Just my two cents, but adding flammable birch to the mix doesn’t give an honest review to how well the shavings work.

Brian, I agree, didn't think about that. I did it the way I make fire with it. My experience: the shavings work fine depending a lot on the type of wood: with or without a lot of resin. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe, Gijs
