Throughout this video we said Riley floated upstream, when he really floated downstream. Very sorry for the mistake and confusion.

Yes it's downstream but the Cumberland River eventually flows up (to the northwest) from Nashville ... into the Ohio River.

Ashley Banfield has egg on her face for blaming the Homeless for this tragic accident. Ashley promoted the false rumor that a homeless person named Ross was wearing Riley's shirt. Poor Ross the Homeless guy did not steal Riley's shirt. Riley was found with his shirt on. Ashley Banfield criticized the police and the homeless. She owes Nashville Police and Ross an apology. I went to college in Nashville & was in a similar situation to Riley's many years ago. I was out on the town enjoying Nashville's fun night life & had too much to drink. The school friends I was with would NEVER allow me to walk the city streets late at night by myself while impaired by alcohol. We watched each other's backs. Where were Riley's college buddies when Riley needed them? I have ZERO respect for Riley's fraternity brothers who failed to protect him.

I'm sure they were ALL drunk. Drunk people aren't thinking about the things that can happen to their companions. These were frat boys that had bar hopped three places. Unfortunately, when people are drunk they don't think straight. Kids even when not drunk also think they are immortal and invulnerable. NOW FOR THE BOYS TOO
So I need to breakdown the "Friend Code" for some of you, because clearly there's too many girls ( and BOYS ) going missing or getting killed.
This is how we "Old Schoolers" roll.
•Code 1: " We leave together... We stay together....We come back together. NO you're not leaving with some RANDOM dude & NO I'm not leaving you at the party by yourself!
    • Code 2 " Both of us can't be sh*t face drunk (neither of you should) , at least one person needs to be alert & aware of our surroundings!
•Code 3 " If you got to go to the bathroom or outside ." WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE DAMN BATHROOM AND OUTSIDE!!" Period!
•Code 4 " We don't accept drinks from strangers unless we're at the bar and watch the bartender pour".
    • Code 5 " if I feel like you're too drunk to function , we're leaving the party early". (We'll fuss about you messing up the night later)
    • Code 6 " if you just so happen to go missing. I will give you a maximum 15-30 mins to show up before I Shut the place down and we ALL are going to be looking for your ass!!! FOR REAL!!! Everybody else can call the police cause I ain't going home without you!
    • Code 7 "If you're fighting it better be one on one, otherwise we all fighting" (Hopefully this ain't jumpin off cause we too classy and ladies)
    • Code 8 and the golden rule, "The drop off person check in or everyone who drove checks in when getting home" If we don't hear from you, we coming to ya house
Because these generations got the Friend Code messed up! ! This is how we were raised... #friendsdontleave . THIS NEEDS TO BE RETAUGHT.

yeah, that could be. But there were enough businesses (restauraunts and bars) that he passed by, I would think that he would have used one of their bathrooms. If you look at the video, he is walking on the dirt path and not the sidewalk. When the cop turns around, you don't see it because by that time, he continued down the dirt path which goes downhill to the river. I think he thought he was heading towards he hotel.

@@johnpichla9557 I think this theory is without merit, but what you said wouldn't discount it. If it was true he just had one drink and was drugged then he would be acting as if he was heavily intoxicated. I was about to say we watched him fall and his hit head, but then came to the same conclusion, this would be true if he was drugged as well. I think most likely is just that they won't know how drunk he was until the autopsy, and then it will show that he was at least drunk enough to slip and hit his noggin, and then who knows ... maybe head trauma.

I agree with what someone said in a comment on another video- that Riley probably dropped his debit card (maybe when he was sliding his phone out of his pocket) and tried to lean down to reach it or even tried to descend the side of the river bank to find it. People that tall can walk and run incredibly quickly so it doesn't surprise me that he was out of shot so quickly. His legs look so long that each of his strides is twice that of a person a foot shorter. I think he could have been hurrying away from the police officer just because he was drunk and everyone avoids police when they know they're publicly intoxicated. If he thought he was headed toward his hotel because he got the name of the business near where he fell into the river confused with the name of the hotel on Google Maps like one news report suggested, then he probably thought he had a long way to go and so was jogging to get there sooner. If he's actually saying "park" in this clip he could have been talking to someone trying to describe where he was or trying to use a voice prompt for something like a text on his phone or even just mumbling to himself. I think phone records would help determine whether he was trying to speak to anyone at the time, and I think people may wanna verify whether he had a Tinder account as a reason to be meeting up with a stranger, just to quell any concerns about there being another person or car. Unfortunately if this was an attempted mugging or something and someone simply pushed him over the guard rail down the embankment or startled him by holding out a gun so that he stumbled backwards over the rail, I don't think there will be any conclusive signs of that in an autopsy. We are stuck with the way things are- no way to know exactly how aware Riley even was of his actions or his surroundings in such an inebriated state, and the tragic death of a kid who obviously had a lot going for him in life if only he had made it back to his hotel room that night. Very sad for everyone he was close to, and difficult for anyone following this story. Please watch out for your friends, take alcohol seriously, take intoxication seriously, have a plan for getting home laid out ahead of time before you go out, use a buddy system, and don't be afraid to ask people if they need help or even call 911 for people you see who appear to be struggling. For all we know, hitting his head when he fell down could have been a factor in Riley's demise. If any stranger at any point had intervened, things might have been different. We need to start remembering how to care about each other in this world.

