Thanks a lot for watching and safe journeys!
I was just 5 when my dad was transferred to Kalimpong, so I don't remember much. But remember my first school, St Joseph's convent.
Darjeeling and Kalimpong will always be my happy nostalgia
Darjeeling and kalimpong the entire region is awesome and beautiful my mom born in siliguri so i know the entire place now living in delhi for a long time miss those place.
Hi Gabriel, that was fascinating and they allowed you to come in and look around. It was wonderful, a location that the Dali Lama visited made the visit worthwhile. Hopefully, you left a donation for the tour and visit. There's a little-known film called Little Budda which tells the story of how the Dali Lama is chosen and how they know the Dali Lama has been reincarnated. Both the Hindu and Buddhist religions believe in reincarnation which is one of the most interesting beliefs I find in these two religions.
Hi Wilfredo, are you also a digital nomad like Gabriel? Do you like visiting india or is it not for you?
Both hinduism and buddism had stared in india
These past 2-3 weeks of videos from Bangladesh and India have really resparked my traveller self from some kind of hibernation. This kind of travel is when I feel the most alive and I'm aiming to restart during this year. Travelling outside your usual surroundings and culture really hits different.
I agree. I enjoy all of his videos, but the subcontinent ones really inspire me the most!
Thanks Gabriel for sharing a bit of my morning together. I travelled India back before you were on the Planet, just a month after Indira Gandhis assassination (Nov.1984), it truly was a challenging & memorable time to arrive in country as the Golden Temple in Amristar, Punjab was stormed by the Indian army.
My dearest friend and host Ramesh's family (Hindu) brought Sihks neighbors into their Delhi home to protect them from the rioting taking place throughout the city at the time. I travelled extensively around the country for nearly a year, even spent 2 months in Gulmarg, Kashmir skiing a glacier on the Pakistan front, recouping my sore mustles upon a House boat on Dahl lake in Shrinagar before returning to New Delhi to depart for new adventures in the Sinai Peninsula nd eventually back to America.
Awesome adventures. I was twelve in 1984. I didn't hear about the Indira Gandhi assassination at the time but remember Reagan's reelection that same month. I haven't been to Amritsar yet but visited Srinigar: www.youtube.com/@gabejedmo/search?query=Kashmir
Diversity of India for thousands of years.
One of your best videos.
I am glad your sandals are still holding.
You know you're addicted to Gabe's videos when you check every few hours to see if he's uploaded a new video!
I can relate with this statement
I can relate especially when he's in this part of the world. He does such a good job in south asia.
Very polite and helpful people there!!! very interesting video, so hospitable monk!! i particularly enjoyed the colors, so vivid and joyful!!! and great music too Gabe✌👍💖✨
My Condolences to the people of Turkey. Earthquake ruined so many
Glad you are going to Sikkim - the state in India that grows & allows Organic foods only. And it is one of the most clean state in India!
So cool seeing the Buddhist and Hindu temples!!!
Let me watch and enjoy the life of India. God bless you.
Fun fact: I used to always recommend Jacob's Creek Shiraz to my tables when I worked at an Indian restaurant in Northfield, MN... that last shot just hit me with a ton of nostalgia, so random
Ha, cool. I don't know if I'd had it before but it was tasty.
Upload the next video Gabe!
Just posted it: ua-cam.com/video/9WE7BUfdIOs/v-deo.html
Gabriel,
I supported the Tibetans fighting the Chinese for many years, beginning in the 1950s - 70s.
as an aviator, ,many trips, carrying the Tibetans to Fort Carson, Colorado for intensive training.
Later, after training carrying them back and air dropping them into Tibet to fight with the Chinese for their independence. I am extremely sad to say we failed.
i noticed that too!
Most important is, you tried.
Beautiful and fascinating! When a monk tells you to follow, you follow!
By accidentally meeting the monk you ended up in one of the most interesting stops of the day. Less rigid travel plans often lead to the best surprises. I'm always nervous about eating in less tourist-ed towns - hope you'll share more about your meal choices, locations, and menus.
