I was an exchange student in Italy when I was in highschool. The family I stayed with definetly ate tons of pizza and pasta EVERYDAY yet they were skinny. Because they don't overeat and also they do walk almost everywhere and very fast.

I respectfully disagree. Italians eat pasta and pizza very often. They keep a balanced weight because of the good quality of the ingredients those pasta and pizza are prepared with.

Hi all, I’m Italian and I think that eating and exercising to your heart’s content and listening to your body’s needs is the key to stay healthy and happy. Moreover, being skinny isn’t equal to being healthy. Given this, I try to eat balanced meals, move my body and never say no to my food desires for reasons concerned with diet culture.
Let’s promote a healthy relationship with food!

I lived in Italy for 8 years and used to eat at the student's refectory during my university studies. Everybody had pasta or rice for primo, followed by meat and vegetables to end with fruit or a yoghurt. That's what we had every day for lunch. Every day. And hardly anybody was overweight.
We walked a lot though and the portions weren't huge.

I'm Italia and my family, and my friends, we eat pasta twice in a week, pizza twice in one month, the otherday we eat a lot of vegetables, fishes, legums, bread, fruits, a littlebit of meat, twice a week chicken, a little sweety every day, but for breakfast, all italian people eat caffè and milk with 3 or 4 biscuits, its enough. Breakfast total is in sunday at bar.

When I went to Italy, all I saw people eating were pastries for breakfast, and than for the rest of the day, pasta and pizza and gelato. I asked some my Italian friend’s what else they eat and they literally just said pasta and pizza. I was there for four weeks by this point so I was sick of all those foods, so I was desperate for another answer but they did not give me one…lol

Exactly, maybe 30 years ago good looking thin Italians for the most part, but then came larger supermarkets popping up everywhere in Italy, In the 70's and 80's I remember only going to very small markets in italy to get healthy food, mostly produce, fish, lean meats, and less choice of all the crap that's creeping in Italian supermarkets/grocery stores today which is unfortunate. In 1996, "Big American pizza" frozen pizza was introduced into the Italian market, when I saw that, I thought "oh no they're copying the Americans", it's too bad but still to this day they haven't reached American F A T N E S S yet.

Baaaaaaahhh.... Pasta, gnocchi or rice (better if risotto) every lunch, with vegetables. And meet or fish or eggs, or also beans or similar for dinner, also with vegetables. Pizza once a week, pastry for breakfast only in special occasion. Personally, i don't use tondo breakfast, only espresso, and i don't eat snack during the day, but this is not so common
