It was always about money, the moment they added the deluxo it was clear that everything was about money, then the oppressor MK2 came along and fucked everything up. You could argue the oppressor MK1 was when they fucked everything up but I see that more as a fun vehicle that had other counters.

And they also upped the prices on basically everything in GTA online so that it's almost impossible to get enough money unless you waste a day away in front of a screen or pay a ridiculous price on fictional money. Single player on the other hand had so much potential to turn into something amazing but now it is reduced to a mediocre GTA at best.

I remember playing GTA Online with friends and we did a glitch that made the nightclub van COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE. Then some dude with a wormhole-sized bank account started throwing money at the orbital strike button, which was super funny as it did absolutely nothing to the van and us inside it, wasting around $3,500,000 in an effort to grief random people from his safehouse bunker.

Yup. I have 0 interest in buying the games all over again and then restarting from zero after hundreds of hours and who knows how much $ spent building characters/accounts. At least EA and MS titles transfer over, even if their gameplay isn't as good. Really sucks bc I loved RDR2 and it would look way better on my new gaming pc than anything my old xbox could output.
With the main writers for GTA gone from the company, GTA 6 will be the last game with their influence. They left during RDR2, but already had the story laid out for GTA 6 from what I remember reading? Hopefully the writing and satire is still brilliant but I don't know. The guy writing all the amazing radio station insanity is gone. 😭 Also, the fact that him and one of the Houser brothers left the company is maybe telling about the direction the company was heading. Sad, tragic times.
I only played it a bit for the Navy Revolver (It's beautiful) gameplay was halfway fun but wasn't worth it as there is no people playing and servers seem to small to be fun
As someone with 500 hours in red dead, yeah, it's pretty shit but it's better than gta in pub lobbies. The whole game feels cleaner, and being cowboys with friends with golden repeaters and shotguns is always good fun. But yeah, you're not wrong
Undead Nightmare 2 would have been a money printing game for Rockstar. But they ignored (the even now) constant demand for this game. Ignoring the demands of the mass majority of your customers isnt a smart move.
Great essay. The one thing I would ad is Rockstar's disgusting use of P2P networking for online. This was the other half of the problem regarding exploits, duping and hacks. It isn't like they couldn't afford proper servers with the cash they were making. P2P ruined For Honor as well.
The game is still very popular. It's not the same people playing it. People log on to it from time to time and yes, there's always that terminally online person who plays PvP.

They’re just making tough decisions here which all companies have to make, if something doesn’t align with them they’re allowed to change something, there’s no company that fans will 100% agree with everything they do. They put a lot of backing on their games and want to make great content which you can’t say for EA, they’re all about maximising profits.
I have never done a single microtransaction in GTA Online. But I got so sick of grinding that I got a mod menu (not to grief) but simple help run my businesses faster and help others make money by bypassing the heist setups and increasing the cuts to 250%. I have done this for a couple of years now and have not once been caught and I have helped a lot of people who were sick of grinding make millions of dollars within minutes.

Rockstar is going into a straight decline, it really shows in gta5 where they’re patching all of the fun non-harmful glitches and making useless dlc’s that don’t bring anything to the table.

Yea, but there willl always be a new wave of kids seeing the shiny new flying bike and flying car and getting mommy's credit card to buy shark cards to get it. So, the players that are leaving are the ones with a functioning brain that realise what scum rockstar is. But who replaces those players are the little kids that plague the game and spend money, or those that sunk too deep to even care to get out. My wake up call is when the released that F-16 that spawns in the military base for free and they released it at 6.5 milion and not even giving it anything new. So, i said fck it, got mod menu, got bilions, got everything i wanted, and helped the newer players get their cargo faster and use tp to help them deliver fast. I climbed the ladder myself, so i wanted to assist others. But i eventually quit, as i saw no more enjoyment from the game.

