Why Christian College Student Says She Was Forced to Drop Out

- Mara Louk, an aspiring singer-songwriter, says she was violently sexually assaulted by a fellow student at Visible Music College. Visible is a private Christian college in Memphis, Tennessee. Mara and her parents recorded a phone call with the school that they thought would be about the alleged assault. Instead, school officials scolded Mara for supposedly having had premarital sex with another student. “What is wrong with you people,” her father yelled on the call. “Shame on you!”
Props to her for not joining the dark side by giving up her self-respect. She deserves better.

As a Christian myself this disgusts me whether she had premarital sex or not that has nothing to do with the situation or change the fact of what happened to her is wrong
You should be disgusted with your religion just as much.
The problem is the fact that this is not a case of premarital sex …. It’s rape. Pre marital or marital sex is consent between two adults, but there is no consent in rape. There is a difference.
In that case the rapist should’ve been punished too for “premarital sex” if they want to use that pathetic excuse.

One of my friends attended a Christian institution. The pastors/ school administrators were head strong against abortion and would kick students out of the school if they ended up pregnant without being married or got an abortion. Despite those strict rules, when the main pastor's/administrator's daughter ended up pregnant (while attending the Christian university), her parents demanded that she get an abortion. She aborted the fetus or baby in secret and was NEVER removed from the school. Such hypocrites. The only reason word got out was because she was so traumatized by being pressured into getting an abortion by her Christian family that she spilled to one of her friends.

Why was she expelled for “premarital sex”, but he wasn’t when he also had sex??????🤔🤔. This case is going to be easy to win for her bc there’s extreme bias and sexism on the other side and the court is going to see that.
Because she is trying to get them in trouble even though they didn't do anything wrong
I think that somehow it came up that she had had premarital sex with her boyfriend, which has nothing to do with the rape incident. The school says they can't do anything about the rape incident since it happened off campus. But they can do something about her violating their moral code of conduct, so they did. All the school could probably do is kick the guy out of their school, but they might need proof of some sort. She hopefully went to the police after the rape and was able to be tested.
@NotKuroki Looks like a set-up to sue to school. No police report or investigation for the alleged off-campus rape? Same story as the the clock boy that intentionally brought a device that looked like a bomb to school, but was actually a clock in disguise, so the family could sue the school

As a Christian, it makes me angry how few Christians take any form of abuse seriously. I've been abused all my life. Despite my Dad pushing me over the sofa for trying to ask him a question, one Church elder said "It's six of one & half a dozen of the other"! Er no! And when I was indecently assualted by a member of his congregation, a Church pastor made out that if I reported the guy to the police, they wouldn't take me seriously! Thankfully, I'm now part of a healthy, supportive, Godly Church that takes my abuse seriously. If you call yourself a Christian or you're a Christian establishment, behave like Christians, not judgemental prudes perpetuating abuse! Jesus never appointed you to be police officers, He called you to be like Him & commanded us to show love to others. That means supporting people through things they should never have been put through in the first place. This is so crazy!!! This is why women don’t report being raped. I’m a survivor of a rape. You need support in that time after your attack you shouldn’t have to be worried about being treated like this. Sounds like nothing will be done to her attacker at that school.
This 😢
The only way you get justice is by reporting, though. Not reporting it prevents a trial from taking place, makes the victim (sadly) look less honest, and ultimately lets the monster off the hook. And it needs to be to real, actual authorities with the ability to enforce, not "college administrators" who will only act upon their own biases and to further their own agendas.
It's hard, I know, but as someone who used to deal in criminal law, I must, MUST encourage victims to report, even if they're afraid that people will be mean or will stop liking them. If you really mean it, you've gotta stand by it, or else the bad guys will keep on winning forever.

I don't get why she didn't go to the police at all, or if she did why they left it out of this video.
Yes, the cycle continues because of treatment like this. The attacker will probably be given a special award for his "pain and suffering." There is no guarantee of any kind of justice in the courts. If a survivor goes that way, they'd better hope the judge isn't having a bad day or doesn't have an issue with women or other marginalized groups. People wonder why she had to go to the news.
This woman is someone you can look up to. She’s a strong-willed fighter, who won’t take no for an answer. Her confidence is inspiring.

