The movie has a point though. As long as the robots can rationalize that they are saving the humans they can ignore the second and third laws.
@ Which is actually something Asimov himself wrote about quite a bit. In one story an exceptionally intelligent robot decides that humans are terrible at running their own affairs, but it is also smart enough to realize that they aren't going to immediately accept robot rule. So the robot ends up disguising himself as a human, faking his past, and going into politics. But the robot's flaw is that it is almost TOO perfect: it knows exactly what to say, has a perfect memory for everything anyone he's met has ever said to him, and knows every law and procedures by heart. People begin to suspect, and notice that the robot never eats meals with anyone else. When cornered by a journalist, the robot explains that it has a 'special diet' and demonstrates it CAN eat by doing so. After the journalist leaves, though, it is revealed that this eventuality is just one more thing that the genius robot planned for. And after winning election after election, it slowly paves the way for a completely peaceful takeover of human affairs as well as education programs to change human prejudice so that eventually the humans accept that robots can do it better.
But there are also dozens of variations on these themes. Asimov's laws were, to him, just elements to prove that you can't really write perfect laws.
Vicky invents the zeroth law that Asimov has described in his galactic empire, they just don't state it. Humanity's safety is above all in that one and the other three can't contradict it, justifying enslaving and killing people.

Did Calvin actually switch out Sonny for another robot in the execution scene? I just assumed that since Sonny had two brains he could spare one and that it was indeed him in the execution chair.

She definitely switched out the robots.
It's about the only part of this movie that I actively dislike because of the lack of subtlety. She's clearly having doubts about killing Sonny, then stares at a row of unused robot bodies... and the camera lingers on the unused robots just in case it wasn't obvious enough. For me it detracted from what otherwise would have been an intensely emotional moment watching Sonny (as far as we're supposed to know) being euthanised.
