Refreshing to hear someone who is coming from a socialist perspective, recognising the dangers in agressive attitudes that other socialists sometimes maintain, which would obviously just result in the reproduction of Stalinism. I would add to the points you made that people who might otherwise be sympathetic to, and gravitate towards a more socialist politics, see that, and think "that sounds a lot like what the anti socialist propaganda I've heard all my life was warning me about; maybe there's something to it..."
Ok just got the the end where 1Dime mentions Michael Downs/Theory Underground and hopes you guys meet. PillPod and Theory Underground are my top two go-to YT channels: I cannot second this enough!
This is super good. Thanks for introducing me to 1Dime On the question of how Contained Opposition is useful before "V For Vendetta Part II" - I wonder if it has some application within the existing Left organizing institutions such as DSA. As a precautionary against any impulses to shut out/excommunicate dissident voices from the org (which I think isn't a huge problem at the moment - the Big Tent seems robust and widely pointed to as a source of strength and endurance - but could be in the future). 1Dime says something along the lines of "well I just get off to this strategy stuff, ultimately". I think he may be selling himself short (and Pills has to himself too). Talk to Thoery Underground people - they are very conscious about the political applications/ramifications of theoretical insights and I wonder if they could exorcise some of the "doomerism" out of you two lol
There's a lot of great points 1Dimee brings up, and things I've given a lot of thought about. I like a lot of Anarchist thought, and believe strongly in worker democracy, from just personal experience of getting basic functions to work. However the idea of like everything is decided by direct democracy seems utterly impractical, also from experiences in work and organizing. There's times you need representatives and administrators to get simple shit decided, and also giving space for people to sit back and think about the concequences that a large group often doesn't have the time and/or calm to consider. I often think a lot of the issues with administrators and bureaucracy heads comes from these positions being unaccountable. And yeah, violently repressing every opposition is completely dumb and leads to Stalinism. So excellent discussion.
completely agreed. we need a WORKER'S democracy, not whatever "the west" has right now, but having every single thing decided by direct democracy is too impractical and time consuming. so, like you said, what we really need is more accountability from power. and no profit motive.
I still think anarchism accounts for this. When there's a fire there's no time to debate what to do, you need a fire Marshall. The difference is that the capacities of this representative are decided beforehand, however at any time (except during a fire) that position could be revoked by the community. However, I find myself thinking about a line from debord. "(#92) The strength and weakness of the real anarchist struggle resides in is viewing the goal of the proletarian revolution as immediately present... But it leaves the historical terrain by assuming that the adequate forms für this passage to practice have already been found and will never change." I'm other words that anarchism is strong in it's critique of the oppressive elements in government, but it is weak because it hasn't been able to demonstrate a viable groundwork to transition towards anarchism and it never will. I find myself agreeing to a degree, I've always felt unsatisfied in anarchist groups I've associated with in an unwillingness to engage in theory and Marxist thought, it sometimes feels like a demonstration of the objet petit a. Less of an actual discussion of how we might construct and then function in an anarchist society and more of a lens to critique all political theory to get joy out of fantasizing about a lack of any oppression. Perhaps I am too pessimistic though.
@@N0THANKY0U I'm not very informed on beer's model, but it has been mentioned to me two or three times and i did like what i heard. i really should have a closer look at it.
On the topic of censoring the right, Cuba sort of lets the right exist to a limited extent through the presence of the Catholic Church. I think that's the way to do it if anything
What makes you think you have the right to censor anybody? If your ideas can't stand up to scrutiny - ALL scrutiny - then they're lousy ideas. How dare you think you're omnipotent.
Thanks 4 having me! In addition to the videos, I also have a podcast (on apple, spotify, etc) called 1Dime Radio for those interested
I just discovered your channel . Realy nice work man ! keep it going ^^

I think beer's viable systems model is a good mix of the benefits of direct democracy with the benefits of management

Recently I met the channel of 1Dime thanks to Pills, I love his work. And now a podcast with him, it's amazing.
MMT was a big topic in policy debate this year lol, that’s how I found 1dime’s channel

Your hair looks beautiful Pills 😂
The most efficient way to control your herd is to allow them lots of room to graze while you sit back and watch them.
Great vid man 🔥🔥🔥
They taught MMT in my undergrad econ courses
That's pretty cool honestly, did it have dedicated courses or just pop up in survey classes?
Which school?
no walk to/from school or work is boring with this pod
