Both maps were created by different community members as part of the "Artpass Contest", in which valve provided the community with an un-artpassed map that they had in development and asked them to detail it. Mountain Lab and Mann Manor were the two winners.

I was bummed when October rolled around and my laptop was still being fixed and it wasn’t looking like I’d be able to play screamfortress. Had school that Halloween, then trick or treated then came back to the miracle of my laptop being back that night! I played throughout the night eating some Halloween candy. I still remember working on unofficial truces with the other team to kill Merasmus with loads of Huntsmen Snipers. Then I remember playing on gift servers where people were peaceful and let you get the gift. Still to this day that 2012 scream fortress was my favorite
Scream Fortress is my absolute favorite time and part of TF2. The vibe, the music, the maps, boss battles, spells, it's all so much fun and always manages to give me a breath of fresh air in the game when Halloween time rolls around. It's a shame that they don't really take any care to it anymore, and that it's now just an automatic update where you can play all the old maps and bosses, except they include some new halloween hats and maybe a map or two from the community.
I do miss valve made Halloween updates, bringing something truly new to the game. The community cosmetics are very nice, but the maps are a big mess since there is too much going on. Each map needs like all the bosses to be on the map on some point and spells out the butt, especially on the payload maps. I think next year we should get maps that have no bosses or spells. Or maybe even a mannpower event map.

Scream fortress is nostalgic for me, it was when I first started playing team Fortress 2 and I was there for the first one and yes I got the original Gibus. Event harvest makes it feel like Halloween 2009 for me because that’s all I played! I miss it back then.
Scream Fortress probably is my favorite thing in TF2. MvM is nice thanks to its community made content (such as potato .tf), but not polished enough to be a lasting gameplay feature. Regular TF2 gets old real quick. Scream Fortress is so wacky compared to other multiplayer games out there that it's a lot like a completely new game. Many games will try to emulate the crazy modifiers of TF2's Scream Fortress maps and map reskins, but overall, I think TF2 really, really, *really* got it right, to the point where I'm not even mad if the "new" (read: four maps and a bunch of cosmetics) content added is actually very poor. Hopefuly TF2 keeps having those and perhaps it will even get a community update that isn't a trainwreck. That would be nice.
You forgot to mention how gifts would randomly appear in a game, and only the first player picking it up would collect it, thus resulting in a hunt for the gift and also hours of rage cause you didn't get it. Then they changed it so that everyone could get it at the same time, and now we got that forsaken gargoil that just gives a bunch of souls
And also you used to be able to sell your spells on the steam market, and if I remember correctly some of them were actually pretty rare and expensive!
Honestly I really hate how we cant trade our Halloween drops anymore. On one hand, I understand why, since we can potentially get a lot more than we used to be able to, but at the same time it's just kinda boring, you can't trade with you friends to complete a set, and a lot of the cool stuff is just gone, like the pile of curses, aforementioned spells, etc.
Yeah it became very self centered instead of how community driven it used to be, especially because of the new missions (which I think are a great addition however) and the fact that nothing can be traded anymore
The statement about the domination achievement to get the Gibus is incorrect. The domination achievement was always in play from day one in 2009. However in 2012 they changed it so that players would get the newly made GHOSTLY Gibus rather than receive the base Ghastly Gibus and need to wait a year for it to upgrade to a Ghastlier Gibus, and eventually have the Ghostly Gibus style; the player just had them all available. This is how I earned the hat in 2009 when it was first out as I had missed the link on the page.
Such a strange decision for Valve to expire those spells and then never bring them back! I can only assume they felt the effects were too spammy on screen? But then again, that has never stopped them before so who knows really!
I miss when no truce existed, it was way more exciting and special to get 24 people to all work together with no hand holding to take down Merasmus, Ghost Fort was by FAR my favorite Event map, but now it is sadly reduced to being a slog of waiting for people to kill Merasmus with a truce that completely ruins the point.

you can reclaim it by going on steam support and tell that you deleted the item by accident. There's a video on youtube that helps you with it, idk how it was called, i got mine back that way