This is So Sad. I want to know how many of the frat brothers were with him, that Not One could of left with Riley and there would of been a different outcome. Part the bars fault, part the frat brothers he was with. Still think he was slipped something. RIP Riley and Prayers for his parents, especially his Mom.

In no way is it the bars fault. They cut him off after one drink and offered him water after that. He was asked to leave because he did something to cause that. His friends were not asked to leave...only he was. Bars are businesses, not baby sitters. As tragic as this is, the ultimate fault lies with Riley. He was an adult. However, at least one of his friends should have left with him and helped him get back to the hotel. I think women are better at looking out for each other in those situations.

This is one of the only independent videos I have seen containing a law enforcement analysis containing FACTS. Theories, while not always "bad" or misleading persay aren't always helpful. We now live in a world where views & likes influence what some creators publish. TY Sir for your respect and the reminder that his family is dealing with an unimaginable tragedy! I'd like to see more videos discussing or supporting the idea to implement barriers or "guard rails" along the river that's being discussed. Hoping we see a Riley's law after this. I'm also greatful his family and loved one's are able to bring him home and lay him to rest. Rest easy Riley!

Given the evidence, the most logical story in my opinion is Riley was intoxicated and tripped running from an altercation (that he wasn’t involved in), he hit his head really hard on a concrete sign post, causing a mild head injury that rendered him dizzy on top of tipsy or drunk. He then slipped down the bank while trying to find his way back to where he was staying, slipped into the water and couldn’t get himself out. This is just what seems most real given everything we’ve seen and heard. May he rest in peace and his family find comfort during this most heartbreaking time.

This is the time when we remember that speculating gets you no closer to the truth.
    The evidence may be… inconclusive.
I do wonder how his card was found where it was found, with it appearing that he entered the river further down?
Wise people reserve judgment. Gullible and naive people believe assumptions. It is time to be compassionate and wise. How you treat someone reveals more about you than it does about them. I believe in God and I believe that HIS will is being done. I mourn with Riley’s friends and family. May this draw you all closer and may love heal this wound.
Whether this is an accident or not, RIP Riley Strain. I pray that the truth comes out and that something good can come out of this travesty. In Christ’s name, Amen.

He was drink some liquid, he needed to relieve himself, he was at a river, most guys do like me, we let it flow in to the water! He fell over and in to the water and it was cold. My thought from the beginning and still is. Huge impressive guy, you don’t mess with him even if he is drunk! Just a very sad accident.

Wouldn't climbing down that embankment have been scary to do while drunk? Did you see how the area looked where his credit card was found? You have to get through a lot of vegetation and trash to get right by the river.

Another thought - Sometimes, a body is found at the site of an industrial business, having been dumped there. So - was Riley's body found next to the bank or out farther? Does movement in a river transport a body close to the edge, near the bank of the river, of further out into the river? I'm asking this because of the distance, and considering the curving of the river, that Riley's body supposedly traveled.

While you can guesstimate how a body will travel down a river there's no concrete way to determine many factors are in play, bloating of body, current changing, animals interaction, trees an logs, etc.... his body would have easily ended up there. The kid was out of his mind and accidentally got into the river and drowned. Only ppl who should feel responsible are his pos friends and the pos ppl watched this kid messed up walking n didn't offer help... then all the idiots making false storys that someone hurt him n dumped him smfh... world we live in today's pathetic, may the poor kid rest in peace and ppl quit with the bs. He's on camera all the way to the river it's obvious what exactly happened.

@@187umkillah What could people do? The officer asked him how he was doing and he replied that he was good. Have you ever been to a city like New Orleans or New York? Unfortunately, you can’t help everyone who is under the influence. They could be dangerous and violent. This wasn’t a kid, he was a man who had too much to drink.
This was an unfortunate incident and the friends should have taken care of their classmate. However, a lot of people are being Monday and Tuesday morning quarterbacks. Some people might be indifferent, but others are inclined to place the blame on everyone. That’s not a reasonable or fair summation. There were quite a few factors.

This isn’t practical or logical. What about people who live in areas like NY city, especially on New Years Eve? What about people who are homeless? Why didn’t Riley ask for help? This was an unfortunate accident where we are thinking about what could’ve been done. However, that kind of thinking isn’t healthy. Based on your comment, alcohol consumption would have to be illegal or we will have to be heavily policed.

I think the sad part was several folks saying there was a homeless man who had Riley's shirt with the vomit on it. The fact that he claimed the shirt was found where it would not be possible.
His bank card found on the shore of the river, added to this concern that maybe he was robbed.
The fact that he was found with his shirt makes the first part untrue. So very, very sad. The final autopsy will clarify the cause and manner of death.
