks.
Thanks Max and Ryan for the regular coverage. I sincerely hope everyone can stay safe and warm throughout this winter
This looks like a typical pattern we use to have in the mid and late 1970s... Many of us enjoyed the snow/ not so much the extreme relentless cold. Made us appreciate the warming in Spring. Take care all
@colty7764 ty man. I like snow in small doses (.5-3 inches) but the cold I don't like. I'm definitely watching this like a hawk cause southern snow makes me apprehensive lol
@@colty7764looking for Spring!!!!!
@@colty7764thanks for the reminder, I’d forgotten the mid to late 70s but remember now, it was brutal but seasonal.
Hopefully its not too bad.
Great update. Much needed for the people who are not used to seeing this kind of weather. This would be a 'don't be scared, be prepared' even for northern Wisconsin.
St. louis experienced THUNDERSNOW! I was so confused when I saw lightning and heard thunder while it was snowing, so weird but cool
@@amygarcia8892 Thundersnow is pretty neat! I grew up in the middle of the white mountains in NH and the first time I saw it it scared the hell out of me. I was working at a ski resort and was outside! I’ve seen it 4 other time too.

@@jacqueglover3747 Same here. I will check local for what this particular day is currently forecasting, but Ryan is the go-to for anything beyond today.
Ryan, I’m from Mississippi and have been following your channel for a while now. You and your team do a fantastic job and are very accurate with your forecasts. I appreciate all you and your team does to help people in weather affected areas too. I only have one issue. Please stop skipping over my state… you have a habit, like many others, of skipping over us but mentioning all the states around us. It makes me feel as if we don’t exist to the world around us. Thank you again for all you do.
You're my favorite weather channel on UA-cam because you don't get overly hyper about predicting. You take your time and wait for the facts before you give your prediction. Thank you for you diligence towards accuracy. Be well sir and hope your storm chasers stay safe.
Yes Ryan, Max ,And Weatherman plus are always spot on Thanks to you all
Thanks Ryan for the updates. We still have electric and we are ice covered in West Virginia. God is So Good. Mercy and Grace❤✝️

Thankful for all of the Ryan Hall Yall team doing so much to keep up informed and safe!
I love that you mentioned James Spann. He's a great guy and I have tons of respect for him. I know it's so difficult to forecast snow - and the Birmingham metro always seems to be right on the line so it could go either way. He's definitely got a tough job!
Found out my neighbor is a proud member of the Y'all Squad like me haha. Thanks for being the most informative site on the net for weather news!
In northeast Alabama we compare all snow storms to the blizzard of 93. Please use this as much as you want because every year we still talk about it.
Same! '93 remains memorable!
@@joshr3716 same here in Chattanooga! That was some storm in ‘93! Probably the biggest I’ll ever see!
Thank you, Ryan and Y'all Squad, for the snow coverage and weather coverage in general ❤Y'all are amazing 👏
Spann the Mann!!! James Span has kept Alabamaians alive my whole life (age 50+). Nobody does Alabama weather like him. His work during the blizzard of 93 and the 2011 tornado outbreak were nothing short of superhuman. ❤️❤️❤️ We are blessed to have him.
He is the most dedicated meteorologist I’ve ever seen.
All of the good winter storms are happening while I'm on vacation! I want to help out with the streams & chill for an afternoon instead of constantly looking at tornadoes, but I'm abroad in Pittsburgh so I can't help haha. Best of luck with the snow DFW through Arkansas!!
I hope we get some good snow #dalaska
I’m worried about TX. They don’t have a good history with their current power grid. They were already warning people of possible failure last week.
Are we supposed to know what dfw even means.?

