    I loved that you did both versions. I think this one is my favorite because it’s so mesmerizing and cohesive. I really do adore the run with the goat trill in the other one but there’s just something so cinematically epic about this one. Thank you so very much for your analysis and again thank you for reviewing both versions! Always a pleasure to get your insight.

    Wow. I hadn’t heard this version before-it seems like he has much easier access to those low notes than in the first one I saw. And he’s actually hit a D8 (whistle) in Unforgettable Day. Anyway, great analysis/reaction! Thanks for showing this!

    The vibrato on "see" and straight tone on "ground" can also be a reflection of what those represent. What you see is something that is constantly changing while in comparison, the ground is steadfast and firm. Also, there's a sense of coming out of the sea or over a peak to new ground, and both of those bring to mind undulations like the waveform of vibrato.

  • @gsbealer

    I prefer the other, previous version. He doesn’t do down as low in this version. It really was shocking to hear him go that low. He goes off the bottom of the keyboard here, and in his Unforgettable Day, he attains the D8 (I’m told) whistle note. Off the keyboard in both directions. Remarkable! Astounding!!!

    Thank you for doing both versions. And I really appreciate that you commented that the whole point is that it is Dimash's voice, Dimash's performance with Igor. I am really tired of people who focus only on if Dimash is live or not, instead of the fact that he is phenomenal and all choices are his and he is not using tools to alter his voice (like auto tune etc.). Dimash makes his own choices and does not let others make choices for him. There are times, I believe mostly in Russia, where there are production rules (usually for TV) where artists must use playback so that there is no surprises. I agree with you about the Kobyz. It is an incredible instrument and is haunting. The sound is similar to other instruments, but it truly stands alone. This composition by Igor for Dimash is epic. Dimash is epic! :D I love hearing your observations and your explanations.

      @@SirHairlessyes I second their comments. But I also want to say he is NOT lip syncing in this performance (which was the premiere of the new song btw). I do think it was produced in post for airing, which I wish they didn’t.

  • @szolanek
    @szolanek 8 місяців тому

    I am glad you did that. It is not the question which one is better. The question is, which order to listen to. Obviously this, the original is first, and after it is fun to see him playing around with it.
    For me sad. For he was loosing Igor. He already fought him to get here the kobyz and the oriental runs. There, as you will learn, was exercising his masterpiece he wrote for 3 years. The One Soy. Igor left, sadly.

    I'm personally tired of the lip syncing argument. The problem is that it only takes one person to throw doubt and it gets taken up by a whole crowd of people who find it difficult to believe anyone can sing like this.
    I've now noticed in the concerts since 2022 that he's changing songs in subtle ways far more than he used to possibly because he himself is growing tired of the lip sync accusations. There's even times that I've thought he was but then seen backstage or fancam footage that revealed he was indeed singing live.
    Obviously there's times when according to circumstances or requirements he has to do it, but I don't think it's anywhere near as much as people accuse him of.

    • @SirHairless
      @SirHairless  8 місяців тому +16

      Agree. In general my views on lip syncing are: so what if an artist is lip syncing? There could be many reasons why they're doing it, one of which might be guaranteeing a musically better performance for the fans (e.g. if the artist is ill at the time)
      I can see issues with it if the artist says "that performance was live" but it wasn't, but other than that, I really see no issue with it

    • @debbiemorgan859
      @debbiemorgan859 8 місяців тому +19

      @@SirHairless I liked the fact that you pointed out that apart from some stylistic choices and the end note being fractionally shorter in the Chinese performance the two were almost identical.
      As we know for certain that the Chinese performance was 💯 live at a time when he was suffering severe breathing problems ending with him being hospitalised, I don't understand why people don't think he could have done the previous performance live when he was at peak fitness.
      I know someone spread a rumour that all Russian televised performances had to be lip synced due to regulations but I don't believe this to be true as we know that Passione (which he also performed at New Wave) was 💯 live due to backstage footage and Dimash's own explanation of why the choir had to use playback but he and Igor were both live.
      Btw you really should take a look at Passione, for some reason it doesn't get the attention it deserves but it's a truly incredible performance inspired by Dante's Inferno.

