Lisbon tram drivers' view on 'new' route 24 - full trip in HD

- Lisbon tram route 24E (the E stands for Eléctrico or electric) had been closed 24 years ago as the once extensive tram network had gradually been shut down. Many cities lost trams altogether while Lisbon was far-sighted enough to keep a viable network of this efficient and environmentally-friendly form of transport running on the remaining five routes. Route 24 was first opened in 1905 and re-opened in April 2018; this full trip from Campolide to Praça Luís De Camões (where it connects with route 28) was filmed on a sunny afternoon in mid-March 2019. The route also connects with the funicular Ascensor da Glória. This "new" sixth route isn't mentioned much in the guide books so you'll probably have no problem in getting a seat! Those who watch should be aware these are not tourism-oriented, they're used by regular commuters. This route in particular was easily re-opened because the tracks were never removed, and with a growing focus from the part of City Hall to get as few cars into the city as possible, they've invested in increasing the frequency and span of public transportation. As someone who was born and raised in Lisbon and knows how bad parking, noise and pollution can become, I greatly approve of decisions like this one of bringing back the old routes.

The description is correct. The E in 24E stands for "electrico" . And electrico is literally the word which describes the property of running on electric power in Portuguese (if it's a male gendered object, if it was female it would be electrica). These trams are known here as "carros electricos" (electric cars) exactly because they're electrial, i.e., they run on electricity.