Call the police, go to the hospital. Do not call your Dean, or your priest or your librarian. Rape is a criminal offense. Treat it like that. Did she want him to get suspended or something. Jail... He needs to go to Jail.
She did report it to the Police, they told her there was not enough evidence to bring charges.
I suspect the problem may have been she waited 2 days before reporting it to the Police, and in the meantime probably washed away any remaining evidence. Either that or the Police found some inconsistencies in her story.
I am so proud of this woman for standing up for herself-and others. And her wonderful parents. The voice of experience is telling you that you can get accepted at a new school without their cooperation or recommendation, the new school can give you credits for your completed work, and you can graduate with top honors and there is not a thing your old jerk school can do to stop you. You have our prayers and best wishes for great success in overcoming this unfair treatment!!!
I could understand not going to the cops if they have a silver tongue and try to trick you or word play you while you feel uncomfortable. But if someone literally does the text book rape if FORCING against your will, how do you not call the police on the person that you met ONCE. This wasn’t some dude she had a friendly relationship before and was doing psychological abuse to keep her quiet. You just MET this guy. Call 911. Even if he isn’t put in cuffs, they will take you to get rape tested at the hospital and that pretty much is the lock in the key for their prison sentence.
Schools aren’t police stations. Rape is a crime that should be prosecuted by law enforcement. After that’s done and he is arrested and found guilty, THEN the school can expel a guilty person from studying there. Imagine they jump the gun and expel an innocent guy before the courts try him and he is found to be innocent? People must get a grip with reaching verdicts in the court of public opinion.

As someone who's a Christian and has gone to Christian private schools, I've experienced hypocrisy within some of these environments. At one school, the people there didn't care about bullying, didn't care about the victims, had a principle who used to be bully so he didn't punished bullies for their action because "they're just misunderstood', some of the teachers were bullies themselves like I had a band teacher that got impatient with me and called me a "retard". And because I got ostracized by almost everyone, I kept hoping I wouldn't wake up the next day to face it.
My parents transferred me into another private Christian school after realizing how bad my self esteem has went down from the previous one. This community was a lot nicer but the discipline was ridiculous, they also kept making new rules for everytime some idiot did something for example we couldn't bring water into class because some kid hid vodka in a water bottle once, you can't have any access to your phone, you have to put it in a yondr pouch. I felt a sense of sexism in that school as well because they tend to have these old school female and men conservative stereotype ideologies which made me incredibly uncomfortable. I had a hear one teacher say that if he caught his 10 year old son in a dress he would wip him. Most chapels consisted of old dudes talking about relationships and marriage and I just wanted to leave but I knew I would get in trouble if I did because chapels were treated like going to class.
I've graduate out there and I'm now in a Catholic college (it's like any other college but it was founded by Catholics and they have a church in the campus) I love how diverse it is in my college when it comes to LGBT, different religions, ethnicities and cultures that come here. It makes me very happy to have that freedom of being yourself without having to hide it in order to not get trouble. We also have sexual assault response team that's recently been added to help victims.
Moral of the story just because something is labeled Christian doesn't mean it truly is. Some people put on that face to look good in the public eye and then show their true colors behind closed doors. It's hypocrisy and Jesus has shown he's against it multiple times.
Thank god you weren’t Molested by a priest
Honeslty I think private Christian colleges don't need to exist, unless they offer a particular degree that major public schools don't have. @@brokenbutterfly3178 That’s why I said they would of looked into the situation.
Should*
@@SUAKAY How do you know they didn't look into it? Another article talked about her going to policy and after their investigation didn't have anything to press charges on. Might be a one sided story.
Good for her for going public 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I don't understand she went to school to complain, but didn't go to the police?
Glad she has her parents as her support system. ❤️ Hope everything goes well for her and her family.
She’s so strong and powerful. I hope that school goes bankrupt.
People should avoid that university . That school is messed up
If that is your take away from this then you lack some serious basic comprehension faculties...
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep Do elaborate
@@raisinbran3736 Self explanatory.
She didn't call the cops which tells you everything you need to know.
Yes I did :)
I’m not going to lie, the fact this is a “Christian” school is actually disgusting, embarrassing and downright sad
The school obviously views women as “property.” Ugh!
No they just don’t want to deal with the negativity
Similar to metoo movement, no one wants bad publicity. Best solution is avoid risk to reduce threat.
Here's what I think , when a report is filed nobody should be kicked off campus or forced to drop out until the court affirms whether the accusation was true or false.
If it's true the perpetrator should be kicked out and be put in prison
if false , the false accuser should be kicked out and put in prison

