Yup, I have this same intercooler in my RS among a few other mods and my oil temperature stays super cool most of the time (also takes longer to GET to temp) and I’m able to push for about 30% longer in the canyons. Super worthwhile upgrade, did it almost immediately.
The blocking plate is actually there because the RS intercooler was “too efficient” and in humid climates actually created some condensation in the system.
Seeing this hurts my soul, had an encounter with a suicidal deer on Thursday, whole front end of the ST is smashed plus head lights. Goes into shop, hope it’s not totaled. Might have to save this for future bumper removal when doing intercooler. Great video.
Just installed the Airtec Stage 2 intercooler on my 2016 Focus ST Wagon last monday I installed new boostpipes since i was there, 2.5 inch mostly metal, with a few silicone bends and connectors After a lot of sweat and finessing the new intercooler in i noticed some great improvements like a torque increase and a overall smoother idle Also when doing a 3000 rpm pull i get some turbo flutter noise which is always nice
I would like to say that the statement for how to create more power in an NA engine isn’t entirely true. With NA motors your typical bolt ons are all about getting more air in and out the engine. More air lets you add more fuel which means more combustion. Obviously timing is a key tribute when tuning but that isn’t the only way to make more power. Intake, throttle body, manifold, headers, and a catback all let you get more air in and out the system. And with muscle cars, camming them just lets you keep the valves open for longer duration to allow more air to get in the combustion chamber.
R tree jay is a true statement, However I can only cool a certain amount amount of air in a non turbo, so opening up the air flow in a non turbo means the radiator has to work harder n heatsoak expands 0:30 air cause the flow is too fast. It can only breathe better when all restrictions are removed. I’m my humble opinion, The RS does not have a functional hoodscoop but has a lot of air hitting the front so it makes sense to switch to an intercooler in to w front. So yea the statement technically is not 100 percent true, I believe he was trying to make a point in the difference an fmic makes on a forced induction car.
I Absolutely love this channel best RS CHANNEL I HAVE FIUND FOR MODDING AND EXPLANations. QUESTION? Would changing the inter cooler piping and removing the restricted plate with a tune would help keep the temp down to minimize heat soak?
Hey Cameron and/or anyone else with lots of car knowledge. Would this still be a good upgrade to do in very cold climates? During the winter it gets sometimes to -35 degrees celsius but during the summer it gets to +35 degrees celius.
I just wanted to say, I'm so happy with how much you upload. You make everything so fun and interesting and I love the quality content! Don't ever stop! I get just as excited (if not more) seeing you upload as I do for rob dahm or B is for build. 🥰
impossible to dip below ambient with a simple air to air cooler, the only way it can get below ambient is adding an interchiller that runs off the car A/C or add a water sprayer on the cooler face and or nitrous or c02.
Quick question. I bought the same intercooler for my focus rs as well. I’ve read up on some forms about needing a tune after install. There was mixed opinions and I would love to hear yours. I believe you won’t need a tune unless you want the performance side of things from the upgrade and the factory ECM will compensate for the change in MAF, but since the RS is MAP based it shouldn’t be a problem? idk who to believe at this point. I would love to hear your input. Is this correct?
I'm curious to see how much this affects your coolant temps, as with my FMIC on a Speed3 it's a drastic difference. Almost wish I could stay TMIC in the summer and FMIC in the winter!
Are you on the stock K04?? I wanna get a FMIC on my 09 speed3 since the gen 1’s don’t have a hood scoop and tend to get heat soaked, currents mods are -forge BOV -cold air intake -turbo inlet - Cobb AP - tuned on 91
The rs doesn’t need a bigger intercooler. They block off 30% of the air entry from the stock equipment. They did this because the stock intercooler overcools the air in many conditions. I can’t see why this is a necessary upgrade and not a sales pitch.
Hey cam I got a question I recently got a mustang but didn’t get the active exhaust system so if I go buy a after market one with active exhaust will I get the exhaust modes in the car when I install it?
Very likely, because the charge air temps didn't appear to go below ambient at all. I ran the Mountune calibration with a Mishimoto FMIC on my ST and my charge air temps were always slightly above ambient. It wasn't until I got a tune from Stratified that my charge air temps went below ambient. Remember, the Mountune calibration doesn't take into account what parts you've installed like a custom tune would.
This thing is such an awful design. It’s like they didn’t even do a test fit. Getting the slots over the tabs AND the lower brackets on top of the lower mounts is virtually impossible without prying (which is scary on plastic parts).
You don’t want it to rattle around. It’s a good thing it fits so tight, trust me, they designed it this way. On the other side of what you are feeling is something you don’t realize you don’t want and more problems. You got this, just be careful and it will go in place 💪🏻

That gets me giddy for you lol.. serious gainz
That's a Good Upgrade. Love your videos. Makes it easy and just gives us that fuel motivatin to do it ourselve.
Love my mountune intercooler on my ST❤❤❤
Love your videos man very helpful and thanks to u I got an st very fun to drive

Can you do a video on what upgrades to do and in what order is best for the RS? That would be sweet
You should get a carma speed logo stencil and paint it on the intercooler gotta leave your mark on it
I really want a focus RS 👌
I Absolutely love this channel best RS CHANNEL I HAVE FIUND FOR MODDING AND EXPLANations.
QUESTION? Would changing the inter cooler piping and removing the restricted plate with a tune would help keep the temp down to minimize heat soak?
Time to get the nitrous blue seat belts to match everything next? :D
Hey Cameron and/or anyone else with lots of car knowledge. Would this still be a good upgrade to do in very cold climates? During the winter it gets sometimes to -35 degrees celsius but during the summer it gets to +35 degrees celius.
I'm curious -- what do people usually do with the old intercooler? Save, sell, or scrap?

Do you have to have a tune for this? Is a tune required for the HP gain? What mods require a tune?

incorrect
I’d love to see the focus w/o the black roof!
Soon!

Don’t get rid of the pops and bangs bro
Hi, do I need a tune, or i should buy and Cobb Accessport?
I broke my clips that hold the radiator support 😅😭😭😭
Those clips are booty cheeks. For me it was the screws on the intercooler mount, one of em just stripped ._.
Apparently I missed some videos. Wth happened to the coupe L build?

Can any mods for the ford st/rs fit into the ford se 2012?
Did you check the charge air temps before installing the intercooler? it would be nice to see a comparison.
Intake temps hit about 190 in a focus ST and probably similar or worse in an RS. Post intercooler drops to 90
i have a focus st 2016 stock intercooler cruising at 80 i’m riding at 140° in florida at like 90° weather
@@theofficialkevinwith blocking plate off?
@@13965082 blocking plate?
Hell yea lets go
Cam, would you recommend the big CPE intercooler or tbe mountune one
Hey cam I got a question I recently got a mustang but didn’t get the active exhaust system so if I go buy a after market one with active exhaust will I get the exhaust modes in the car when I install it?
I have a Focus ST mk3 from 2018. and does this intercooler fit my car?
The one Cameron installed is for the RS, but Mountune does make a front mount intercooler for the ST.
90% sure every intercooler is interchangeabke between STs and RSs. The only difference between the two is that the rs has a 2.3 and AWD system
Is the RS still on the mountune calibration?
Very likely, because the charge air temps didn't appear to go below ambient at all. I ran the Mountune calibration with a Mishimoto FMIC on my ST and my charge air temps were always slightly above ambient. It wasn't until I got a tune from Stratified that my charge air temps went below ambient. Why mountune instead of ets?
Can I get that stencil off you😂. My car came with the mountune intercooler but I need the stencil