Thanks Ryan, and the Ya'll squad! Appreciate your honesty and daily updates. You sound better, I hope your family is feeling better as well. 😊
Thanks for you and your teams hard work at keeping us informed and safe. ❤
I believe there's historical precedent from the blizzard of 1993 which brought 18inches of snow here in Knoxville TN. Oddly enough the snow forecast site says we're getting snow showers and only 1inch. That seems absurd based off of current models.
Looking at up to 6 inches of snow here in TN! Hope I get a chance to use my Y’all o meter! Stay safe everyone! Thanks Ryan! ❄️
New Yorker here. For Texans, Get a space heater, put some rock salt on your front steps and driveway, and watch for black ice. Wool hats are warmer than acrylic. Carry hot tea or get some pocket heaters from your local hardware store. Lift your windshield wipers before it snows if you don't want them to stick to your car when you need it. Don't wait until it stops snowing to shovel or your going to need muscles. Avoid yellow snow! 😂
Much love from Tennessee!
@@crossvillevapor4986 GREAT!! I am from Illinois, I will send you all of mine.
Enjoy!
Watching from the DFW area. We've gone from 8 inches of snow to rain & ice within the past 36 hours. We're preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Thank you for explaining why the forecast has been so wildly shifting since Sunday.
Same, Arlington specifically. This brings back so many childhood memories of putting all of your immediate hopes and dreams on the forecast calling for snow and school closing only to get up the next day, run to the window, and it's dry as a bone outside.
It's seemingly impossible to forecast snow and ice in north Texas and it doesn't seem to have gotten any easier in the last 30+ years since I was that kid at the window.😂
Where @? I live in fort worth and haven't seen a flake of snow
@@ezyfnef We're not supposed to yet. Precip isn't supposed to start until late Wednesday. (Arlington here)
@kriscynical also Arlington here. Wish we could keep the model that shows blue across DFW. I'm way happier with that than the pink on the screen today.
No precipitation whatsoever 45 miles east of Dallas. Wed.

I just need this storm to stay out of Nashville, PLEASE pray it does. My cousin and i are supposed to catch a plane on the 9th and him on the 10th to go to our grammy's funeral in California and we don't want to miss it. Thank yall and prayers for all the homeless and struggling cause it's really cold out there.
I hope you make it. Might want to try going early or trying to find alternative routes. Good luck & if you drive in it take plenty of blankets, water & food even if it ends up sitting in your car while you're gone. Just in case you get stuck on the way to the airport.
If you guys can't get there maybe someone could zoom or Livestream it for you.
@Nirrrina im flying but i just got a message from south west that said my flight is possibly compromised. I got my hopes up seeing Ryan's forecast but then i thought what if my plane is supposed to come from a state having winter weather cause why else would they say my flight is compromised? And just now my cousin got his message so livin on a prayer, and thank you for your best wishes for us.
Yeah, I’m just a little north of Memphis about an hour, at first they were saying, Friday 3 to 5 inches of snow in my town of Covington, then it went to 1 to 3 inches of snow, I have a feeling it’s probably gonna be anywhere from 3 to 7 inches, thank God, I went to my pain doctor today, and don’t have to go to none until the 23rd, cause my butt’s gonna stay right here at home, I got plenty of food for us and our fur babies, the only thing is my husband will have to get out to go to work if he’s able to get out, but he’s got his big work truck so that’s a lot of weight and it will help, and if I absolutely have to get out, I got a 4X4 so, I don’t plan on getting out nowhere though, everybody stay safe in winter storms and if you have to get out, please stay extra safe, God bless to each and every one of y’all and especially you, Ryan and team y’all do a great job, I trust y’all better than I do any local news Weather meteorologist here in the Memphis area

In sc! Our area is just now starting to look normal after the hurricane. Can't imagine what everyone in NC is dealing with!
This is the first time your channel has shown up in my algorithm. This was my first video. I checked the comments to see if you were reliable enough to see what you had to say. And then you had to go and feel sorry for James Spann. I'm from the Birmingham area. As of his afternoon update, the last time Mr. Spann had this much confidence in a snow forecast was 1993. I was 10 and that is still the only time in my life I've seen that much snow happen at once. We even got thunder snow! I'm so excited for my kids (and myself), but I'm also terrified. We don't have the infrastructure for this and I live on a mountain! 🙃
