The tight curves are indeed one of the main reasons why these old trams are still active in Lisbon. Several of the older boroughs are better served by trams than by modern buses because the tracks guide the car through passages which sometimes leave mere inches between the car and the buildings. There is no need for a tram driver to doubt or manoeuvre their way through those situations, the tracks do pretty much all of that work on their own. The 28E route shows several of these situations, it goes through older parts of the city which were planned long ago for mere pedestrians and the occasional cart and mule combination.
There are plenty of warnings inside the trams asking people to NOT stick their heads and arms out of the windows because it can become quite dangerous.

Pena que no Brasil acabaram com quase todas as linhas de bonde (elétrico).
Nos anos 50 a rede de elétricos era muito maior que a atual, muitas estradas que tinham elétricos deixaram de passar.
Não é o eléctrico que é empecilho, mas o trânsito e o mau estacionamento....

O asfalto nas cidades portuguesas está muito ruim, assim como a segurança piora a cada dia.
Não é mais o Portugal que visitava há 10 anos atrás.