    • @iFoss
      @iFoss 8 місяців тому

      There are several performances where he lip syncs. That's not a dig at him or saying that he can't sing it live, just that some venues force it on the artists. This is more common in Russia in fancier venues and/or for recording purposes.

    On the last part, I think in the previous version he doesn't align with the "claps" because he makes a bit more space to breathe before that last 20s sustained (because he was sick). You can see he also breathes in the staccato moment just before, which he doesn't in the new one. So impressive to be able to sing like that being sick, and so clever with his resources for it, too.
    Thanks for your reviews, very informative, great knowledge. Truly beautiful calm energy that you transmit, and very expressive as well. Thank you.

    I see several recommendations for Ikanaide, Dimash's first song in Japanese performed and recorded in a studio for an online concert, Tokyo Jazz Festival, during the quarantine in Japan in Nov 2021. Gorgeous song that the composer, Koji Tamaki and songwriter, Goro Matsuri both stated was sung in perfect Japanese and the most beautiful Japanese song they had heard from a foreign singer. Dimash had previously sung a very beautiful but different version with totally different lyrics written in Mandarin for a tv docudrama but the Japanese version is the original and is a glowing masterpiece.

      @@bookworm8385 OK, a brief history of the Mandarin version of Ikanaide. The original song was released and sung by Koji Tamaki the composer of the song. The first Chinese version of the song was translated into Cantonese. A little later the producers of a joint Chinese/Japanese tv series got permission to commission new lyrics in Mandarin to create the theme song for the docudrama about a Chinese actress of Japanese heritage who hid her Japanese heritage but was found out and was deported after WWII. The theme song was called Late Autumn (Autumn Strong). Dimash sang Autumn Strong in the Singer competition in 2017 and later the same year was awarded Best Foreign Singer Award in Hong Kong for his beautiful version of this song. Ikanaide was never about the Chinese actress. And Dimash sang Ikanaide the original song to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Koji Tamaki's music career. There was a sweet interview on Japanese tv where Dimash virtually met Koji Tamaki. Koji was so happy to meet Dimash even via a live screen because he had heard Dimash sing Autumn Strong and loved it. It was so sweet. Dimash told Koji he was planning to sing a Japanese song for the Tokyo Jazz Festival.

      actually nowhere in this performance sounds lipsynced at all, i dont know why it's popular to complain about this one. But there are a few times that were definitely lipsynced (the russian concert), and you have to also consider in most cases, when the host for whatever reason sets it up without live sound, the performer has little choice but to follow along. lipsync'ing is actually harder, and it's not fun to do. They're forced to lipsync.

      Это не мнение, а факт. В том и дело, что у него в 5 выступлениях все один в один, даже в эквалайзере проверяли, и изредка другие версии, где он якобы болеет. И никто ему не завидует и не спорит, что он умеет петь в живую и огого как. Просто надо принять тот факт, что после союза с Крутым 90% выступлений, в том числе концерты(большая часть песен) под фанеру. А мимика у него всегда попадает, именно потому, что умеет петь, даже скорее всего поет, просто в колнки другая дорожка идет.

      Абсолютно с Вами согласна. Димаш уважает своих слушателей, я только один раз столкнулась со студийной записью - на телевизионной трансляции московского концерта. И там Димаш указал вначале "Знай", что это студийная запись. Позже пришло объяснение, что снимавшие концерт, не смогли записать нормально этот номер, пришлось переписывать в студии. Я тогда впервые столкнулась с тем, что артист сделал такую сноску. В этом весь наш несравненный Димаш, с уважением, из Казахстана, а по поводу фонограмм, он бы из студии вообще не выходил, если бы на каждое выступление писал фонограмму, у него все выступления отличаются какими-то нюансами, импровизациями, я уже со счета сбилась сколько версий "СОС" прослушала.

