It’s so funny to see certain cooking shows on tv or UA-cam. People doing the fancy cooking ....with stuff I’ve never heard of...
Nothing compares, or is as good as old fashioned cooking that has been passed down from generation to generation. Basic dishes are the best! Love your channel!

I love watching you cook, we have the same old style of cooking. I am 75 years old and learned to cook from my Russian Grandmother, Matilda, who has since passed on. I live in rural Wisconsin we have eight acres and live in our log cabin. My husband and I have been married for 55 years we loved to maintain a big garden all those years, but my loving husband was diagnosed with stage four Alzheimer’s Dementia two years ago and I am his caretaker. Life has changed but I love to cook all his favorite foods, he is not the same strong man I married he is now my two year old child. God is walking with us through these sad times and keeping me strong so I can continue to take care of my loved one as long as possible.

A huge thank you for this video. I've never been able to make a good meatloaf. The taste was wonderful. I took some to my parents today ( dad is 91 and mother is 86). She just texted me and me that my dad said it tasted just like his grandmothers meatloaf ( my great grandmother). What a fabulous compliment. Mrs. Lori you are truly the best.

Thank you again. I really appreciate what you two do. BTW, frying potatoes and cabbage and a bunch of other veggies was called "bubble and squeak" when I was a kid. My grandmother made it with leftovers. It's called bubble and squeak because it pops and crackles when you fry it and then flip it once it has a crust. i loved that dish as a kid. Had to be cooked in lard or bacon fat.

This is one of my husband's favorite dishes. He loves anything cabbage. I plan on getting at least 3 dishes from a head of cabbage for the two of us. Slaw is one, fried cabbage with peppers, onions, bacon and polish sausage is another and fried cabbage and potatoes is the 3rd. The Germans call this "gamese". I enjoy all your videos, Lori, you are a good teacher.

The way you did your meatloaf looks awesome. I got to try it . After 30 plus years being married, my husband left me for someone else last year. I didn't let it get me down. I prayed to God asking him to send me someone to me, cause I didn't want to be alone for the rest of my life. So this year on my birthday God answered my prayers. The way we met was like something out of a storybook. This new man in my life loves to cook. One of first things he fix was kinda like your cabbage and potatoes. But he used cabbage, squash and pepper; never ate anything fix like that before but it was very good. He also would put sausage in it at times. We have been trying different recipes with each other. I love watching you guys, keep up the good work. God bless you.

Hello, Miss Lori. I feel nostalgic every time I watch your videos. Reminds me of my family members who are long since gone, but they left an indelible mark on my life. My Mom is pictured on the left with my Dad. She was my step-Mom, but you’d never know it. She taught me that blood doesn’t matter when it comes to love. She was full of love, warmth and laughter! She was a Hatfield from West Virginia. Believe me, she was teased about that! I went to many a Hatfield reunion. Came from a line of good cooks. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. I took the time to learn from my Mom, and I’m so glad I did! I hope your family is learning from you. I’ve passed on that love of cooking and baking to my niece. I love traditions and family recipes! Thank you for sharing your cooking, your warmth and your life! I miss all those old times. Good times. Now I’m the old timer, and the cycle of life goes on. I too, want to leave that indelible print on someone else’s heart! You seem like such a sweet and kind lady, makes me think of my Mom. I just had to let you know. Thank you!

Miss Lori when you fry cabbage and potatoes together, it’s an Irish dish called bubble and squeak. It’s delicious.

I commented on this video a year ago, gonna comment again since you’re talking about a garden, my grandparents had a garden, I thought it was really huge, I thought their house was huge too, but when they had passed on so e homeless people went in, started a fire to keep warm and burned their home to the ground, now there is a chain link fence around their property and the whole property doesn’t look as big as I remembered the garden being, nor as big as I remember their house being. I’ve never had a vegetable garden, but when I lived in California I had two rose gardens and lots of flower beds, if I had a garden I could be happy planting just three things, Campari tomatoes, okra, (was about to say fried okra!😂) and yellow squash. Actually I’d be happy with a place just like yours even though I’ve spent the biggest part of my life in large cities.

Aloha ya'll! Island girl transplanted to VA but family roots on Mama's side from KY. Insomnia Faerie showed up with suitcase in hand & has decided to move in with me, so I started just wandering around YT. It is now 8 am...I've been watching your videos ALL NIGHT and I ain't done yet, lol. Both Hubs and I are in that Stay Home age bracket so I have plenty of time to sleep later in the day.
I can't wait to make the tamale pie (just have to order the masa first). I wanna make the chicken and stuffing, your biscuits, and a bunch of other yummies from your channel. I cried because you've brought back memories of my years side by side with my KY gramma in the kitchen...I'm 65 years old now but suddenly I was 8, 9, 10, 30, and missing her something awful. My Mama too.
Ok, enough waxing sentimental. I actually do have a very simple question in relation to THIS video. What was the other side dish on the plate? Looked like something with corn in it. I hope with all my heart that you, your family & friends, and your viewers and THEIR families & friends are all safe and healthy as we all try to get through these difficult times. Oh, and one last thing...you have my dream kitchen!!! Thanks for sharing!

I want to thank you for you doing this for all of us. But I also want to tell you a little about me. I had a stroke about 6 year ago that made it hard to read and under stand how to read a recipe or anything I loved reading books and everything. But I can,t anymore. I thank GOD for all this and things that I use to know how to do has gotten a lot better with God help and folks like you.