You’re without a doubt one of the most authentic travel vloggers out there. Keep doing what your doing bro. Been watching you for a few years now, and you’re the real deal. Really admire your level of commitment to traveling. ✌️
welcome back to India
Amazing episode. Random acts of kindness makes the most epic travel content. Love and respect from Norway ♥️
You are right, Gabriel, the script of most Buddhist teachings is in Tibetan ( The Tibetan script is a writing system of Indic origin used to write certain Tibetic languages, including Tibetan, Dzongkha, Sikkimese, Ladakhi, Jirel and Balti.) which was adapted fr Sanskrit script ( Devnagari)...
Thank you for the tour Gabriel, I am enjoying the series. Respect to you and all in 🇮🇳 from 🇬🇧
You can feel the adventures that this region holds.
Tibet was part of Indian civilization and culture for thousands of years. Kailash mountain and Mansarovar lake in Tibet are where Shiva and many other great indian beings stored their wisdom and knowledge in the form of energy. these are most spiritual places in the world while visiting them people start bursting with tears of ecstasy.
Always surprised to see how friendly & open minded Tibetan monks are in opening & showing their temples & shrines, especially towards foreigners. ..Compassion at its best 😇
The places you bring us to constantly amazes me! I also notice how, in India and Bangladesh, people are always outside interacting and involved in community. The temples were unbelievable! Namaste
Another great video, Gabe. It's wonderful being in less touristy places. Did you ever go to Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh? There are Tibetan refugees there too and it is a beautiful hill station with lots of small scale charm. Apparently it still only has a population of about 7000, while Darjeeling, Simla and other hill stations have grown massively.
Vaguely heard of it but no, never went there.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Well, if you're ever in that part of the Himalayas again, give it a look.
Winter, historically, is the best time for trekking for Himalaya views. In 1976 the visibility was so different.
Amazing Monastery!
AMAZING!!! You are venturing to go where no vlogger has gone before! Dhanya-freaking-vad!!!!
Thanks for another great video! Beloved India....the heart keeps opening.
Wow, this has to be one of your best videos Gabe, thanks for posting!
Again, one of your best uploads. Thanks, man!
loved the scenes in the two temples!! thanks for another great video!1
Thank you Gabriel. I especially enjoyed the unexpected tour you were gifted in the Buddhist Monastery.
Gabe your vids have been so entertaining lately. Since Japan you've been going hard filming and editing I want to say I appreciate the effort you've got a viewer for life here.
Wowowwowowowowow! Amazing city and so interesting to see the Buddhist temple as well as the HIndu one. Loved this video so much. So colourful. Thank you Gabe x
Wow, that’s such a cool and really personal tour.
Wow…another fantastic video. You’re the best Gabriel.
How fortunate you are to have been there. Just incredible the friendliness of these people
You are doing great Gabriel! Thanks
I always enjoy your videos so much, they are true documentation of the world at a snapshot in time. Also feels like virtual reality!
Monestary tour-fortune smiled on you that day. Thanks for sharing this
I like the simplicity and quietness up there in the mountains.
Great vlog Gabriel, thanks for sharing 🤗
Namaste would be the appropriate term in the Darjeeling hills including Sikkim as you are in a Nepali town just as you would say Namaste in Nepal. Namoskar would be more appropriate n Kolkata or in the plains of West Bengal but said to a Bengali person. if you meet a Nepali in the plains you're better off saying Namaste. If I’m not mistaken you did greet the Tibetan people on your trek in Nepal with Tashi delek which you could have used when you were in the monastery. No biggie but If you happen to visit a monastery in sikkim you now know what to say.
Right on, good to know.
I didn't know you came to my town. Thanks for coming hope you loved it
Wow! How fortunate you were to get a personal tour of the Tibetan monastery by one of the monks no less. Another great video Gabriel. Well done!
So nice, particularly the tour of the Buddhist museum and temple. The background music was perfection.
Wow! The history 😎 thank you Gabriel! 😊☀️❤️
What an amazing experience and to have it all to yourself, wow!
This place that I have never heard of is absolutely amazing.
The timing meeting that monk was meant to be.
As always your videos are excellent and very informative.
I will have to visit this place before I get too old.
It looks so peaceful and tranquil.
I'm from West Bengal. Its good to see you have a good time.
The place Kalimpong is so beautiful and pleasant.
What an absolute gem! You really got lucky! It was amazing Thank you 🙏🏼
Sabrina 🇫🇷🇬🇧
5:00 Yes that is Tibetan writing. Nepali script is same as the Hindi, but they are 2 separate language. Just writing script same (Hindi & Nepali) - however, they're *2 different language* ..