One of the other reactioners' I watch is Arab Man Reacts and he commented the same thing as you, about someone saying Dimash lip syncs almost everything. He said some people are so jealous that they will hate others no matter what. He said he used to try to tell them that there's absolutely no way Dimash is lip syncing and if you watched that concert, you could totally tell he wasn't (they were talking about the Almaty concert in particular) and the hater kept on hating so he then said to ignore the haters and they'll eventually go away. Just thought I'd add that 😃💜

    The instrument is a Kobyz, a two stringed instrument thought to be the oldest stringed instrument, upon which all others are based on. The technique you wondered about is an ethnic, middle Eastern type of singing.

    You’re now officially a Dear. (Dimash has named his fans “Dears” because they are dear to him. That should already tell you how humble he is.
    You might’ve heard some of these following things already before but just in case you haven’t:
    • He started singing at age 5 and has trained every day since for a minimum of 4h per day.
    • He has at least 3 Master’s Degrees in music and defending his Master's thesis with a perfect score, and receiving a recommendation for admission to doctoral studies in music.
    • He plays at least 7 instruments
    • He has won 4 major singing competitions
    • He won the three-day vocal competition with a full jury score of 180 out of 180 points; the first time in the history of the contest.
    • He gave his first solo concert in the USA on 10 December 2019. The show was titled Arnau Envoy and took place at the Barclays Center in New York. The venue was sold out with 19,000 spectators from 63 countries.
    • In July 2022 Dimash announced his new concert tour Stranger which was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on September 23, 2022 at the Central Stadium in the city. The concert lasted 4.5h and it was filmed for his channel and can be found on his UA-cam page in 3 parts. It was sold out. Audience members reported to be nearly 35,000 in attendance from 68 countries.
    • He was born May 24th 1994, which makes him 29 years.
    • He has performed songs in 13 different languages.
    • His range expands 6 octaves and 8 semitones. He sings from C2 to C6 to F#6 and, D8.
    • He has made numerous donations and acts of humanitarianism, far too many to list below.
    • He performed The Story of One Sky, the first time at the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. One of the listeners was Pope Francis, who later met with him and presented him with a commemorative medal.
    Also.. I wanted to add that even though I believe there are many other songs that are important for you to hear, to experience all aspects of his talent but one of the most important ones is: The Story of One Sky
    There are two videos or actually performances you should see. 1st one is most definitely The Story of One Sky Official Music Video, one of the most expensive music videos ever made if not the most expensive and after that, the 2nd video Watch his live performance of that song of/performance at his 4,5h long concert in Almaty. His performance of The Story of One Sky is in his Part 3 of the Almaty concert (found on his UA-cam page!) at 25:35.
    BEFORE you do the reaction to his music video there’s tons of information you should have or if you decide blind react to it, then read the following information AFTER watching it, BUT BEFORE giving your thoughts on it to have all the information!
    Here is a few things to help understand all the aspects of the story of The Story of One Sky. It is subtitled "Requiem” but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself. The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. In the MV, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, the boy, gives his friend the pendant, the camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl. Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through, as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers. Contemporary music is also present: With the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way. The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment, we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. The Piper's call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let's remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support the war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against? The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht to end the war in April 1945. Waldenburg was completely destroyed as you can see from the picture. Many of the dead in those bombed out buildings were women and children. The good guys defeated evil but at what price? iowaculture.gov/history/education/educator-resources/primary-source-sets/world-war-ii/american-troops-move-through The imagery of the denouement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of his wife giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and life are both sacraments and are interwoven. Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that buffet the pilgrims. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the "sacred womb" of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy, and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war and suffering by choosing life. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby. The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused and judgment is removed.” Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage, and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Carl Jung wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” This is what Dimash has done with this work; he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. We don’t have to wait. We can start right now. As the hymn tells us: "Let there peace in the world, and let it begin with me." Baraka Bashad.

    Definitely like the fact you did both versions. He adds the Kobyz on a lot of songs he sings, mostly in Kazakh language songs. The man who is playing the instrument is Olzhas Qurmanbek. He travels with Dimash on tour, as Olzhas is one of the best players in the world. Dimash loves showcasing Kazakh instruments, Dimash himself plays the dombra, another 2 stringed instrument. Im not one to choose one version over the other. I just like it when new versions are released.