one of my old crew members would just say he was getting a few million randomly, like a few times a week. We thought he was doing a glitch or spawning money, but he was literally buying a $80 shark card every time. this was one man, continuously doing this for the few months we were gaming. it was insane lmfao... We kept telling him to just run bogdan, but he couldn't be bothered.
Personally i bought a trainer 13$. Dropped 1 billion $ on my gta online account and never got banned. I bought legitimately everything (every business, every vehicle and all the buldings I could (because there's a limit of buildings you can buy of a single type)) and I still have around 250 millions left. All of that for legit 13$. It's so dented to buy 80$ shark cards for in game money (especially with the fact that 80$ shark card doesn't give you that much). PS: I even gave dozens and even hundred of millions to my irl friends and some millions to randoms who were asking me

Rockstar has definitely changed into its worst form. I reported several serious bugs over the years in GTA Online; one was not being able to use the Recon Drone ability in the Cayo Perico Heist despite having the Terrorbyte and all. Reported it, provided proof, but they did NOTHING. And now it also begs the question of what will happen with the Vice City Nextgen Edition the modders are making. Will they take it down? Can they? Some say the fact that they're from Russia is playing into our hands, and I'd like to believe that.
Absolutely correct, as a old player of GTA, I only ever really cared about story mode, I gave online a try but wasn't interested, I wish they would pump out more story based games then continue with online

OpenIV and GTA V mods were banned because of GTA Online, to not allow cheats being made for it. But, now we don't have map/gameplay mods for singleplayer but there are still a lot of cheat mods. About banning GTA 3D era mods. Yeah, they're banned because of upcoming Defenitive edition. But now I believe they don't care and people could continue on their mods like GTA SA on Unreal Engine

Edit : it's already said in the video We, as players, failed. A DLC on Trevor was in development, but once Rockstar saw how much money the online mode made, they decided to scrap the DLC to focus solely on the online mode. I never bought any of the shark cards, but a lot of people actually did, and that's part of why they have gone this way. I believe we, as a community, are also responsible in some ways, for the turn Rockstar took, but that's just my opinion.

Mods are what gives games longevity and legacy alike. Some examples Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 5, City Skylines, Minecraft, Civilization 5, Civilization 6, Arma 3, etc.

duh, how do you think they able to develop game in 7 years? Single player game are expensive. People do forget how many game developer could release in 7 years, roughly 2-3 games. RDR2 was released in 2018, 6 years ago and we still don’t have any new games. In the meantime we already have 3 ac game (4 in nov), 2 Spiderman game, 2 horizon game, sekiro and elden ring. GTAO is the only solution they have to having stable income for 7 years without pouring many developers they had. Til this day they never deliver half-assed game.

The fact they charged full price for Red Dead Redemption 2 (WITH Red Dead Online), removed Red Dead Online and resold it as a standalone game (no refunds partial or otherwise were issued). Abandoned it after people re-bought it. and yet people still hold them high while slating other companies for far less tells me maybe people deserve what they get when they triple dip into GTA V on PS3, PS4 and the PS5 which is already backwards compatible with the PS4 so they can play with slightly higher contrast. We all know how that would go down if Sonic Team, Nintendo and affiliates or anyone not named Square Enix(who also did similar) did that.

I agree, RDRO is more chill NOW. But at release it was extremely sweaty and toxic. Lobbies were full of griefers, it got to the point where Rockstar had to put out an update where you can't see each other's blips unless you're literally right on top of each other. That was super effective because ever since then I've rarely seen griefers and everyone I bump into is super chill
Bro, as a new player I only go into closed/private lobbies. I just can't deal with the griefers sniping me from 234982340 miles away, or me somehow being murdered by enemy players in tanks downtown even though I'm in passive mode. I love multiplayer games, I have no friends so me being in a private/closed lobby is sooooooo boring, I wish I could be in a public lobby and interact with other people in a fun way. But noooo, if I go on a public lobby there will almost always be that one guy who drives all over the map solely to kill people and newbs. -__-

And they also upped the prices on basically everything in GTA online so that it's almost impossible to get enough money unless you waste a day away in front of a screen or pay a ridiculous price on fictional money. Single player on the other hand had so much potential to turn into something amazing but now it is reduced to a mediocre GTA at best.