Kalimpong looks quite livable and clean. Wonderful sharing. Thank you!
great coverage of the city, never been here, but feel i know the city of kalimpong now
Thanks Gabriel for sharing the monastery visit. I missed it last time when I was in Kalimpong.
Gabe this was another interesting video Thank you so much
Love how intrepidly you venture.
The museum wall art is gorgeous, and the colours are perfect. I would wear the prints.
Thankyou, we all feel we are walking with you as you take us to places we only dream of visiting. We love your history lessons on places, more, more, more.
We must also prayer for Turkey and Syria, such sad loss.
Enjoy your adventures.
Fabulous temples! What an incredible part of the world. Big heart resonance 💚💚💚
The only thing I enjoy more than you finishing off your videos with a cold beer, is finishing off some good ol Aussie Shiraz! great video!!!
Looks peaceful there!
Love the monastery and library. ❤
Awesome tour!
Gabriel you seem very lucky spiritually, getting a personal tour from a monk and then most likely the Hindu temple was being visited by a Hindu monk of some prominence, stay blessed man, happy travels and I've subscribed to your content now.
Gabi Wonderful mate.. I had not been to North India TOP of India...
thank you Gabriel, bcoz of you i see the world my friend ♥️🇵🇭👍
Loving these videos .
Thank you for your wonderful vlogs 😊
Wow, I don’t know much about Tibetan Buddhism, but I am familiar with Tomo Geshe Rinpoche, who you mention’s bed of three successive incarnations in the museum. He was a very advanced master and was all about the Buddha Maitreya the Buddha to come. Check out Lama Govinda’s memoir “The Way of the White Clouds,,“ he was a direct disciple of Tomo Geshe in the early thirties, and was one of the very first westerners to enter Tibet.
Unique experience and unforgettable ✨️ the Buddhist Temple absolutely amazing 👏 😍
Thank you for showing us Brother! Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for producing such a fascinating video! God bless that monk who took you around. At first I was afraid for you, thinking that he might lock you into one of the rooms he was taking you to. But I need not have worried, for he opened the temple for you and ushered you into a beautiful and colorful world!
I hope you said that in jest.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing monastery thank you🙏 ❤ 💕 😊
Looking good man! My whole world just changed unfortunately, but that means I'm free to travel again here soon... bitter sweet.... Catch you out there one day maybe.... love the views man!
all i can say is wow!!
Great to see you met your love
Amazing video 👍Well done 👏😁Thanks for sharing 😁✌
Awesome Vlog. Watching from near Kalimpong. ❤️
I love it when you go into the Himalayas
Amazing Tibetan museum.😲👍😊
Always very very good and very interesting 🙂🙂👍
Gabriel the monetary was beautiful! That you got a private tour was amazing. So very nice of him to do that. Were you able to donate anything? Do they even accept donations?
*Monastery. Yes, they do accept donations. There are a lot of expenses with upkeep of such beautiful places of worship & learning.
Nice one Gabe 👍👍
Great trek, enjoyed this immensely. Having Indian food today, that is as close as Ill get to India in the near future.....
Zithers water pipe along the roadway was worth a discussion
A true traveler ❤️❤️
Nice tour of monastery.
I started watching your vlog from Bangladesh. This one is absolutely the best.
17:40 Gabe with his legendary timing
Confession: I had that arranged ahead of time. 😛
Livin la vida loca
Hello Gabriel !
So much like your video 💗
Very interesting video
Cool tour from the monk
GABRIEL THIS TIME THE MONK HELPED YOU FIND WHERE THE GOLD WAS. THIS WAS A BIG SURPRISE, THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH US.
Gaby Hope you enjoying your stay in offbeat but one of the most beautiful places of india.
Wow what a fantastic journey and life your living congratulations
Gabriel you are visiting these places at the wrong time of the year. The haze as you call it is cloud cover as it's still cold there. So unfortunately yes you will have the haze this time of year .
I was planning to come here last spring but changed plans because the weather was rainy. Now it's hazy. Hopefully I'll have a lucky clear day. Otherwise I'll see the mountains another time.
@Gabriel Traveler there is a beautiful view of the ranges on a clear day. If you pop into the tourists shops you will see a postcards of the ranges.
Beautiful temples! I’m sad that you still can’t experience the sight of Everest yet. Hopefully tomorrow 😊