    Dimash is the best singer in the WORLD and there are no doubts about that, his voice is a prodigy of nature and a genetic marvel since his parents are two glories of singing from Kazakhstan since he was 5 years old, he sings publicly and has more than twenty years of lyrical training and graduated from the university of music, he is a singer, composer, arranger and multi instrumentalist, he plays more than seven musical instruments and sings in more than twelve(12) languages, he is also a great performer and a great artist who lives and feels music He is not an imitator of voices , Dimash has his own style and is one of the forerunners of the "POPera" he also has a very pleasant, HUMBLE and simple personality, easy access, which makes it very easy to follow, he always travels with His family and friends is a very educated person and an example to follow, he has become known for his musical talent not for getting into trouble or scandals, It has a very wide vocal range of approximately 7 octaves ,he is a singer with a wide vocal range very versatile is Baritone, TENOR , Soprano, counter TENOR, mezasoprano, everything at the same time is how to have 5 singers in one, it has a male and female voice, also many resources such as vibrato, "melismas", falsetto, Staccato,whistle tone, reaching a( D8 )live "Outside of Piano"at the concert of Gakku in an unforgettable day, at his young age he continues to improve and grow musically to perfection, he has a good physical presence he measures 191 cm or 6 "3", he is very famous and recognized in Asia and now he is becoming known In Europe and America, ALL their songs are spectacular, it always goes from low to high, soft to spectacular at the end, in my almost half a century of life I never heard so much quality and it is the hope of continuity of the classical genre because all the old tenors have already Almost all of them died and Dimash can sing like them but none of them can sing like Dimash, being a Man he sings better than any Tenor and his female voice is superior to that of any average Soprano, greetings and a hug from USA 🇺🇸 "Dears" Forever ❤️ Sorry for copying and pasting my informative comment in ALL the Video reactions to Dimash what I see but I do it with the intention of sharing information about him and what I think that in the music industry there are many artists who have been successful and have no talent and are bad people and they do not set a good example for the youth, Dimash and his music deserve to triumph in America, Europe and the whole WORLD, do you want to have already read my comment please come by without problem there is always someone who for the first time knows this information and I won't get tired of sharing it with all my friends"Dear" around the world, thanks for reading and for supporting Dimash 🙏🏻S.O.S. Whenever Dimash performs any song more than once, or even hundreds of times (ie SOS) he always sings it differently, sometimes totally differently ( ie Know, Durdaraz ) he likes to make our experience interesting and fresh. Also its more fun for him to change it up. Dimash is a very exciting vocalist, musician and performer, especially at his own concerts. His latest world tour which is still underway, Hungary oncert is 4th May tickets still available, but hurry if you want one ❤ Duet with Placido Domingo coming in the next few weeks too plus his new MVs for his new songs shouldnt be too much longer. Great comments again. My favorite version is this one, mainly because of the Kobyz being played sometimes in duet, other times as an answer to Dimash’s phrasing. Played beautifully, I feel it enhances the unsettling ambiance. I don’t need Dimash to display all his vocal gymnastic extremes within one song to appreciate what an amazing singer he is. On Shine, Dimash made choices not only for his voice while sick, but also shortened for time within the tv program & didn’t have the live music nor live Qobyz. So instead he chose a special and new set of melismas and runs, changed the vocal style he used for many of the notes. His artistry & technical skills are truly unmatched.

    It's all a bit reminiscent of Dimash's premiere performance of Daybreak on The Singer (please use Gloria Wu's version with backstory)while sick, followed by Daybreak at Dimash's Basteau concert several months later, one of his greatest live performances ever....please do the two of them together! ❤

    Both versions of the song are undoubtedly super impressive and good. I, personally, prefer this one, because the extreme goat trill (if that is the name for it) took me a bit out of the song, while the choices made in this one didn't disturb the flow of the song to my ears. Personal preference, I like it when the song itself feels of equal weight to the vocal acrobatics he is capable of and the other version didn't feel as balanced as this one to me.

    • @SirHairless
      @SirHairless  8 місяців тому +1

      Very valid reasoning! The 'story' of a song (or the flow, as you describe it) is one of the most important things for many people when they hear music for the first time 🎶