I remember playing GTA Online with friends and we did a glitch that made the nightclub van COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE. Then some dude with a wormhole-sized bank account started throwing money at the orbital strike button, which was super funny as it did absolutely nothing to the van and us inside it, wasting around $3,500,000 in an effort to grief random people from his safehouse bunker.
If you don't get a kill then your orbital cannon is refunded and you're free to use it again right away. I've done that before 😅

They left during RDR2, but already had the story laid out for GTA 6 from what I remember reading? Hopefully the writing and satire is still brilliant but I don't know. I have never done a single microtransaction in GTA Online. But I got so sick of grinding that I got a mod menu (not to grief) but simple help run my businesses faster and help others make money by bypassing the heist setups and increasing the cuts to 250%. I have done this for a couple of years now and have not once been caught and I have helped a lot of people who were sick of grinding make millions of dollars within minutes.

I climbed the ladder myself, so i wanted to assist others. But i eventually quit, as i saw no more enjoyment from the game.

Personally i bought a trainer 13$. Dropped 1 billion $ on my gta online account and never got banned. I bought legitimately everything (every business, every vehicle and all the buldings I could (because there's a limit of buildings you can buy of a single type)) and I still have around 250 millions left.

Rockstar has definitely changed into its worst form. I reported several serious bugs over the years in GTA Online; one was not being able to use the Recon Drone ability in the Cayo Perico Heist despite having the Terrorbyte and all. Reported it, provided proof, but they did NOTHING. And now it also begs the question of what will happen with the Vice City Nextgen Edition the modders are making. Will they take it down? Can they? Some say the fact that they're from Russia is playing into our hands, and I'd like to believe that.

We, as players, failed. A DLC on Trevor was in development, but once Rockstar saw how much money the online mode made, they decided to scrap the DLC to focus solely on the online mode.
I never bought any of the shark cards, but a lot of people actually did, and that's part of why they have gone this way.
I believe we, as a community, are also responsible in some ways, for the turn Rockstar took, but that's just my opinion.

People do forget how many game developer could release in 7 years, roughly 2-3 games. RDR2 was released in 2018, 6 years ago and we still don’t have any new games. In the meantime we already have 3 ac game (4 in nov), 2 Spiderman game, 2 horizon game, sekiro and elden ring.
GTAO is the only solution they have to having stable income for 7 years without pouring many developers they had. Til this day they never deliver half-assed game.

Speaking of gta trilogy definitive edition don't forget that when they released definitive edition they removed original trilogy from stores like steam etc. Sure it's curently only available in their rockstar store, but nobody would buy it there and play it through rockstar launcher cuz launcher itself sucks.

The fact they charged full price for Red Dead Redemption 2 (WITH Red Dead Online), removed Red Dead Online and resold it as a standalone game (no refunds partial or otherwise were issued).

I agree, RDRO is more chill NOW. But at release it was extremely sweaty and toxic. Lobbies were full of griefers, it got to the point where Rockstar had to put out an update where you can't see each other's blips unless you're literally right on top of each other. That was super effective because ever since then I've rarely seen griefers and everyone I bump into is super chill

Bro, as a new player I only go into closed/private lobbies. I just can't deal with the griefers sniping me from 234982340 miles away, or me somehow being murdered by enemy players in tanks downtown even though I'm in passive mode. I love multiplayer games, I have no friends so me being in a private/closed lobby is sooooooo boring, I wish I could be in a public lobby and interact with other people in a fun way. But noooo, if I go on a public lobby there will almost always be that one guy who drives all over the map solely to kill people and newbs. -__-