@@hellobruh4209 yeah I’m so lost as to what Dorothy is talking about. I agree tho the courts need to handle this stuff. Sexual assault is a crime and should be punished as one. I don’t understand why this campus would act like it’s their job to handle it. It’s the authorities job.
Yes I agree.
Only kick the accused out if it’s proved.
Innocent until proven guilty. I'm also curious if the man she accused of raping her was treated the same for "premarital sex".
Law and order SVU has talked about these same issues time after time, Collage/university administrators and campus police hardly do anything when someone reports being assaulted or raped. This victim blaming, boys will be boys, and he/she wanted it culture needs to go especially in schools
Which is why people should be encouraged to go to the actual police.
The show is good at resolving things. If only real life could be similar.
The college replied”they take serious care and support to their students.” Shame on them
I wonder how many others there were who believed this promise.
Father sounded like he was practicing for an audition on that phone call. Something seems fishy
Also the fact that she didn’t report this “rape” to the police also has me suspicious.
This is the true face of "Pro-Life"... the 'Life' part is meant to be ironic
Yup, and with Roe vs Wade about to be overturned conservatives want to be even more up in your business.
cope you baby killer!
She is giving Amber heard vibes😅😅
As a Christian I am appalled and disgusted with the college and people wonder why they reject Christianity it’s because of people like that
People reject Christianity because they reject Christ. They use crappy professing "Christians" as a scapegoat.
In the end of the day, doesn't matter if the school claims to be religious or not. It is still a business. Wish this young lady the best. This is unacceptable and disgusting. They tried to attack her for who she chose to sleep with before the incident? Excuse me?
It’s because she signed a contract with the school that outlawed it, therefore the school has every right to expel her for breaching their contract, if you listen to the call, the premarital sex contract breach the school is talking about wasn’t even the rape, so therefore she’s had consensual sex on campus and breached the contract, the school has every right to expel her but they should be doing more to investigate the incident
@@JohnSmith-cw9wl not their job, she should have filed a actual police report.
And people wonder why victims sometimes don't tell anyone that they were sexually assaulted. This, this right here🙄
Why would she report it to the college and not the police 🤦♂️
This is terrible. She deserves peace, so does the rest of the campus. It is terrible that she can't continue her school possibly if they don't release her credits.
She put herself in this position by having pre marital sex after signing a contract that disallows it. She broke the rules therefore breaking a contractual agreement. She's in the wrong here.
As for the accusations, she's obviously lying. Had a guy over to her place to "play board games". Lol. Sure thing. She simply hatched a plan to get back at the school and try to coerce them into having her way. She's a disgusting person.
that school doesn't deserve anything else besides being shut down it is absolutely gross and not worth anyone's time, I wish the young lady best of luck
There's gotta be more to this story. Feels like information is being left out.
I mean, if she was raped, she was raped. But of course we don’t know either way.
1000% agree.. and why hasn't she gone to the police, why hasn't the guy been charged, why would the school do this unless they know something we don't.
Yeah, this whole thing seems fishy....why was the police not involved? Why wasn't the male charged or punished? There's alot of holes in this girls story
@@danmurray7110 I did go to the police :)
Rape is a criminal offence and yet no mention of police involvement or anyone being taken into custody. This report doesn't add up.
I'm not a Christian myself, but I'm so upset for her. How terrible. At least her parents had her back. Don't let this change you, beautiful girl, find help to move on.
We as the church should hold that school accountable. That is sick!
Mind-bending!!! Completely grotesque. Ain't it funny how most "Christians" tend to not understand what forgiveness means and have outright disdain for the actual moral teachings of their God in the new testament?
What disdain?
ok but fr, can we talk about how pretty her voice is when she was singing?
It wasn't.

