      @@WelcomePainthe things that helped me were regular exercise and if I’m in the middle of a really bad episode, to do something fully immersive to distract my brain, so I got myself a book of word puzzles. TV and reading were too passive and all I could think about was my breathing. So I had to do something that would take my attention away from it and involve my brain! I also learned to memorize all 50 states in alphabetical order, sometimes repeating those in my head helps

    Thank you a lot Nick! Your videos and Albert ellis' book truly changed my life and I feel fully recovered from somatic ocd. Havent had any cycles, rumination or anxiety for more than a month now, since I have read the book and I am still working every day towards disputing my irrational beliefs. And I do get hyperaware of my breathing/blinking/swallowing from time to time, but it does not bother me at all as I am simply not afraid anymore of noticing it forever. Even if I did notice my sensations forever, of course it would be pretty annoying and tough, but definitely not the end of the world. And I can even prove that to myself as I was stuck for about a year and I still led a successful and all in all enjoyable life while being constantly aware of blinking. So it was pretty inconvenient, but never terrible.
    Thank you so much for your help. Every ocd sufferer should know about this channel. Without this channel, I probably would have never realised what drives somatic ocd, what fear of fear means and what recovery even means.

      I’ve had this for a month and have been trying to accept it and live my life but I wake up everyday feeling the same. I do have reassurance compulsions that keep me stuck but I’ve reduced those. I just don’t get why it’s so stuck if it’s newer

    • @shinynoob4890
      @shinynoob4890 2 роки тому +1

      @@NS-wb7vu So first of all, you probably mean with acceptance telling yourself "I accept it! i accept it! Now please, for the love of god, go away!!". Thats not what acceptance means. Its the realisation that "even if it would continue this way forever, which is unlikely if I bring the core fear down,I could live with it and still lead a fairly enjoyable existence." You have only been suffering for a month, thats why its difficult to see this for you. I had this for a year and I still did everything completely normally. I still went to school and had great grades, I still had fun with friends and I still went to parties, while thinking about blinking basically 24/7.
      After a while I got used to it, however I was still afraid and thought my life was ruined. Then I read Albert ellis' "How to stubbornly refuse to make yourself miserable" and brought down my core fear of being stuck forever. Now Im not afraid anymore of noticing my blinking/swallowing/breathing as Im not afraid any more of being stuck forever. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :)
      Just let me tell you that you will recover if you put in the work, that it isnt as bad as you think it is and that I know EXACTLY what you are going through.

      @NS-wb7vu 2 роки тому

      @@shinynoob4890 no I think I am truly accepting I don’t entertain thoughts about it nearly as much and a lot of the fear has come down I’m just inpatient about it and get concerned it won’t go which then does lead to rumination and compulsions

    • @shinynoob4890
      @shinynoob4890 2 роки тому

      @@NS-wb7vu "and get concerned it wont go" thats exactly the point bro. That does not mean that you accept the possibility of it never going away. Your mindset should be "Even if it never went away, I could still live a happy life. My life would not be ruined". So there is nothing that you need to be concerned about. Even if it never went away, you could still live a happy life and that is why you need to realise. That needs a lot of time.

    Thank you so much for these incredible explanations on sensorimotor. It feels like the common literature online, especially those promoting exposure (often through mindfulness), are often misleading. This is unintentional , but I think the lack of research, coupled with the fact articles have been written by people who have never experienced this first hand cause major confusion. I think exposure and habituation should be taken out of the conversation entirely when talking about sensorimotor

I’ve finally figured out what it is when doing research and now I just want to find relief

    Hello Nick! Thank you so much for sharing this information! I had a question, apart from the big five sensorimotor OCD which require no exposure, what can I do for this sensation ('tingling sensation') across my forehead, and sometimes different parts of my head, which just won't go away no matter how hard I try. I seem to be too hyper aware about it. I recently figured it was this sensorimotor OCD. So what should I do? Just wear the sensation and hope this doesn't go away (like you said) for recovering from this? Or is there another approach? I await your reply, sir. Thank you!
    Also you are right, the thing about OCD is that it is SUPER MANIPULATIVE, like it crawls from one thing to another one form to another, like there is no telling what's what. It can easily blind you and fool you and trick you right into it's jaws.

    I was hyperaware of my bladder and kinda cured myself by exposure and acceptance back in 2017 I would say it is gone like 80-90% most of the time I know it can't hurt me anymore.
    But 2 weeks ago I got covid and got pretty bad anxiety and sleepless nights even tho I had a mild case with only fever and sore throat 1 day I noticed that I am noticing my breath and I had that thought "holy shit I hope I don't become obsessed with my breath like I did with my bladder"
    And guess what now I have breathing hyperawareness since about 5 days.
    But I am optimistic since I know the key ways out and I have to say the tipps in this video is 100% what got my bladder back under control.
    Leaving the house even with panic attacks thinking I am about to piss myself any given moment and then accepting that this is hard but I can do it.
    So to everyone it is not fair, it is hard and you have some time of suffering ahead but there is a way to a pretty much normal live back out there.
    There are ppl who get used to being crippled and paralyzed so you can get used to noticing your breath swalking or whatever

    • @realityisbest8963
      @realityisbest8963 Рік тому

      Hey, thank you for sharing. How is your recovery going with the hyperawareness of the bladder?
      I have the same issue since childhood, caused by a trauma that I'm putting behind me.
      I'm currently trying to figure out how to stop hyperfocusing on my bladder when it is full and when I can't go pee because I'm in a meeting or something.
      Like.... what is "healthy noticing" and what isn't?
      Normal people say they notice and can't stop thinking about their bladder when it is full, too.
      It is normal to notice a full bladder so they don't wet themselves, and avoid public humiliation (possible core fear).
      So I don't know what is normal?
      Does this require ERP to recover?
      How are you recovering from this? 🤔
      Kindest regards.

      @@realityisbest8963 I can give you my 2 cents I dunno if that is the right thing to do but it worked for me.
      In the beginning I went full ocd and wrote down how often and how much I had to urinated. Which was good in the beginning because I figured out how does it feel when my bladder is really full and I started to be able to distinguishe the normal bladder feel to the bladder full feeling but in the long run it keeps you in a control compulsion.
      I always wanted to go only when my bladder is really full and I had a stronge urge to urinate which isn't normal most ppl empty their bladders when they are around 65% full according to a study I once read.
      Then I just went when I had the feel I need to even when it meant to empty my bladder when it isn't near max capicity like a normal In the beginning it was hard and I was afraid and had many panic attacks but in the long run the anxiety got less and less and I was getting more comfortable.
      To the noticing question I usually feel the need to go when my bladder is getting half full then when I can't go at that time the feeling goes away for a short time and returns when maximum capicty is near then it is a constant feel getting worse and worse almost painfully. (notice for example moving and vibrations can intensify the bladder sensation so for example when you are walking you might feel your bladder earlier then when lying down in bed)
      Your problem def, is you overthink to much try practicing on a day off drink much water and hold out till you really have the urge to go and learn how to distinguish that feeling from the constan t bladder sensation feeling.
      You will notice a difference I promise if you bladder is really full and you need to go hard it is almost painfull and you don't need to think do I have to go or not because boy you know you have to go.
      Then start going when you feel like it like a normal person.
      If you go more frequently and your bladder isn't really full who cares?
      Overthinking and overcontrolling is what drives the anxiety cycle and keeps the ocd strong.