Heads up to her and her strong amazing dad! I hope they get justice ✋. Can we all please also acknowledge what an amazing voice this woman has? It was a short sequence, but I'd love to hear more of her music please👍 What a talented, strong woman. I hope she gets justice! And I hope she makes an amazing music career. I really wish that for her, not because of the news here, but only because of her beautiful voice! 👍
Wouldn't it be great if she started a UA-cam Channel, or another channel where she'd get paid (is there such a thing?) with her singing and get a Christian record company to sign her that way? Not because of what happened here, but just because of her talent. That would be lovely. I wish that for this young lady. I hope this wish reaches her some way 🌟.
This makes my blood boil! I hope she is able to get the justice she deserves. That school is disgusting!
Many colleges and universities do this. Women at University of Iowa have had to go to court to get the accused rapist moved from their dorms and classes. University authorities even deliberately chose to NOT report suspected rape to the city/county law enforcement. (It is a bad idea to have college/university own "police".)
This is disgusting. Sometimes I wonder if schools allow for off campus housing not just due to space constraints but to absolve themselves of blame when crimes do occur.
My guess is it would be the latter.
there's gotta be more to the story there's no way the school can just shake it off like that
Probably not allowed to have boys in the rooms by themselves so they think she had it coming.
This school needs to be shut down. Disgusting.
Don't close the school. investagate & fire the administration
closing the school, would punish the students that would have their academic lives messed with.
. EXPOSE THE RAPIST.& THOSE WHO PROTECTED HIM.
Praying for this young lady, good for her for speaking up!! May justice be served 🙏🏾
As a mom myself, I am angry for this young woman who was violated and her so called school did nothing to protect her, I hope and pray that she will have justice.
As a mother you should be able to spot a lying crazy eyes like her and read her like a book. I'm 100% with the school.

@@pandaman876 sorry I have not done my own research on this case yet but thank you for letting me know.
Was wondering what this had to do w Christian universities specifically…until they hit the moral contracts part. Totally a thing. Shamefully tone deaf on the school’s part.
Did she go to the police? If not what is she waiting for? Seems like that should have been the first step.
Yes she went to the Police, the refused to charge the guy due to lack of evidence.
I hope the courts figure out the right course of action. However, I will NEVER understand her point of view. Why in the world would you EVER only report this alleged "violent rape" to ONLY the school. Why she would NOT immediately call the police and pursue that course of action is beyond me.
And no, I'm not simply doubting her story or calling her a liar. I just DONT understand this. I mean I get it IF you reported it to both the Police & University. But just reporting it to 1 makes it seem very concerning in front of a panel of random people on a jury stand.
Thank you for speaking, Mara.
Nobody was charged in this situation? That seems very strange to me?
It appears she may not have gone to the police and filed a report on this. I can understand her hesitancy to do so but the guy probably gets a free pass if there is no DNA evidence.
@@danoc51 Another article talked about her going to police and after their investigation didn't have anything to press charges on. Might be a one sided story.
@@JonathanMatlock do you think it's possible the girl was lying and that's why the police didn't find anything? That's the only thing I can think of
@@pandaman876 or most likely there wasn’t any evidence to arrest him. Sexual assault is very hard to prove because one could argue that it was consensual. They can’t arrest anyone on a he said/she said scenario. Police being unable to arrest him doesn’t automatically mean she’s lying.
@@danoc51 I did file a report with the police and have a rape kit done. The thing about rape kits is that while there can be proof of DNA, that doesn't prove if the sex was consensual or rape, just that penetration did happen. This is why it's so hard for some to report because in the end, it can't be proved sadly.
Fake. If it was real she would have gone to the police
Actually she did, but after an investigation the police didn't find anything to press charges on, that's why the boy didn't get in trouble. 2:40 Why is the student accused of rape not charged with having “pre marital secks”? He literally got off without any charges and the girl is forced to be expelled. How is this fair?
Religion turns people into self-righteous morons. This is a strong young woman -- I wish her the best. Great parents.
the audacity and sociopathy of those stuck-ups is amazing. Having private relations between two consenting adults is a breach of contract of a college? that's ridiculous.
it wasnt consenting, the guy raped her. did you even watch the video.
This is just messed up
I agree with the school. Innocent until proven guilty. Also punish her for breaking the rules
Didn't know that playing board games with the opposite sex was against the rules.
Rape is not premarital sex.
I got one huge problem with this whole story: Apparently this happened in her own apartment - not on campus. Therefore, why didn’t she contact the police first and let them investigate? What did her college have to do with this? If she wanted the offender to get kicked out of college, then leave that for the police to deal with. By reporting it to the college first without any proper evidence, she set herself up. I can’t vouch for her.
Outrageous! I hope that girl gets some justice!
And why wasn't the student charged? You go to the school instead of the police? Something seems off here.
If it was off campus why does the school have anything to do with it ? Still I totally agree it’s very wrong they wanted to kick her out after she reached out
